Sweden's "Twin Peaks"... scores on its own flamboyant & hypnotic merits!
ozjeppe7 March 2007
This is one of those gems in the myriad world of miniseries that I wish could make it internationally. It's the 4-part tale of a small northern town in Sweden where a mysterious, (or is it supernatural?) visit from an alleged church painter opens a Pandoras' box of secrets among the town folks and families: An estranged priest, unhappy marriages, adultery, ghostly voices and paralyzed sons... Great script and performances, framed by hypnotic, flamboyant camera-work.

You could without shame dub it Sweden's "Twin Peaks", as the comparison feels inevitable, but it definitely scores on its own merits, balancing both heartfeltness and eerie uncertainty in its world of a unique character gallery. The celestial finale is unfortunately somewhat of letdown, in my eyes, where the audience is left without enough promised answers, but overall this is still SO worth catching!
