Nothing enchanting about this movie

"Bezaubernde Marie" is a German television film from 2007, so this one is already easily over a decade old and like, almost all small screen releases in my country, it runs for approximately 1.5 hours, minimally under. The director is Peter Weissflog and he is also one of the two writers here. Well, looking at his body of work, there is some really bad stuff included there and not really one project of movie filled with creativity and class. So it is no surprise this film turned out a mess too honestly. Maybe the name Sägebrecht is also already enough to make that correct conclusion because honestly, in every film she is in playing the main character (Pettersson and Findus is fine I guess), she plays exactly the same character, the story is extremely similar and the movie takes itself so seriously from an emotional perspective that it is difficult to stomach. I guess the title here was a reference to the German title of the famous television series "I dream of Jeannie" and this is still one of the areas where they did not go as wrong as everywhere else. Where the film sucks less. But still sucks. As for the cast, I think the names Held and Tkotsch I have come across earlier in other projects, but then again this film is never about anybody else than Sägebrecht's character. It's baffling how she has made a career for decades despite having any range whatsoever and like I said playing the same character in every film. Would have been good perhaps if this successful Adlon film had never been made, the one that turned her into something similar to a star you could say.

Anyway, as for the story here: Sägebrecht plays a woman who runs a business, but actually is more busy helping everybody else because she is such a formidable human being, and as a consequence is not only in danger of losing the business, but also losing her home because the bank wants the money. There is Hans-Peter Korff's character next to her and he makes sure (or tries to) that she manages to cope at least with the most basic financial necessities. The actor was alright I think. Sadly, he rarely had anything else to do than telling us (and Marie) that she needs to stop caring for other people, but start caring for herself. Like ten times. It was really almost insulting how on any occasion they depicted her as the female film equivalent of Mahathma Gandhi. The best example is how she is announced at the circus near the end, something along the lines of "the caring" woman. Oh yeah, there is a bit of a circus story in here as (obviously) she worked in one in the past and was also successful, but the poor woman had to give up because she got injured. The only thing missing really at the end which could have made the film even worse than it actually was (which felt almost impossible) would have been Held's character falling for her kindred spirit. But this area is also taken care of. Of coure, they need a romance story and poor Marie lost her husband years ago. Okay I think you get it now. Her main task in this movie is basically fixes a fairly messed-up family because the father doed not take enough care of the kids and also there is a man who may or may not be guilty of the mother dying a while ago. Marie fixes everything, don't worry. I'm sure you are really surprised. By the way, the man I just mentioned work atg the circus, so there is the connection and of course the inclusion that Marie also did years ago. Another part of the story that is not working out at all. We see a little magic trick from her in a restaurant (well had she really choked or died there, then the film could have been over after an hour at least, may sound a bit mean, but honestly it's just a character and if you fake something like that (really unrealistically obviously), then you have to deal with that) and like I said her performance was really not good acting there too, but of course everybody in the restaurant is amazed. Come on, they did not even see the beginning of the trick. But still they applaud our beloved Marie. It's just impossible to take. This film was simply horrible and should not be shown anymore, not even in the afternoon on a smaller channel like it was today. What is even worse and impossible to understand for me is that they made a sequel. Audiences should be ashamed that enouggh of them watched the film that they made another. And the makers as well. Do they not have any artistic integrity. This is what they ue the money for that they force everybody to pay. Disgusting. An abomination. Highly not recommended.
