Good movie
mzefabulous8 September 2019
The movie was good, but could have been better if the actress really looked like a teenager. She didn't look old but she didn't look like a teenager either.

"No One Really Knows Anyone!"
lavatch8 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This film started out with a good premise in the story of a nerd who is bullied in high school by the pretentious and mean-spirited cheerleaders. We then meet her ten years later after she is out on her own and away from her domineering and abusive mother. But then, the film takes a strange turn for both the audience and the main character, Vicky Patterson.

Vicky is working at a Big Box outlet store, and she has a deadbeat boyfriend. But at least she is away from her oppressive mom. But she makes the fateful decision to steal the identity of a co-worker at Big Box and return to high school, impersonating a character ten years her junior.

The film struggled to make it credible that in changing from Vicky Patterson to Caitlyn Sparks, she could possibly pull off such a stunt. The character motivation was especially vague. Vicky wasn't attempt to improve herself or even to get a sense of completion with earning a high school degree. We never see her study, and it was difficult to believe she would have passed any of her courses. Rather, she wanted to experience the glory of being the head cheerleader, bag a football star named Liam, and, even more improbably, she wanted to emulate her superficial mom!

As the film progressed, our early sympathetic response to Vicky's character disappeared rapidly. The cheerleaders at Glendale High welcomed her and befriended her. In return, Vicky sets up the head cheerleader, Maddy, for a broken ankle, so that she can take her place. The murders of her greasy boyfriend Darren and the real Caitlyn Sparks follow.

At one point in the film, Heather, one of the young women who is kind to Vicky/Caitlyn, begins to learn the truth about her new friend. With a sigh, Heather exclaims, "No one really knows anyone." Vicky/Caitlyn is an example of someone who really doesn't know herself.

Despite the apparent true story on which the film was based, the situation was never made plausible by the filmmakers. Vicky Patterson was living in a fantasy world, and she was shamed by her overachieving mother. She was also bullied by her high school peers. But her response to those circumstances was not to pull herself up by her bootstraps and try to excel. Rather, it was to revert to the dark side of her nature and become even worse than the people she loathed.

Surprisingly nice...

Well, I must admit flat out that this movie was actually better than I had anticipated it would be. Why? Well, given the movie's synopsis, then I wasn't really sold. But still, as it was a movie that I hadn't already seen and given the fact that I had a chance to watch it, I sat down to watch it. Of course I did.

And "Identity Theft of a Cheerleader" was actually an entertaining movie. Sure, it is the type of movie that you will watch once and never again, because the storyline just doesn't have enough solid contents to support more than a single viewing. But for that one time around, it wasn't actually too shabby of a movie.

The storyline was pretty straight forward and easily followed. It was a bit of an absurd storyline, sure, but it was entertaining enough for what it turned out to be. And the characters in the movie were nicely detailed and felt very much at home in the movie's plot.

It should be said that the acting performances in the movie was actually surprisingly good and spot on for a movie such as this. And that was definitely something that carried the movie a great long way. Now, it should also be pointed out that this movie was so enjoyable almost solely because of the performance put on by actress Maiara Walsh and the interesting character she portrayed.

Sure, "Identity Theft of a Cheerleader" is predictable to the core, but it makes for some guilty pleasure viewing that one time around watching it. And I must admit that I was taken aback with the movie, given it turned out to be a lot more entertaining and enjoyable than I had first anticipated. Just goes to prove that you shouldn't judge a movie by its cover.

My rating of this 2019 movie from writer Barbara Kymlicka and director Christie Will Wolf lands on a well-deserved six out of ten stars. If you get the chance to sit down to watch this movie, you should definitely do so.

This Is Based On A true Story
kupcr26 May 2020
I watched this LIFETIME movie for the first time and only just noticed lead actress Maiara Walsh, who played Vicky Patterson, is awesome as a villain! In this movie, her character is a 30 year old woman full of regret who takes it to the extreme and goes back to high school by stealing a cheerleader's identity, Caitlyn Sparks (Shelby Armstrong) therein allowing her the chance to hit the reset button on her life and finish up her last year of high school. Things take a turn for the worse as Vicky's life starts to unravel and murder ensues! Not bad, actually, for a LIFETIME movie.

I'm not Josie Grossie anymore!
LifetimeUncorkedPodcast8 September 2019
This 30ish year old returning to High School has CERTAINLY been kissed. (and then some.) If you're looking for Never Been Kissed with murder and cheerleading. Look no further.

Maiara Walsh finds a home at Lifetime and I hope to see her in more TV movies. She is great.

I expected the lead character to wake up from her bad dream ... which would have made for a much better ending
Ed-Shullivan12 November 2021
I must say that this story line was somewhat different from the typical Lifetime movie melodramas but how far this thirty year old wannabe cheerleader would go by impersonating a teenage high schooler to fulfill her (mothers) dreams and expectations was way over the top.

I watched it while recuperating from a bad cold laying on the couch, and I am not sure what gave me the bigger headache, my cold or the silly plot line of this made for TV movie. I just felt that the movie title "Identity Theft of a Cheerleader" warranted a curious watch and see attitude. So I watched, and I sneezed throughout the film, and I ended up with a bigger headache then before I watched the film.

I give this LifeTime film a paltry 3 out of 10 IMDB rating. And that's an atchoooooo!

good topic and environment
NijazBaBs29 January 2020
Environment is good because it is real and current compared to our real life. Topic is good because it is also real and current. Just some real life crimes and problems. But besides that two nothing special to see. I've watched movies with better graphics and murders, and this one is not that good. Bit too annoying and negative and dramatic. I expected more graphics, action, mystery, science.

Lifetime cheerleading
BandSAboutMovies23 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
During her senior year of high school, Vicky (Maiara Walsh, Zombieland) had to drop out and over the next decade, she's worked her way to rock bottom. Now, she wants to make her mother proud by stealing a teenager's identity and having the best senior year of her life, even if she has to take out anyone who gets in her way.

Writer Barbara Kymlicka was behind plenty of David DeCoteau films. This movie fits right into his made for TV look and it's directed by Christie Will Wolf.

Another chance at high school
phd_travel10 September 2019
The title isn't that accurate but premise is interesting and different from the run of the mill Lifetime thriller. A pretty high school drop out just laid off wants a redo of high school. She becomes head cheerleader and dates the popular football player. Ms Walsh looks pretty and is watchable and sympathetic. Not as predictable as the average Lifetime thriller.

Very exciting suspense film
ronniedanger29 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Great movie! Very suspenseful. We really got to see how Vicky felt deep inside. The only thing is the ending seemed kind of hurried. The gym scene at the end looked like a set whereas the rest of the scenes looked more like a real school. And while Vicky did get her come uppance, her mother only looked mildly annoyed as she had a drink and listened to the news report of her daughter in jail. Maybe this was showing the audience how little maternal instinct she had? Plus, there wasnt any final comment on Vicky other than her being insane in her jail cell. I thought surely there would be a scene with the prison psychiatrist. Very good overall.

Fantastic movie!!!
varaisy8 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty" is a copypasta based on a fan commentary about the popular animated TV series in response to its critics, though it is more often used to mock the pretentious and self-congratulatory manner fans talk about the show.

Great Movie!
mbqwerty15 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I love the movie! I loved every single minute of it! This is a film that I highly recommend! However, something I didn't like is that the ending went to fast. Vicky gets arrested by the police, then it cuts to her mom watching news coverage of her daughter's trial and then it cuts to Vicky in jail saying some baloney quote about energy and balls or somethin' like that. It seems like Lifetime likes to rush the endings on these types of movies. And of course, a majorty of these cheerleader movies have happy fairytale endings (which i'm not complaining about). Meanwhile, some of the actors playing the roles of high school students are too old to play 18 year olds but at the same time they look exactly like 18 year old high students. Anyway, my favorite scene was when Vicky opens the trunk door of her car and the camera reveals her former co-worker, the girl she stole the identity from, deceased with her eyes open...kinda creepy and sad since she was planning to return to school but fricking Vicky had to kill her in order to keep her fake identity. Overall, I recommend the movie. You won't be disappointed! P.S: The guy who plays Liam is so hot!
