In the beginning when Larrabee is telling Matthews the bandits descriptions. He says the height and weight and Mathews says "150, that puts them on the short side". Height determines shortness, not weight.
When a highway patrol officer encounters two women at a roadblock and soon discover that they are the wanted bandits they disarm him and take his car keys. They leave him stranded but make no effort to disable his radio. In a previous episode suspects take Dan Mathews at gun point and take his car keys. It is explained in that case that all highway patrol officers always carry an extra set of keys for just such a situation. This officer, however, had no spare key.
When the lady bandits are hiding in the brush close up shots show that they have two circular holes in the brush through they can watch Dan Mathews and the patrolman as they approach. Wider shots show no such openings in their brush cover.
When they steal the 1957 Mercury from the factory parking lot, they open the hood to jump the engine. But afterwards, they apparently start it with a key during the robbery. They should have had to still open the hood and jump it to start.
Dan Mathews and the patrolman pounce on the two lady bandits as they are hiding in the brush, pull them out and handcuff them. At no time, even when they are leading them away, did Dan or the officer take weapons from either woman. They were both armed with their own revolvers as well as the revolver they took from the patrolman at the roadblock.
