Under Suspicion

Superficial similarities to the previous episode. Only this time it is barrister James Eliot who had a drink and then went driving.

He certainly went through a red light and gets stopped by the police. Sgt Charlie Thompson knows James and lets him off. This makes PC Joe Blake unhappy.

Blake ended up being demoted from CID after a tussle with James in court. He holds a grudge.

When Blake watches James handing some money to Thompson in the pub. He thinks that he has got both bang to rights. James is arrested on corruption charges. Thompson is suspended.

The pub landlord backs Blake's version of events and half heard a conversation. It all ends up with James under pressure. He claims the money to Thompson was for his brother, a builder to help renovate a cottage.

Harriet Peterson does not have much to do, here although Dr Ian Moody goes undercover at a clip joint to help out James.

It seems the pub landlord was pressured to back up Blake, as his daughter managed to evade arrest several years earlier when a raid took place in a brothel. Blake was the detective who might had tipped her off. He certainly put a lot at risk to get even with James.
