Rather dull story of a miller's daughter wronged by a rich lord. It would be hard to think of a greater cliche, and this doesn't do anything new or better with the premise.
It's based on an old Polish opera, and was filmed as a silent in the very last days of the era, with a soundtrack later added on separate gramophone records that have now been lost. The new blu-ray adds a nice new one, based upon the original written music but with a modern feel and sound.
The restored print looks amazing, and the outdoors shots especially almost feel like stepping out of a time machine. There's not much else to recommend it, though, and the whole thing feels a good decade older and out-of-date than it already is.
