When Denis Villeneuve adapted Frank Herbert’s novel into Dune and Dune: Part Two, he made significant changes to the source material. Fans of the book may be a little upset with the director, but they appear to be in the minority as the film received rave reviews from critics and audiences. Villeneuve’s approach is very similar to Peter Jackson’s when the latter adapted J.R.R. Tolkien’s dense books of The Lord of the Rings into a condensed three-part film.

Dune: Part Two is expected to break many box office records during its theatrical run due to the overwhelming response. The film has some exceptional performances from Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, Austin Butler, and Stellan Skarsgård.

In a carriage battle about pay TV’s future, one of the original cable channels became an unexpected flashpoint.
Freeform, the Disney-owned cable channel that caters to younger women, was dropped from Spectrum channel lineups as part of Disney’s landmark deal with Charter Communications. It was no small decision, with Freeform in some 74 million homes at the end of last year, and with Charter’s nearly 15 million cable TV households no longer having access.
“When we looked across the portfolio to try to identify where the greatest value in this deal was to us, we definitely made some trade-offs,” Disney Entertainment co-chairman Dana Walden told The Hollywood Reporter after the Spectrum deal was announced. She noted that channels like Freeform already served as a pipeline of programming for streaming services like Hulu.

It’s been 12 years since “Greek” wrapped its run on ABC Family — which of course, is now Freeform — but the cast is still hoping to see a revival of the show someday. And yes, that includes Jake McDorman.
While on the red carpet for his new Peacock series “Mrs. Davis,” McDorman was quick to jump on board when TheWrap floated the idea of a revival series, enthusiastically noting that he and his former co-stars all still talk regularly.
“Yeah! I’m still friends with all those guys, we talk all the time,” McDorman said. “The guys, we all kind of live close — in fact, I think, I talked to Clark Duke earlier, I think he’s gonna be here — but me, Scott, Pj, Jacob Zachar, Clark, we’re all still super close, so I know we’d be down.”

Two speedboats collided Friday morning during the filming of “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3,” according to the Greek Coast Guard and Greek news sites. The Nia Vardalos-directed film recently began filming in Greece.
One person had minor injuries, and local news sources said the person was a Greek national. The accident took place in Thymari in the Attica area near the southern tip of Greece.
One of the boats capsized, and its passengers, including actors and crew members, were rescued at sea, Greece’s Coast Guard reported. The injured actor was transported to a hospital, but was not seriously injured. Reports indicated the actor was trapped under the boat and rescued by a diver.
A total of 16 Greek and international actors and crew members, as well as equipment, were on board the two boats, during filming of a scene which required two boats to be traveling parallel to one another.

Not exactly like the Greek Weird Wave, which derived from the unusual narrative and character choices that border on the absurd, the Korean equivalent includes movies that have a fiction/sci fi base but arthouse aesthetics, to the point that one could say they kind of mock the first with the lack of SFX or any kind of action elements. That most of these titles are supposedly futuristic or alternate reality or dystopian films that take place in settings that have little to no difference than the current times, highlights this “weird” aspect, in an approach that can be attributed to the difficulties of shooting during the lockdowns or to insufficient funds, but still results in a series of productions that can easily be described as unique. Truth be told, the term “wave” may be a bit excessive, since the number of titles does not exactly justify the word, but...

Tango Shalom, where a female tango dancer (Dancing with the Stars champion Karina Smirnoff) invites an Orthodox Jewish Rabbi (Jos Laniado) to enter a televised dance competition, was an arthouse standout this weekend with a per screen average of over $4,000 at four theaters in New York and LA. The solid performance in a generally dour specialty market shows the power of older demos when they want to come out, nudged in this case by a targeted postcard mailing blitz, according to Atlas Distribution President Harmon Kaslow.
Tango Shalom is distributed worldwide by Vision Films with Atlas managing U.S. theatrical.
Kaslow thinks the comedy, directed by Gabriel Bologna with a sweet message and a star (Lainie Kazan) and producer (Joel Zwick) from the 2002 breakout hit My Big, Fat Greek Wedding, also benefitted from an exclusive theatrical run. Distributors have been noting the one-two boon of a decent window (60 days in...

Greek tragedy echos through the modern-day Korean #MeToo movement in Ougie Pak’s Clytaemnestra. Made on the fly at an acting workshop in Greece, the film follows an actress as she struggles with the text of Agamemnon and against her domineering director, exploring power dynamics and the artistic process. Though very slight indeed, the film plays a bit like a more on-the-nose version of one of Hong Sang-soo’s sequentially shot explorations of sexist microaggressions and meta-cinematic reflexivity.
Hye Bin (Haru Kim) arrives in Athens with her hard-shell wheelie suitcase to begin rehearsals with a director played by Jongman Kim, an actor who in fact invited Pak to come to Greece and make a movie out of a two-week acting workshop he was leading there. Ambers Stevens West has starred in a handful of iconic shows over the years, including Greek and The Carmichael Show, but for the actress, her recent role on Starz's Run the World is definitely her most meaningful. The series, which premiered on May 16, follows four Black women living in Harlem as they navigate life, friendships, and relationships. While roles like Ashleigh on Greek helped start Stevens West's career (and introduced her to her now-husband Andrew West), the actress told Popsugar that Run the World is super special because it has the most value to her in her personal life and as an actress. "I stretched myself in a direction that I haven't before," she said about the role.
After previously starring on network TV, Stevens West was excited (and a little nervous) about the opportunity to appear on a Starz series. "The show approached me and they were saying,...

Hollywood has struck again, further perpetuating the idea that all Spanish accents are created equal, and every Hispanic is a Latino. Universal Pictures released the first trailer for “The 355” starring Jessica Chastain, Lupita Nyong’o, Diane Kruger, Penélope Cruz and Fan Bingbing. As the trailer unfolds, with action that’s a mix of “Ocean’s Eleven” and “The Bourne Identity,” the first look showcases all the protagonists’ ethnic backgrounds as a dangling carrot to our “woke” generation.
In a voiceover, Nyong’o describes the intelligence agencies the women work for — American (Chastain), British (Nyong’o), German (Kruger), Colombian (Cruz), Chinese (Fan). Furthermore, the film’s official synopsis describes Cruz’s Graciela as a “skilled Colombian psychologist,” alongside Kruger’s Marie (“badass German agent”).
The use of the American and British cultural identities allows for a broader interpretation of what each of the women’s characters is, and what they may look like.

The Turtle sailed through the first quarterfinal of “The Masked Singer” on April 8. He will compete again in the semifinal on April 29. If you can’t wait till then, you can watch a reprise of one of his past performances on the sing-along episode of “The Masked Singer” on April 15. We are promised more clues as to his identity then too but we think we’ve cracked that already.
The Turtle is tops when it comes to vocals among the seven remaining contestants on “The Masked Singer.”

His strong vocals and sense of showmanship on the Steve Winwood song “Higher Love” on the April 1 episode secured him a place in the quarterfinals. In the first of these on April 8, he competes against the Astronaut, Kangaroo and Night Angel. Each is hoping to win over the four judges and the studio audience.
We’ve rewatched the Turtle’s April 1 performance as well as his first three appearances (“Kiss From a Rose” by Seal; “Say You Won’t Let Go” by James Arthur and “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” by Shawn Mendes). While we are certain that this is a one-time boy band member we are equally convinced that judges are wrong with their guesses that the Turtle is either Jenny’ husband Donnie Wahlberg...
