Can anyone stop RuPaul Charles (‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’) from snatching 6th Emmy for Best Reality Host?
Few things are certain in life, but RuPaul Charles (“RuPaul’s Drag Race“) winning the Emmy for Best Reality Host seems to be one of them. The influential superstar has dominated this category five years in a row (2016-20), and is now the odds-on front-runner to snatch trophy #6 at the 2021 Emmys. Last year’s fifth victory, presented by a disembodied arm because of Covid-19, was notable in that RuPaul broke the category record of four wins previously set by “Survivor” emcee Jeff Probst (2008-11).
The recent 13th season of “Drag Race” broke ground by being one of the first TV shows to film during the coronavirus pandemic, under the strictest of safety protocols. RuPaul and the judges were separated by plastic barriers throughout the season, while the contestants lived in their own social bubble, separate from the crew. One by one, Ru eliminated the queens each week until he named the...

“The Masked Singer” stayed steady in ratings on Wednesday, but it again wasn’t enough to topple NBC and its “Chicago” shows. Ranking below NBC and Fox last night, CBS and ABC finished in another primetime ratings tie among adults 18-49. Spanish-language networks Univision and Telemundo were tied just beneath those two. On CBS, the Tiffany Haddish-hosted “Kids Say the Darndest Things” dropped 600,000 viewers from last week’s premiere episode. NBC was first in ratings with a 0.9 rating/6 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and in total viewers with an average of 6.5 million, according to preliminary numbers. “Chicago Med” at 8 p.m. posted a 0.9/6 and 6.8 million total viewers. At 9, “Chicago Fire” drew a 0.9/6 and 6.9 million total viewers. “Chicago P.D.” at 10 received a 0.8/6 and 5.8 million total viewers. Fox was second in ratings with a 0.8/5 and in viewers with 3.3 million. “The Masked Singer” at 8 landed a 1.0/8 and 4.4 million total viewers. At...

It was time for a throwback episode at Fox’s WWE Friday Night SmackDown, as some of the league’s greatest matches and rivalries were relived in a trip down the archives. The memories were good for an 0.6, which led the night’s demo wars.
Close behind on ABC was perennial Friday winner Shark Tank, which was down a tick to 0.5 on the night. That slight hiccup didn’t affect the trailing 20/20, which was humming at an 0.4 for its story on a toddler’s murder.
At CBS, a rerun of Kids Say The Darndest Things took over from the departed MacGyver and drew an 0.3. That dragged down the rest of the network’s lineup, as the season finale of Magnum P.I. scored just an 0.4 and 4.8 million viewers, both numbers taking the down elevator.
The night-closing Blue Bloods was also affected, drawing an 0.4. Although the show had the night’s largest total audience,...

Premiere on new network settles for 0.3 among adults 18-49 Who could have seen this coming? CBS’ premiere of “Kids Say the Darndest Things” had pretty bad ratings — just like the show formerly got on ABC. Truly Original, the Banijay-backed producer behind the Ink Master and Swamp People franchises, has been dipping its toes into new areas of unscripted television with a remake of a British panel show for The CW and is now working on a hybrid animated series.
Glenda Hersh and Steven Weinstock, Co-Presidents and Co-CEOs of the company, which also produces The Real Housewives of Atlanta, told Deadline that they have received a pilot order from one of the broadcast networks for a new type of unscripted format.
It marks the latest producer to move into this new area after Kids Say The Darndest Things exec producer Eric Schotz told Deadline that it was developing a mix of non-scripted comedy entertainment and animation – a genre that was previously unaffordable in the non-scripted world.

Tiffany Haddish-fronted variety series Kids Say The Darndest Things is set to premiere on CBS in May – coming a year after ABC canceled the reboot.
It’s an example of a network saving a show co-produced by its sister studio, something that is much more common on the scripted side.
