Mr. G decides to sell his beloved store to take it EZ. But it ain't that EZ. This episode is actually quite poignant, taking a few cues from DEATH OF A SALESMAN, as ole Gillis tries to sell himself to a modern supermarket chain as their next top manager. They don't want nothing to do with him. After all, he's nearing 50!
This is a scene that was re-done by many other tv sitcoms in the years ahead, but this is, by far, the best version.
Dobie comes to the rescue of his dear old dad... and there's some soul searching to do. Exceptionally written by Bud Nye, who wrote 16 episodes, and a must see for all us Dobie fans. Frank Faylen turns in one dynamic performance, perhaps the best of the entire series.
