A gentle series with nothing to offend
Tweekums15 February 2012
Warning: Spoilers
When I stumbled across this series I had no idea what to expect and now that I've seen it; it isn't that easy to describe. That is because very little actually happens; the story follows Akari, a girl who has moved to the planet Aqua to become a gondolier working for the Aria Company in the city of Neo-Venezia. Over the course of the thirteen episodes she makes friends with Aika and Alice who are training to be gondoliers for other companies. They frequently train together and sometimes do things together on their time off. There are hints at science fiction that go deeper than their presence on a Terra-formed planet; in one episode Akari crosses a bridge and finds herself in Aqua's past; while this isn't explained I thought it was the best episode.

While little of excitement occurs the series is pleasant enough to watch as the characters are likable and the backgrounds are stunning. There is some humour; largely provided by the company's president... a large white cat; it is a tradition for all of the companies to have a blue-eyed cat as president as they are considered lucky. I wouldn't consider this a must see series but it is good enough and contains nothing to offend even the most easily offended viewers. There are follow-on series, 'Aria the Natural' and 'Aria the Origination' which I'd watch if they were legally available... this series was available on YouTube but episodes were only available for a limited time.

Enchanting and Heartwarming Aria: The Animation (2005-2015)
cafef-9600216 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This anime series takes us on a whimsical journey through the peaceful city of Neo-Venezia, where gondolas gracefully glide on the canals and the skies are painted with shades of pink and purple. Follow the story of Akari, a young girl who has always dreamed of becoming an undine, a professional gondolier, and watch as she discovers the magic of this serene city.

The animation in this series is stunning, with vibrant colors and detailed backgrounds that bring the city to life. The characters are lovable and each have their own unique personality, making it easy to become invested in their stories. The world-building is intricate, with a blend of futuristic and traditional elements that make Neo-Venezia a truly enchanting place.

One of the standout aspects of this series is its slice-of-life nature, as we follow Akari's daily life and interactions with her friends and mentor. It may seem slow-paced to some, but for fans of the genre, it is a refreshing change of pace with its gentle and heartwarming moments.

The only downside is that the plot can feel a bit aimless at times, with no major conflicts or overarching storyline. However, that is also part of the charm of the series, as it allows us to simply immerse ourselves in the peaceful and beautiful world of Aria.

Aria is the best anime ever

I love Aria with all my life. If I never had watched aria I would probably be living on the streets begging people for change. Aria is a wonderful anime with lots of life lessons and experiences that makes this heartwarming series so wonderful. It is notoriously slow but if you want a wholesome, beautiful series with great music, characters, and short stories, this is the anime. It is the king of slice of life anime. The Aria fanbase is a sacred society and is full of some of the world's greatest minds. Bill Gates watched Aria and I hang out with him every Sunday. Aria is definitely worth watching.

Good idea, clichéd final product

"No sappy lines allowed"

I have one word to say about this: Predictable

I don't get what's with everyone's hype with this anime. It's boring, unoriginal, and saccharine. If you are looking for a fast- paced, entertaining anime, then Aria the Animation is not the best choice to watch. Sure it may have a good idea but the story is boring and very slow-paced, not for those looking for action.

Story:

Too much flashbacks, expositions, and development makes this enjoyable likely for people who enjoy slow-paced slice of life anime. But I was having a hard time sitting through this as it has really bad plot issues and there's no story anyway.

Characters: The characters' interactions are pretty saccharine. I understand that the writers were trying to go for a more simple, kid-friendly series but there is little for teens to enjoy.

Ai-chan was a character that overstays her welcome to begin with. The character itself is not extremely annoying but still not my cup of tea. It would've been good for Akari to interact with her for a little while but making her a secondary character who sends her e- mails was surprisingly rushed.

The other characters are annoying stereotypes. There are tsunderes and cutesy girls which filled this anime to the point of being unbearable. This could've been done with less development and drama.
