Like old wheeler dealers
brookstm-603269 June 2019
Love this show, it's like wheeler dealers of old before Mike sold out to the Americans and shafted Ed.

Very good and amusing show

Saw this on Discovery channel and I'm totally hooked. The technical insights you get from the cars are really nice. The aspect of finding a really cheap car and the challenge of getting it back on the road is something that really appeals to me. Hopefully they continue for a good amount of seasons!

A proper car mechanics show.
craigparkeruk7 June 2019
Will and Gus are the ideal presenters for the back to basics show. It's a simple but genius format of buying a banger and getting it back on the road. Such an interesting duo make the show a pleasure to watch and a firm favourite in our house enjoyed by the six of us.

Top old car refurb show.
daj-9331211 August 2020
Like Wheeler Dealers series one!

Superb car refurb show as per title for bangers not the fancy stuff on WD ( which I still enjoy).

Will and Gus are two knowledgeable mechanics working on bottom of the market junk cars and making them useable and squeezing a profit out of them or trying to.

Great show.

Cars but...

Although it's about cars, these guy's optimism, positivity and the fact they're really likeable people makes this show so special. You just have to like them! And about their skills, well it looks like they really know their job.

The car show on telly!
mikebardsley-402386 September 2019
Like a few others I stumbled across Flipping Bangers whilst checking out what was on. Unfortunately it was series two already, so I'm now trying to watch the limited re-runs of series one to catch up. Blaze sort it out!!!

It reminds me of the early years of Mike Brewers 'Deals on wheels' not in concept, but in relatable content and great viewing automotive telly! Will and Gus come across as top blokes with great chemistry, who you'd happily buy a pint for whilst talking favourite cars from your childhood.

Hoping a third series is commissioned as this show really deserves greater exposure!

Just like us
kagey-2876926 July 2019
Unlike all other shows which happily spend a years wages on every car . These two are at the everyday blokes level , minimum money and basic tools and a will to figure it out with a very limited budget . What we end up with is a show which comes at most people level not trying to be something special . Great show and worth watching for their will to have a go !! Kings of the rattle cans

Passion for cars, discerning eye for a banger
stuarttdavies26 November 2020
Brill show, they're really enthusiastic about recovering and preserving interesting cars that would otherwise go in the crusher. The methods of cheap repairs are encouraging and informative for DIY car enthusiasts, restorers, repairers or improvers. Will keep eyes open, this must have been filmed locally. Keep going boys.

Just noticed on Porsche 924 episode, technical consultant is Paul Bracket, of 'thanks Paul' fame, Ed's mate in WD. Maybe bangers but not bodger's.

Flipping Bodgers
jezmoore14 July 2019
I enjoy car shows with this theme and yes it is watchable l know they are doing a quick cheap make over but my only critism is the lads apparent lack of mechanical engineering skills tool handling and general workshop practices. Well perhaps I shouldn't be too critical they are after all only a couple amateurs having a go

Me as a carmechanic am ashamed for these incompotent "carmechanics". They dont't know how to use tools and they don't know how to fix a car. Iff you buy a car from these guys prepare for a wreck

I think this show is a winner...
faldoc30 December 2020
I watched my first episode today, about the Morris Minor. My grandparents had one in Hong Kong, long ago.

I found the show reminiscent of the early Wheeler Dealers show, with a low starting budget.

I like the hosts, Gus and Will, who are pleasant and engaging.

Another car show added to my DVR record list...

Honest & Watchable

Great pair, well presented, informative. As others commented, similar to the early Wheeler Dealers, which is no longer something I personally enjoy.

Great, Real, Show, for once
pcengineerga14 May 2021
Exactly what I deal with when I can. All the other car shows are ignoring this elephant in the room. Coming from an engineering background including NASA, I can appreciate the technical and realism of this show. Im impressed, but it has a lot to do with my background. I revert to this mechanism when i dont have a job.contract and I need to make some money, but its ruthless.

down to earth cars and restorations
Cinema2kMendoza16 October 2021
Here the cars are basically , every day cars, and the way they fix the cars and the way they show the cars is good.so theres no garaque queens, but every day cars fixed in a real way, and many episodes focus in how sometimes a common car needs alot of help because the previous owner didnt care about it.

the lack of new episodes is the problem
klinkvonstalag14 December 2021
The lack of new episodes is the only problem with this show, that is following the formula of the begins of Wheelers Dealers: cheap, no-nonsense.

The choice of vehicle is unusually interesting. It really depicts what it can be do buy a cheap popular antique car, options on the table to fix issues.

There is no other show like this I know of these days.

Only bad thing is that there isn't more episodes.
sweetdrums28 December 2021
Absolute banger! Both presenters seem down to earth and like they really enjoy their job. No BS here, they say it as it is and admit when they cant fix something.

Get more episodes on the air please.

Love Flipping Bangers
dolyschaf14 September 2023
I know nothing about fixing cars but love this show. Gus and Will are totally likeable and I could watch this all day.

Three series in, please can we have more Flipping Bangers! Why this isn't on mainstream Channel 5 in the UK is beyond me, this is so much better than Wheeler Dealers, as the two guys Gus and Will come across as genuinely nice and knowledgeable guys, plus you want them to do well.

A truly enjoyable car show even for the layman with zero knowledge of how to fix cars. I'm sure that using a rattle can to do resprays might cause upset among the car industry but so what? Gus and Will are top blokes sharing their knowlege! More Flipping Bangers please!

Gearhead Banger heaven.
dm-6253919 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
After watching Wheeler Dealers, Flipping Bangers is, well, lets go for the lowest denomination in the auto market, bangers and take a bloody risk on it.

After dealers this is my favorite gear head show on Motor Trend.

Because for me , unlike my younger brothers.

I was the one born with no mechanical ability to fix anything.

This show is a educational as they fix and repair the cars which they acquired and then sell them of and give them a new home.

Gus and Will are a great a team as Mike and Elvis are.

I wish Motor Trend would show more seasons after Season Two.

All in all I recommend this show, if you are looking for a education in auto repair.

Unrealistic Costs

You can't buy an Audi TT that looks like that and actually runs for $1500....then you find exact parts you might need easily and pay little. Such BS

Let's be real
rtibbetts-2178418 May 2021
Love the show although I don't think I would ever purchase a vehicle painted with a roller however, that's just me.

Also, I can't believe two individuals in business together can always get along as well as it's portrayed on the show. How about an episode of outtakes or some real life squabbles.

Excellent Show Hosted by Two Wonderful Personalities
qnzjgpkj20 January 2024
There are plenty of car shows on TV, many of them very good indeed. This one focuses on the two hosts buying a car in serious need of help and trying to fix it, and certainly improve it in only five days.

The joy here is that huge amounts of money are not being spent and the finances are more realistic than in, for example, Wheeler Dealers. In that show it is blindingly obvious that, were the cost of labour included, no project would make other than a very large financial loss. Flipping Bangers is set in a basic garage. The first two series use a good garage with a proper ramp. The third series only has a rough garage with no ramp, and no concrete courtyard outside.

The big plus of this show is the personality of the two hosts. Will Trickett is a skilled welder and presents as an honest, straightforward man, a bit "rough round the edges". Gus Gregory is more urbane, but brings humour and giggles to the show. Both men are skilled in car-related tasks. They are, however, more like us normal amateur mechanics than in some other shows. They don't use computer diagnostics as normal, and certain high end tasks are delegated to other professionals, as is the case for normal amateur mechanics.

The interaction between the two men is a major boon and they clearly get on well together, though they are very different from each other - rather like the case in many very good marriages. The cars used in the shows are what most people can or did own, and they are definitely in the lower quadrant of affordability. Difficulties and mistakes aren't glossed over and the show doesn't aim for the sort of showground perfection one sees on Chasing Classic Cars, where the focus is always on perfectionism and, consequently, obscene amounts of money being lavished on what are, ultimately, machines designed to transport people.

I sometimes wish that their selling adverts were given longer to run, as the selling prices achieved are often lower than the cars would fetch given a bit longer to sell, in the first two series in particular.

These are minor gripes, though, the show is a joy and the two hosts are wonderfully entertaining and come across as really nice people with no "showbiz" affectation.

I'd recommend this show to anyone who has ever tried working on cars, or anyone, in fact, who is interested in cars, engineering or related topics.
