A short film intended to be shown to canvassers who would solicit savings bonds on behalf of the U.S. Department of the Treasury. It was never intended to be seen by the general public, but in 2006 was released on a "Lassie/Mr. Ed Double Feature" DVD by Digiview Entertainment, along with The Wonderful World of Wilbur Pope, The Trial (1956), and The Tree House (1956).
"Wilbur Gets the Message...About Payroll Savings" was produced in 1963 and premiered for leading Treasury volunteers at a national Savings Bonds sales conference in Washington, D.C. in late 1963. The film was sponsored by Chrysler Corporation and produced by Filmways Productions, as a public service. On December 30, 1963, it was announced that the 16mm free-loan sound film was available through state offices of the Savings Bonds Division, United States Treasury Department, to companies conducting Payroll Savings campaigns to be shown to employees to encourage them to sign up.
