This is the episode I show people to introduce them to the series
CubsandCulture8 October 2019
This is a well rounded episode that is highly representative of the series at its best. It uses an outlandish premise for a lot of laughs and even a few scares. It effortlessly connects the central plot of the season to an ongoing character arch. It has just the right amount of brotherly angst. Really this a truly special episode.

Apart from that the time loop concept puts a lot of pressure on the director and editor to keep the same basic scene feeling the same and yet different. Manners gets a lot out of the diner location. This is one of the best cinematic episodes. Just great.

Simply the best of Supernatural
bhester08063 January 2021
There may be better episodes in different aspects but over all this episode embodies everything that supernatural is. It's funny, it's clever, it's well acted and most importantly dang entertaining.

It's Groudhog day
mm-3920 February 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I love how 'Supernatural' can create a parody and turn it upside down. Sam, just like in the movie 'Ground Hog Day' is reliving the same Tuesday over and over. The episode 'Mystery Spot' pays many homages to the movie 'Ground Hog Day'. One example is Sam catching the Tobasco sauce bottle in the diner. The character Dean even uses a reference towards the movie 'Ground Hog Day'. A funny episode, watching Sam's frustration over the circumstance and how goofy and annoying Dean can be. There is some dark humor in this episode regarding what happens to Dean! A hug plot twist with a character from the past and what is going to happen in the future. 9 out of 10 Still the best show on TV. Better than Jericho.

Reliving the worst part of your life over and over
Red_Identity9 September 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Mystery Spot remains the best episode of Season 3 and one of the best of the entire series. It's ability to mix comedy and drama is incredible. In it's first half, it is hilarious, yet looking at it from a morbid sense, it is also completely heart-breaking.

Sam knows what will happen in the future and he has to live with experiencing the death of his brother, not one, but countless number of times. The episode shows just how much Sam will need Dean once he is gone, and the way the episode transitions from a comedy point of view to a very serious side is magnificent. A must-see for any Supernatural fan!

The Time Loop
claudio_carvalho29 August 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Dean and Sam head to a place in Broward County called Mystery Spot, a place where the laws of physics have no meaning, to investigate the disappearance of Professor Dexter Hasselback, On Tuesday morning, Sam wakes up listening Asia in the radio; has breakfast with Dean, and while going to Mystery Spot, Dean dies. Sam wakes up again on Tuesday morning and the same situations repeat over and over again, but he is not able to avoid the death of Dean that dies in one hundred different ways. The Winchester brothers realize that they are trapped in a time loop living the same day and apparently with no way out. When Sam notes that a costumer in the bar called Ed Coleman has just changed his dressing, he discovers that a Trickster is fooling around with him.

""Mystery Spot" is an episode visibly inspired in "Groundhog Day" with the brothers trapped in the same day. The story is engaging and entertaining, and the deaths of Dean are hilarious. My vote is nine.

Groundhog Day!
LeeRob718 December 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Great episode! 9/10. SPOILER ALERT! So in this episode Sam is forced to watch Dean die in multiple, creative ways when he is plunged into a time loop by the Trickster that they encountered in Season 2. Really interesting take on the Groundhog Day principle, which ties in well with the Supernatural story as you see a change in Sam as he becomes more ruthless, determined and detached from others in trying to change Dean's fate. Some fantastic acting from Jared Padalecki as you can clearly see Sam's frustration growing as he is forced to relive the same day over and over. Probably one of my favourite episodes upto this point in the show!

It's Groundhog Day...the Supernatural way!
hotcountry_chick3 May 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Summary: It's Groundhog Day...the Supernatural way! *** This review may contain spoilers ***

We've all heard of the premise: a character is forced to relive the same day over and over again, with unpleasant (to put it mildly) consequences. The short lived Daybreak covered this very idea, with not exactly the best results. Supernatural tackles the plot line, with hilarious, but also heartbreaking results.

It's Tuesday, a seemingly normal one for Sam and Dean. Until Dean is shot and killed by a disgruntled shop owner. As his brother dies in his arms, Sam is suddenly jolted back to where he was before: in the brothers' motel room, with Dean jokingly lip synching to Asia's "Heat of the Moment". And so it continues. For 100 days in a row, Sam must relive his brother die in numerous ways, at first tragic, but soon quite hilarious (including one hilarious moment involving a seemingly innocent dog, watch and you'll find out for yourself). Eventually, Sam manages to convince the skeptical Dean that he is reliving the same day, and discover that a familiar face is the cause of the mayhem.

"Mystery Spot" is one of my favorite episodes, hilarious and touching at the same time. Jeremy Carver (set to be showrunner, replacing Sera Gamble) has written some of the funniest moments in Supernatural history, creating the most imaginative, and hilarious, methods of killing Dean possible. Half way through the episode I was laughing hysterically! Jensen Ackles uses his typical slapstick physical humour to his advantage. I've commented on how amazing Ackles is at the sad, emotional moments (see "AHBH II", "No Rest for the Wicked", and "Swan Song", to name a few) but he is also great at making the audience laugh, and "Mystery Spot" is no exception. Jared Padalecki is equally solid. Sam's reactions to his brother's deaths, especially the first and final tragic moment, are amazing. When he holds Dean's limp body and whimpers, "I'm supposed to wake up", you share his loss. As the episode reaches its climax, and Sam is begging for Dean's life, Padalecki demonstrates the brotherly love, the intense bond shared by the brothers, in three simple words, the same echoed by Dean in "AHBL II": "he's my brother." These three words sum up how the brothers feel for each other, that love which brings loyal viewers back for more.

Amazing episode, easy 9.

I wonder what does Sam do with the rules by his bed!
zombiehigh189 November 2011
Warning: Spoilers
On"Tall tales' I mentioned I'm not really crazy about the Trickster and this is why.

Sam gets trapped in something like a ground hog day with Dean dying everyday no matter how Sam tries to prevent it. To make matters worse Dean, who is supposed to help him wakes up every day not knowing what happened and Sam is forced to fill him in over and over again. On the hundredth Tuesday Sam finally finds out that the Trickster is behind that. On trapping the Trickster, he admits that he is doing that out of revenge on the boys who tried to kill him before. But when Sam threatens to kill him, he sends the boys on a Wednesday where Dean dies permanently this time. Having to suffer for months without Dean, Sam is turned into an obsessed version of John trying to get revenge for his brother. When he finally captures the Trickster, he tells Sam that it is a lesson for him so that he would stop trying to save his brother as Dean is his weakness and "The bad guys know it too". However Sam pleads with him to bring Dean back, promising him that they won't track him. Seeing that it's pointless to make Sam understand, he sends Sam on another Wednesday where Dean is alive again.

What is annoying me about this episode, is that "The bad guys" are always convincing Sam that Dean is his weakness and that he will be the death of him. While we all know that Dean is Sam's guarding angel and if it wasn't for him Sam would have been killed several times already, God knows he already did. Besides, Why is the Trickster so concerned about helping Sam if he calls that help, last time I checked they were not face-book pals! And now thanks to him Sam will be scarred for life remembering all those torturous months without his brother. (And for Sam to see Dean die this many times without ever being able to stop it, is just too cruel) But I believe this episode is a turning point in Sam's persona and will sure have its massive effect on his future calls.

The writing of the episode was magnificent, I was worried that would be boring doing the same day over and over again but thank God I was wrong. Dean's deaths were hilarious and Jared's performance was more than great, Applaud to you Jared.

My favourite part was,(and I don't know if any one noticed, because I didn't at first) When Sam was eating in a motel room after Dean died for what seemed permanently, We can see that he bought his brother his Bacon cheeseburger even though there was no Dean to eat it, That was just so so sad.

Huge Favor to Ask Mr. Kripke...
jbs6422 February 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Mystery Spot...great episode...but once again we must give homage to the X-Files episode "Monday". Nevermind Groundhog Day! The only complaint I have is you spoiled the surprise by having Richard Speight, Jr.'s name in the beginning credits. Once I saw his name I said "That's how they're going to pull this off. They're going to put the trickster behind it all!" I loved the idea but I would have loved it more if I were SURPRISED! And one more thing. Stop killing off all the cool characters. Let's all have a moment of silence for those that are gone too soon...Ash (Chad Lindberg)...Scott Carey (Richard deKlerk)...Casey (Sasha Barrese)...Meg (Nicki Aycox)...Gordon Walker (Sterling K. Brown)...and most recently...Henrickson (Charles Malik Whitfield)...and Peter DeLuise! How could you kill off Peter DeLuise! The Dom's son! Shame on you! Have you no respect! You could make up for these "poor" decisions by bringing back...Jenny (Christine Chatelain) and Kate (Anne Openshaw) and while you're at it, bring back Det. Diana Ballard a/k/a the great Linda Blair. And my final comment is the character Bela is really coming along, especially in Jus in Bello episode. She really is mean. And who doesn't love Katie Cassidy? Just being David Cassidy's daughter makes her royalty in my book. Keep up the great work. I enjoy this show so much...can you tell?

The dumbest episode of supernatural so far
aarongnr13 November 2019
How to cram 6 months of Sam-going-bad character development into 1 episode, just to then completely delete it all again. Might have been enjoyable to watch, but its insanely stupid in context.

I can watch Dean die forever

Warning: Spoilers
Absolutely hilarious and Dean at his best. The "you think a man has control of his bladders, come on" kills me. Also so sad to see this character change so much from this goofy funny guy. The trickster is the best thing in the show, giving us the best eps. The whole he finally dies thing and 6 months is kinda blah tho.

Absolutely Hilarious

I have watched this show for 15 years. I do a complete rewatch at least once a year and after all this time and so many views, this episode still makes me laugh.

Watch it for yourself, you'll most likely love it. Sammy gets stuck in a time loop.

Myself

Warning: Spoilers
To be honest this episode really reminds of one that I've saw in The X Files, called: Monday.

It's just the same thing. repeating every day until Mulder (in this case Sam) find the way out of it. In fact almost every episode of this series reminds me a lot of the X Files. It's like a copy but in this case with horrible acting and bad scripts. Don't worry I still enjoy watching this show.

it's just that now it needs a little bit of more creativity. The episode counts with comedy moustly of the time, black humor. Almost like Itchy & Scratchy type but it's still good. Don't get me wrong.

Yay! The Trickster is back!
rimailbox13 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Hahaa. I wonder when I can see him again, since Tall Tales because everybody know he still alive, and Mystery Spot coming, it was so "C'mon, seriously, Dean is dead just like that, it's impossible" , then the mistery begin..

I know Sam so grumpy because he should live the same day hundreds of times, but he is cute! This episode so funny because of teasing Sam is my favorite, and every single Dean's death ironically the funny thing too, it shouldn't be like that, I also get annoyed because "Wednesday" is worse than "Tuesday". But when he begging on The Trickster to stop it with his puppy eyes. Aw.
