ADVENTURES OF THE FALCON – Case of the Lone Hunter – 1954
This is the 8th episode of the 39 episode run of the 1954 to 1956 series, ADVENTURES OF THE FALCON. Film noir icon Charles McGraw headlines as Mike Waring, an agent of the U.S. Government. The series follows McGraw as he travels the world putting the kibosh on various criminals and foreign agents.
In this one, McGraw is sent to Cairo to look into a possible problem for the U.S. Government. Mobster, Ric Roman has moved to Egypt where he intends to set up an American style underworld racket. This of course would be bad public relations for the US.
While tailing Roman, he sees ex-gangsters moll, Adele Mara, strolling with the new head of the Police, Robert Lowery. Roman approaches Mara and the two, talk. McGraw figures that Mara must be in town to help Roman by romancing the Police commander.
What McGraw does not know, is that Mara has turned a new leaf and wants nothing to do with Roman. Roman, being a complete swine, threatens to tell her new love, Lowery, about her past. Roman even swipes her jewels to help set himself up in business in Cairo.
McGraw pays Roman a visit to tell him the US Government is on to him. The two start up a first rate round of flying fists with McGraw being laid out cold.
When he comes to, standing over him is Police commander, Lowery. On the bed is the dead as a doornail Roman. Of course the Police insist that McGraw is the killer. McGraw knows a set-up when he sees it, and calls Lowery on it. Lowery seems confused by the accusation, and tells McGraw he has 6 hours to leave the country.
Oh well, that still gives him time to do a little detective work. He quickly tumbles bar owner and part time jewel fence, Paul Bryar out of the woodwork. Bryar had been the man Roman had offered the jewels he stole from Miss Mara. Bryar had arrived at the end of the fight between McGraw and Roman. He saw a perfect way to avoid paying Roman off, kill him, and leave McGraw to get the blame.
This is another quick, and to the point half hour worth of thrills and violence. It is always a treat to see the ravishing Adele Mara in anything. She played many a damsel in distress, or femme fatale in numerous REPUBLIC PICTURES films during the 1940's and early 50's.
