Dollgatory is a movie about purgatory, but it plays like liquid Hell.
The plot: After trying (unsuccessfully) to kill his wife for insurance money, a dollar store owner must work through his sins in purgatory; which comes in the form of the same dollar store owner that he spends his days. He must not only satisfy the needs of his customers, but somehow make them believe in God and be "humble." Keep in mind, of course, that all of his customers are still alive, and he is dead, so really this is just God screwing with him.
If the premise sounds bad, watching it is worse. It is Kevin Smith crossed with the guys who made Fireproof, resulting in a movie sure to please no one. It is offensive without being funny, sappy without being involving, preachy without being wise and endless (endless!) at only 85 minutes. It is also homophobic and misogynistic, as an added bonus.
Incompetently made and poorly filmed, many scenes consist of the actors standing around, waiting for something to happen. The performances are all over the top, and many times there are flubbed takes that somehow ended up in the movie. The main character narrates and talks into the camera, often so that he has something to do. There are three montages for no reason, and lots of dancing to bad techno.
I cannot overstate how bad this movie is. You can't even make fun of it. You have to see it to believe it- but that's too high a price.
