Hour One.
(07.22.96)
Live from Orlando, FL - Disney / MGM Studios (outdoor venue)
Your hosts are Tony Schiavone & Larry Zbyszko
Scott Norton Vs Dave Taylor
Taylor wins by DQ after Norton tosses Taylor over the top rope. Okay. This was utterly pointless! Not only was it a heel vs heel match, the finish makes no sense.
½*
The Four Horsemen (Arn Anderson, Steve McMichael & Chris Beniot) make some comments about their match with Sting, Lex Luger, and Randy Savage later tonight.
V.K. Wallstreet Vs Konnan
Some people were chanting "I.R.S" and "Irwin". HA! Wallstreet wins with a crucifix. This was a boring match that featured a lot of rest holds and very little excitement.
*
Sting, Lex Luger, and Randy Savage are out next for an interview. Luger says the NWO waits until they can get cheap shots in and do 3 on 1 assaults. Sting says Hogan can stick it and wants Flair to show up because he's chomping at the bit to get at the Horsemen. Savage says he wants to beat up everybody in one night. He wants Hogan, Flair, and The Outsiders.
Joe Gomez, The Renegade, Alex Wright & Jim Powers Vs Kevin Sullivan, Hugh Morrus, The Barbarian & The Leprechaun (W/Jimmy Hart)
The match ends in a DQ after The Giant comes in and chokeslams all the babyfaces. This match was completely overshadowed by Scott Hall & Kevin Nash invading the control room, and goofing around by panning into the crowd. It didn't bother me because I had no interest in this match.
3/4*
The Giant says he vowed to defend the title anywhere, anytime. He says while Hogan was in Hollywood making movies, The Giant was busy being the cancer that nobody can cure. He says at Hog Wild, he's gonna chokeslam Hogan in the middle of the ring.
Diamond Dallas Paige Vs Prince Iaukea
DDP wins with the Diamond Cutter. This is way too short for me to really comment on.
3/4*
Hour Two.
Your hosts are Eric Bischoff & Bobby Heenan
Dean Malenko (W/Jimmy Hart) Vs Chavo Guererro Jr.
Malenko wins by submission with the Texas Cloverleaf. Malenko slapped on too many rest holds for my liking in this match. That's my only complaint about Malenko. The man is a phenomenal talent, but sometimes he puts on too many rest holds.
*3/4
Ice Train (W/Teddy Long) Vs Meng (W/Jimmy Hart)
Norton attacks Meng on the outside to cause the DQ. This is another match I wasn't all that interested in. It doesn't help that the match was fairly crappy.
*1/4
Eddie Guererro Vs Psychosis
Eddie wins with the frog splash. This is a solid little match! This is on par with the match they had on Nitro a couple of weeks before this one. The right man went over here.
***
Arn Anderson, Chris Beniot & Steve McMichael (W/Miss Elizabeth, Debra & Woman) Vs Sting, Lex Luger & Randy Savage
Conspicuous by his absence is Ric Flair. The faces win after Savage nails Beniot from behind with a briefcase. This was a decent main event that had enough energy to maintain your interest throughout.
**1/2
Someone hilariously throws their underwear in the ring. Gene Okerlund tells the fan not to do it, but Savage hilariously says it's okay. Sting, Luger, and Savage comment on Hog Wild. Savage says he's gonna kick Hogan's head in.
6/10 ranking overall.
