Heath Ledger made his mark on the world with his role as the Joker in The Dark Knight—so much so that it landed him a posthumous Oscar, something that's only happened eight times in the history of the show. The actor tragically passed away in January 2008 from a drug overdose, just a few months before The Dark Knight was released in July of that year. Despite his passing, however, his role in the film immediately put his name in the ring for an Academy Award nod. Low and behold, he ended up winning Best Supporting Actor for his work at the 2009 Oscars, where his grieving family—including his mother, Sally Bell, his father, Kim Ledger, and sister, Kate—took to...

After a near-fatal car accident left him nursing a crippling spinal injury, few would have predicted that Vinny “The Pazmanian Devil” Pazienza would walk again let alone climb into the ring. Low and behold though, 13 months after that brush with death, Pazienza returned and indeed defeated Wbc World Jr. Middleweight Champion Luis Santana in what is widely considered to be one of the best comeback stories in boxing history.
Open Road Films has now brought that inspired underdog story to the masses in the form of Bleed For This, a starry boxing drama that has Miles Teller don the gloves as The Pazmanian Devil, whose sheer will and unflappable determination makes this very risky decision all the more compelling to watch on screen.
Pazienza knows no other way to be, and so elicits the help of his trainer, Kevin Rooney (portrayed by an almost unrecognizable Aaron Eckhart), to help keep...

With each year that passes, Cannes Film Festival unearths a movie that is divisive to its core, attracting knee-jerk reviews that range from rapturous applause to scathing negativity. Personal Shopper was one such film. Though we found the Olivier Assayas-directed thriller to be largely entertaining and inventive – you’ll find reviews from both Cannes and Tiff in the archives – there are those who pigeonholed Assayas’ paranormal pic early on for breaking course from genre conventions, among other criticisms.
But c’est la vie; in anticipation of the movie’s theatrical release early next year, IFC Films has conjured up a spooky new trailer in which Kristen Stewart’s lead, Maureen, is haunted by a supernatural force that she believes could be her late brother. You see, while housed up in Paris, before his passing Maureen and her sibling made a pact that whomever died first would attempt to make...

During those formative months when it was confirmed that, after Disney had acquired Lucasfilm and its prestigious IP, a new wave of Star Wars movies were inbound, Harrison Ford was notoriously vague about his potential involvement in the studio’s franchise overhaul.
Low and behold, Ford reprised his iconic role for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and many were even pleasantly surprised about the amount of screentime afforded to one Han Solo. But will it be the last time we see Ford’s fast-talking smuggler on screen? Or can we expect him to appear in Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII. Production setbacks on recession drama Get a Job coupled with the recently-released maiden trailer for Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates has meant that movie fans have stumbled on a double helping of trailers featuring Anna Kendrick in the past week or so, and Focus Features has made it three for three by debuting our first look at the actress’ hitman comedy, Mr. Right.
Starring opposite Sam Rockwell for the light-hearted feature, the Pitch Perfect star plays Martha, a young woman out of luck and out of love who begins to question whether she’ll ever cross paths with Mr Right. Low and behold, Rockwell’s smooth-talking assassin walks into her life, but after bumping off a nameless hitman on their first date, his character of Francis is left dealing with a bounty on his head, effectively drawing in Kendrick’s hopeless romantic in the process.

Remember the last time Jackie Chan played a Hong Kong detective on screen only to cross paths with a bumbling American idiot? It was the core dynamic that catapulted Brett Ratner’s 1998 action-comedy Rush Hour to a respectable box office haul, two sequels, and even a TV show over at CBS – one which doesn’t involve Chan nor his fast-talking co-star Chris Tucker.
But no matter, for Jackie Chan is portraying a very similar character in Renny Harlin’s Skiptrace, with Johnny Knoxville assuming the role of brash American gambler, Connor Watts. As the director behind both Die Hard 2 and Cliffhanger, Harlin has displayed a deft eye for action cinema throughout the years – barring the blemishes of Deep Blue Sea – though after the release of today’s international trailer, it’s difficult to imagine the filmmaker’s China-set adventure finding much of an audience – particularly in the west.

It’s no secret that Marvel and Netflix danced around the decision to order a sophomore season of Jessica Jones, perhaps in fear that it would clash with the former’s plans for the planned Defenders universe. Netflix is on the verge of opening up the case of one Steven Avery with Making a Murderer, a brand new documentary series that will debut on the streaming platform on December 18.
Bearing the evocative tagline “the truth will haunt you,” today’s teaser trailer tees up the criminal case of Avery, who was convicted of a rape case leading him to spend the next 18 years behind bars. As new information came to light, however, allegations of police and prosecutorial misconduct began rearing their head, not to mention coercion between leading witnesses that deemed Avery guilty of the heinous act.
Low and behold, after almost two decades spent in prison, he was exonerated based on DNA evidence, only to become embroiled in a murder investigation – one which he emerged as the lead suspect – a mere two years after his release.

Low and behold, Tarantino returned at the helm and we’re now within touching distance of the film’s release, but things could have been so different.
Doing the press rounds for The Weinstein’s feature, Tarantino revealed in an interview with David Poland that a novelized series had prompted him to pitch The Hateful Eight as a follow-up to fellow Western Django Unchained.
“After doing Django I knew I didn’t want to do any Django movie sequels or anything, but I liked the idea of there being several paperbacks that could be the further adventures of Django or maybe go back in time, a couple more Django/Schultz adventures.

In 1940s Hollywood, few screenwriters could hold a candle to the blistering success and aura of one Dalton Trumbo, who rose to the top of the pack with his brilliant work, only for it all to come crushing down when a wave of social paranoia washed over the United States of A. Left to fight against the Powers That Be for recognition as a genuine writer and free American citizen, the tragic tale is simply ripe for tapping, and it’s small wonder why the hero-to-zero arc hasn’t flirted with the silver screen in the past.

Low and behold, Miller’s long-gestating sequel proved to be one of the most inventive and intense cinematic experiences of the last decade, and it’s a testimony to the director’s deft touch that, despite the chaos, action sequences were still relatively easy to keep pace with.
Of course, with such a deep reservoir of footage, Fury Road was always going to produce a few deleted scenes of its own, and today a trio of those cut clips have surfaced online, showcasing more of Immortan Joe’s reign of terror and the War Rig making tracks across the arid, sun-scorched terrain. Truth be told,...

It has been a decade since Hurricane Katrina blew into New Orleans, carving a devastating path that forever changed the physical, social, racial, and political landscape of the city. The storm turned the nation's attention to issues that went far beyond the destruction that came with it. For filmmaker Zack Godshall, New Orleans provided an opportunity to tell a story while also capturing (with an unflinching eye) the aftermath of Katrina. The result was "Low And Behold," which screened at the Sundance Film Festival in 2007, and set to make its digital debut this week. We have the exclusive trailer for the movie below. Starring Barlow Jacobs ("Shotgun Stories," "The Master"), the film tells the story of a young insurance claim adjuster, in post-Katrina New Orleans, who risks his job to help a local man find his lost dog. Based on true events and filmed in New Orleans just months after the hurricane,...

Where were you when Hurricane Katrina blew through? One of the deadliest hurricanes in the history of the United States, Hurricane Katrina initially formed as a tropical storm on August 23, 2005, became a hurricane shortly after making landfall in Florida, where it weakened briefly before gaining in intensity over the Gulf of Mexico, then making landfall again over Louisiana on August 29. Katrina claimed more than 1,800 lives, and displaced more than one million people. In honor of the 10th anniversary, the feature film Low and Behold will make its digital premiere tomorrow on iTunes. Here's the official synopsis: Based on real events, Low and Behold tells the story of a young insurance claim adjuster, in post-Katrina New Orleans, who risks his job to help a local...

For the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. Based on real events, Low And Behold tells the story of a young insurance claim adjuster, in post-Katrina New Orleans, who risks his job to help a local man find his lost dog. Shot in New Orleans only months after Hurricane Katrina, this neorealist-inspired film blends fiction and non-fiction to tell the story of an unlikely friendship. Low And Behold was co-written and directed by Zack Godshall, whose other films include Lord Byron and God’S Architects. The film stars Barlow Jacobs (Shotgun Stories, The Master) who also co-wrote the script with Godshall. Jared Moshe, Sarah Hendler and Jacobs produced. “Low and Behold” will [ Read More ]

When—spoiler alert!—Kaitlyn Bristowe finally chose Shawn Booth as the winner of The Bachelorette season 11, we knew there had to be a show-stopping engagement ring coming soon. And rest assured, when Shawn got down on one knee and whipped out that ring box, we were anything but disappointed. Low and behold, a massive 3.5-carat diamond sparkler emerged from the little black box and onto the Kaitlyn's perfectly manicured finger. The exquisite Neil Lane number boasted a central round, brilliant cut diamond set into a platinum band. The hand-crafted design also featured 160 petite diamonds surrounding the main sparklers, and an entwined band that add even more sophistication to the already impressive...

Given the fact that Rocksteady’s trilogy-capper is so close to release, many had assumed that Batman: Arkham Knight would skip E3 2015 altogether as it put the final touches of polish prior to launch. Low and behold, Sony to took to include the upcoming threequel during the company’s press event earlier this evening, and the coverage brought about a new trailer which views Gotham from a first-person perspective.
Also, fair warning, if you are yet to play Batman: Arkham City – the second installment in the series – perhaps you should table this latest clip until you’re fully up to speed, as Rocksteady unveils a pretty major spoiler within the opening minute.
Batman: Arkham Knight will largely revolve around Scarecrow’s masterplan to topple The Caped Crusader once and for all, assembling a motley crew of villains that include Two-Face, The Penguin, Harley Quinn and Posion Ivy to name but a few.

When Neill Blomkamp took to his personal Instagram account to showcase what his version of an Alien movie would look like, fans of the seminal sci-fi franchise were irrefutably blown away. After seeing the IP tarnished over the years through derivative spinoffs and middling crossover movies, the District 9 helmer’s vision acted like a beacon of hope that many believed would never materialize.
Low and behold, 20th Century Fox stood up and took notice of the artwork and the excitement it generated by confirming plans to move forward with a new installment with Blomkamp in control. The announcement also encouraged series stalwart Sigourney Weaver to reveal that she is open to returning as galaxy defender Ellen Ripley, but the actress also revealed that another star wants in on the action: comedian and Louis C.K.

Even before it was sent forth on its maiden voyage toward the IMAX screen late last year, moviegoers the world over anticipated that Christopher Nolan’s cerebral sci-fi would take full advantage of the big-screen platform. Low and behold, despite its narrative flaws, Interstellar was brimming with such visual majesty and wonderfully orchestrated shots that it became almost a necessity to see it on the largest screen possible. And thankfully, Warner Bros. is offering those who perhaps slept on the opportunity to see the film in IMAX another chance.
That’s right, on Saturday, February 21st for one-day-only, the studio is re-releasing Interstellar alongside twelve minutes of behind-the-scenes footage to boot. Here’s a brief rundown of what to expect when Nolan’s opus hits the screen once more.

★★☆☆☆The original Inbetweeners Movie (2011) surprised both critics and audiences alike with its financial success. The big screen version of British TV series accumulated an estimated £45m at the UK box office, all but assuring a sequel. Low and behold, three years later and the foursome - now a little older but none the wiser - are back for The Inbetweeners 2 (2014), a sequel that's solidly entertaining, even if it does reek of fatigue. In desperate need of an escape from their monotonous lives, Will (Simon Bird), Simon (Joe Thomas) and Neil (Blake Harrison) decide to splurge all their student loans and savings to visit Jay (James Buckley), who claims to be having the time of his life in Australia.

Until about 10 minutes ago, there has been so much conflicting information, if not outright misinformation, about what exactly "Better Call Saul" will be: A straight "Breaking Bad" prequel? A time-bending journey that includes adventures during the reign of Heisenberg? A comedy? A drama with occasional laughs? Huell's story? AMC's press release about the full cast and basic premise and setting fill in some of the details — including that it begins six years before Saul (then known as Jimmy McGill) meets Walter White — and now co-creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould will hopefully bring more of the show (not due to premiere until early 2015) into sharper clarity, without actually giving too much of the fun away. I'll be live-blogging all of Gilligan's charming Virginian self-deprecation, all of Gould's jokes, and whatever nuggets we actually get about the new show. Before you understand why I’m about to gush over Jon Favreau’s tantalizing new movie Chef, please understand a few things about me. I’m an avid movie lover (as most film critics are), a passionate foodie (if the best burger is 20 miles away from me, I’ll gladly make the trip), and a passionate cook who loves to please his hungry crowd (ladies). With all those things said, Chef is a heartwarming smorgasbord that depicts writer/director Jon Favreau’s coming full circle in his filmmaking career, enduring all the hardships that come from starting on simple indie roots and growing into one of Hollywood’s most sought after blockbuster directors.

In the last few years, comedy has been well and truly hi-jacked by Melissa McCarthy. Cast your mind back, and try to recall a recent summer without her trademark banter appearing in one form or another. See? None. This year’s blockbuster season looks set to follow suit with her latest effort, Tammy. Low and behold, there’s a new full-length trailer released today to further whet your appetite.
McCarthy stars as the titular woman who’s just plain down on her luck. She suffers a rather abrasive firing from work, then she discovers her husband has been unfaithful. So, she does what any normal person would do – flee. That is, until her car gets totalled and she resorts to cadging a ride with her alcoholic grandmother, played by Susan Sarandon.
This new trailer expands on the wee glints hinted at in the first teaser, serving as a follow-up to the events of that taster.

HBO
HBO’s Game of Thrones is a show with very complex character relationships (in plot terms). Often characters make choices that have a lasting effect on people they have never met, on the other side of the world. Some decisions are bigger than others; some have consequences that are far reaching; some affect only the decision maker themselves. One thing that seems to prevail, as a concurrent theme across many of these choices is, strangely, that they are incredibly… stupid. It is rather bewildering, actually, when you consider that these occurrences will exceed the sum of your fingers if you tried to count them all.
So in honour of the characters we all know and love, and in anticipation of the upcoming Season 4 premiere, I’ve laid out some of the best ones for you to consider. Some of them are blunderous errors, made haphazardly; some are a result...

Five seasons in and 100 episodes later, the writers behind all things related to Mystic Falls, the Salvatore brothers, and of course, doppelgängers have given us countless twists, turns, and heartbreaking memorable moments. But what were the stories that turned out differently than they expected? And if that’s the case, what had been their original plan? Was Elena originally going to remain a vampire? Actually, no. Was Jeremy always going to come back from the dead? Again, not so much. We caught up with executive producers Julie Plec and Caroline Dries to get a look back at seven of the...

What is Casting Couch? It’s all of the day’s most pressing casting news compiled in one convenient place. Today we’ve got a very important update on what David Hasselhof is going to be up to next. The Germans should love this one. One of the more important characters who’s going to be introduced in the next two Hunger Games movies is Alma Coin, who’s the President of one of the Districts that make up the story’s dystopian world—probably the most important and mysterious of all the Districts too. Anyway, she’s a lady, and she’s the sort of lady who projects quite a bit of competence and authority, so it’s going to be important for director Francis Lawrence to find an experienced actress with some real chops to play her. Low and behold, Deadline has a report that he’s likely found such an actress. According...

Matthew Goode (Watchmen, Match Point) strolled into the press day for Park Chan-wook’s latest, Stoker (review), wearing a belt so we were all immediately nervous. After all, Goode’s character, Uncle Charlie, prefers, at times, to use his belt for something other than just holding up his britches.
Jokes aside, Matthew was almost as charming as his sociopathic character in the film as we spoke, a similarity that added a little menace to the proceedings.
Dread Central: How do you feel being chosen for this type of role, a sexy killer?

Back in 2009, an extremely independent Thanksgiving themed horror film was created called ThanksKilling, introducing the world to a foul-mouthed and murderous one-liner serving fowl named Turkie. I caught Jordan Downey’s film streaming on Netflix late one night with an equally open-minded horror fan, and we were completely taken aback by the amature-ish nature of the film. It was like a film school project gone wrong, attempting to make the most crude jokes and terrible dialogue while playing around with a turkey puppet, hoping to achieve “so bad it’s good” fame. I mean sure, Ok, a horror film centered around a demonic turkey with a knack for terrible puns sounded like an entertaining watch at least, as long as you’re a die-hard B-Movie fan, but the intelligence level of ThanksKilling was comparable to an unborn fetus. A downright painful experience for anyone expecting a fun, low-budget horror romp with some demented holiday action.
