"Hilda & Karl" is a German 13-minute live action short film from 2006, so this one has its 10th anniversary this year. This is the third directorial effort (and writing effort) and the second short film from filmmaker Toke Constantin Hebbeln, who is mostly known for the Fehling/Diehl/Zehrfeld film "Wir wollten aufs Meer", which I will certainly see at some point too. But now back to this short film. It features Katja Bürkle and Stephan Grossmann playing the two title characters. While Grossmann is a familiar face that I have seen in other films already, I am not familiar with Bürkle at all, probably because she has not been as prolific as her male co-lead. Quite a shame as she plays her part convincingly. This is the story of a female factory worked who has a crush on her colleague. When the two finally meet, things do not go exactly as planned. But will it keep them apart? Or get them together? watch for yourself. Or don't as I found, overall, this was not a particularly convincing watch. There is a charming moment here and there, but in terms of the story it just did not feel enough in terms of quality and quantity, even for such a brief work. I just did not end up caring for any of the characters at all I guess and there were some really odd inclusions, like the turtle for example. Sp, thumbs-down from me as a whole, not a failure, but also not good enough that I would recommend seeing it.
