Two in one month? I know, that’s not something we normally do while still in the summer. And yet, here we are, looking at updated Academy Award predictions. The Oscars may seem off in the distance, but there’s only four full months of new releases left in the year. In a few days I’ll run down the best of the first two thirds of 2017, but it’s the final, still to be seen, third that will make or break the year. That’s what I’m still speculating on here. This is truly the final moments of calm before the awards season storm begins. Before you know it, precursors will be chiming in and the race will be taking shape. Next month will see huge turnover with the fall film festival season creating new contenders, turning previous ones into pretenders, and upending the race overall. As such,...

Tuesday’s episode of This Is Us contained a simple story about Kate (Chrissy Metz) wanting to watch football all by herself before ultimately realizing that she’d have to incorporate her significant other into her weekly ritual if she wanted to move forward in her relationship.
And what Toby (Chris Sullivan) would realize is that Kate wasn’t actually watching football alone. She was cheering right alongside her father. Or at least his ashes.
Yes, “The Game Plan” revealed (or confirmed, depending on your speculation skills) that Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) is no longer alive.

It looks like Cars 2 will not be the only film preceded by a new Toy Story short. Today it was announced that another new short featuring the Toy Story characters will be shown before The Muppets when it's released on November 23. The short before Cars 2 is called Toy Story Hawaiian Vacation. (Here are the details on that short from our earlier report)
Variety briefly mentioned the news in their story when talking about the short that will run with the Cars sequel, “a second will unspool in front of the upcoming “Muppets” movie.” The Muppets short will be the first Pixar short to play in front of a non-Pixar production. Two in one year has got be good news for Toy Story fans!

It’s really a pain in the ass to review a show like Glee: one that plays fast-and-loose with continuity, then every four-to-six episodes remembers that there were episodes that took place before this week. It flip-flops between existing in a vacuum and being painfully, annoyingly self-aware. Meta is like anesthesia: a little is helpful, but too much kills.
Tonight’s first mouthful of meta comes from Emma, who points out Will’s formula to him: Rachel sings a ballad and is joined by the rest for a classic rock number where Mercedes wails on the last couple measures. Realizing his nail has been hit squarely on the head, Will has to race Rachel’s mouth to burst her bubble. He cuts her off to announce that - are you ready for this? - Brittany and Mike are going to dance together for Sectionals!
Fucking finally!
Thankfully, Rachel’s follow-up question,...
