Sack the writers
jhoyle198518 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This was a complete slog of terrible dialogue with the story basically ripped off from the election and current Brexit situation. It's a portrait of Britain at its worst done the worst way possible. Dear Sky Originals, you can read the scripts before you produce them. Stick to working with companies like HBO.

One hell of a comedy

Easily the most cringeworthy thing on TV this year and that's saying something. A damn shame.

Good, but could be better!
biguk18 October 2023
Having watched the first 2 seasons it's entertaining and a fun dramatised incite into the goings on in COBRA, but for me it could go further. The writers introduce the jeopardy over 5 episodes, slowly increasing it but then always leave it to the last 5mins of the show for a miracle to come along and save the day. Will would prefer a faster pace with a whole final episode that devoted to a conclusion rather than right before the credits rolls. It's like defusing a bomb with 1 sec left on the timer again and again. Why wait!

You can't fault the casting, there's some great British acting being done with a star cast!

Solid tv entertainment
dave-899-29151119 January 2020
Whilst there are some unresolved plot lines, seeing Robert Carlyle as the PM was a superb choice, excellent value. Richard Dormer is brilliant as ever as well, looking like he could go full on nutter at any moment. Top TV.

Good to watch, shame about the constant Tory bashing.
qfcmjgb9 November 2021
Great programme, but certain aspects are clearly biased towards a certain left-wing political party.

If you're going to make a TV programme, don't turn into a political platform.

Why the hate?
rjsleigh21 January 2020
I'm not sure why this is being hated on so much.

It's different and more interesting than some of the recent stuff that is currently rated higher than this.

Fragile plot, worth a binge
RonansDex18 January 2020
Robert Carlyle's excellence can't save the show, but he does offer glimpses of a classic 24 thriller even if the only Sutherland is executive office. Show is based on political uproar from a seemingly un-natural natural episode. I've just binged all 6 episodes and they were enjoyable despite the leap to apocalyptic doom. Still better than 80% of new American drama.

Cringeworthy
pat-8256618 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I'm midway through episode 3 and so far it's utter garbage. A catastrophic event has people in the north lynching each other while the south carry on with bread and circuses. What on earth could they be talking about?

Don't worry, I'm sure at some point one of the characters will actually say "This is just how Brexit will be" - it's that on the nose.

A cringeworthy script, wafer thin characters and tedious side plots. Someone cried out "Is this what we've become?" to no one in particular. I like to think he was talking to the creators of this mess.

The concept had some potential but the execution is appalling. Everyone involved should be seriously embarrassed.

Definitely worth binge watching
mrjolly117 January 2020
I don't know why everyone is giving this low scoring. I've just watched all the episodes today and thoroughly enjoyed it. Brilliant acting and a well thought out storyline. Queue the keyboard warriers :)

Entertaining
expiredexpiredminds19 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
If you leave out the specifics and accuracies of real time weather phenomenon, as entertainment value, it passed a couple of days of binge watching the whole season. I enjoyed it.

Even with the lorry crossing the crumbling weak bridge with the back up system had me wishing like hell, it would cross over to the other side.

Too many folk look under the microscope and get too analytical with a show like this.

Just sit back and accept it as it is, just purely entertainment with your packet of crisps and beers.

Its okay !!

Not as good as the terrible 80s Stallone movie of the same name
jimi-hen23 January 2020
When you think about the phenomenal quality of a lot of television being created right now, I just don't know who was thinking what when this was conceived. It's all so terribly dull. Seems like they just thought they could pad out a disaster premise with a load of political caricatures and other such stereotypical characters and throw in an irritating side story about students taking drugs (controversial) and it all going wrong like an episode of Casualty from 1988. Look at that bloke from the Met. "I'm a scientist, look at my unkempt hair and beard. Clearly, I'm a scientist." Get bent!!! Then the power goes out and it's all very exciting... except it really isn't. The actors are wasted really with a lame script and not much really expected from them in terms of acting. Also far too many posh, vacuous London turds everywhere for it to be remotely relatable to most normal people. I am disappointed in Carlyle and the one who played the Queen mum in the Crown... she seems to think she is still portraying a Royal. Very odd. Also, if you can't afford the budget to depict plane crashes properly (or even vaguely realistically) then write something where you don't need to bother. At least write something that maintains people's attention. Did I mention how dull it all was, just relentlessly mediocre. Sky should do better too, especially after Chernobyl. I thought they'd turned a corner. then they churn out this steamer. Boo.

Persevered for all 6 episodes, as dramas can improve, sadly this is truly awful.

Pretty good effort
mh-200-68898330 January 2020
Ignore the poor reviews. I'm convinced folks award one star if a show isn't the best thing they've ever seen period. It's no House if Cards but it's a good in most places, very good in some. Lots of tense stand-offs and believable character.

This is what i expect from a tv show. Till the last minute a thrilling storyline. Great role for Robert Carlyle - whos acting is spot on. Same for Victoria Hamilton. A very well put together cast. Hoping for season 2

Pretend Tory's aren't all bad
stephenmsaunders27 October 2023
There is something very disingenuous about cobra, a weak sauce, governmental soap opera, sett in a made up world, where politicians have morals, and some basic level of competency.

It's all completely ludicrous. Having seen what Sunak and Johnson and May and the rest of the clown car;s occupants have done to the UK it is completely and utterly unbelievable that any Tory government would handle any of the so-called crises that present themselves in COBRA with anything like this level of competence, or confidence, or without simply doing what it would take to keep them in government, and get another job in the private sector afterwards.

Some of the script is just poor. A bit like modern Britain.

Summary: Tory Government Soap Opera.

So bad facts not checked.
mikehamill-575-32533818 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This show hasn't checked that we have emergency generators in storage around the country. We have transformer manufacturers with stock available to move within a day and the Unions have agreed not to strike during a national emergency. So where is the crisis?

Don't get the hate!
muamba_eats_toast4 May 2020
The series was a high paced thrill ride that even during moments where it was pretty imperfect still flew by thanks to the pacing. One criticism is they could have done a better job early on making you care about the characters that deserved it but by the halfway point they managed to improve these points to. Set up nicely if they want to do a season 2 and I'd certainly be there to watch!

Simple and predictable at times but not too shabby for a British original drama
liam_nb11 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This feels really high budget with good production value which is scarce in britain even Doctor Who lost any sense of production value over 5 years ago so this gets points for that, but it obviously has flaws really glaring flaws at times like in the first series the main antagonist gets hit by a car and killed by who you ask the answer is who knows cos it just doesnt cler it up and ends really suddenly, then skips 2 years i assume cos it doesnt date it so i guess robert carlyle won the general election and do they bother exploring that, nope. But stop right there you say series 2 doesnt have any unresolved issues oh wait yes it does, that reporter dude got shot but nah who cares about that, who was handling him not really even stated that much and who blew up the sunk ship its hinted at being America but never said and in the next series Francines MP election isnt even brought up and lets not mention them doing like a whole series worth of stuff in the last episode like why are they rushing a conclusion the pacing is terrible.

Thats the bad but there ius good, Richard Dormer is excellnt and unfortunately absent from part 3 with no context, Carlyle isnt bad but i think his performance and character as a whole declines poorly he was quite cool and heroic in series 1 but he just becomes a bit of a shrub in the later parts. Nobody else is worth mentioning.

The writing on characters ranges from really good to predictably lame especially with the wife and daughter they are just poor and misused plot devices at times, Francine is the biggest switcheroo shes good in 2, lame in 1 and kinda okay in 3.

Now i have to address the elephant in the room this show is about tories and it really doesnt portray them very accurately even Archie the obvious parallel of current tories feels to clever and sometimes patriotic for a tory the ginger lass in 3 is way to clever and confident organising a military coup to be a tory and Caryle is way too liberal to be a tory, Labour are portrayed in part 2 as quite coniving as well which i think is more for the thematic purpose of the show but i dont think labour have it in them to be so coniiving.

British politics is full of really bad guys at this time who are almost comically incompetant and daft and this show does not do that justice, so it loses me at times with its version of our government, you can say the characters being unrealistic is good or bad but it is what it is and the scenarios shown are completely wild and them all converging to happen so quickly is bad writing but saying that i enjoyed it i would have made it 10 episodes a series and had more character development andmore government figures portrayed but 7/10 seems fair for good production value and decent entertainment value if you ignore that ginger lass saying 'wokerati' thats just completely cringe inducing.

This was just dreadful! The portrait of the "Thick northern right wing thugs" against the "Educated left wing liberal elite in Westminster" OMG really bad. It started ok, but by episode 3 no no no.

AWFUL
clairelouise-h18 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I had really high hopes for this series. Binged the full 6 episodes, what a waste of time! The main characters had such ridiculous, unnecessary back stories they were actually laughable. The MPs plotting against the prime minister were like pantomime baddies which was so disappointing seeing as David Haig is a great actor. The writers painting the unions as petty and power hungry putting spite before the good of the public, just pathetic! The whole show is just terrible!

... why did they do that
bjarias11 November 2021
... this show was pretty much from the beginning a kind of fantasy-political-crime-thriller... all long pushing boundaries of believability ... then in S2 E4 they really blew up what little was remaining in storytelling that just became absurd & pretty damn hard to recover from.
