All right, Hatchet Army! More casting news has come our way for the third entry in the bloody saga of Victor Crowley and his unquenchable thirst for bloody and violent vengeance. Read on for the details.
From the Press Release
The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively announced additional talent joining the ensemble cast of Bj McDonnell’s Hatchet 3, the third entry in the popular slasher franchise produced by Dark Sky Films and ArieScope Pictures. Principal photography is set to roll on the hotly-anticipated threequel outside of new Orleans tomorrow, May 30, 2012.
The trade reports Zach Galligan, best-known from his roles in genre classics Gremlins, Waxworks, and their respective sequels, will play Sheriff Fowler, the quiet Louisiana precinct of Jefferson Parish's hard-nosed head of police. The ninth film in the Hellraiser film series is set to move to DVD shelves October 18th and now the first trailer for this feature is available. Actor Doug Bradley has played Pinhead, the central antagonist, in the previous eight films, but he declined to participate in this latest film, titled Hellraiser: Revelations, after reading the script (Bradley). The short shoot time of two weeks also signals a possible rush to complete the film by Puzzlebox Films, which has no other titles attached to its name. Horror fans and Hellraiser fans can take a look at the clip here, which involves a late night at a bar, a bum, a box, and a bumbling line or two.
As well, Dimension Extreme will distribute this title. Other films released from this American film distributor include several sequels such as Feast II: Sloppy Seconds, Feast III: The Happy Finish, Pulse 2: Afterlife,...

Another week in October, another bounty crop of horror DVDs and Blu-rays. This week we have home entertainment from recent theatrical releases of nightmares of the mind as well as re-releases of classic and campy horror, all with boatloads of extras.
Then there are other horror titles that are being re-released on Blu-ray or in packs for double dipping. On top of that, horror offerings from Asia, past seasons of TV shows, manga, novels, and even video games are all vying for our pocketbooks. And we still have four more weeks of October to go.
Next year October needs to begin in August.
Human Centipede: First Sequence
Directed by Tom Six
Human Centipede: First Sequence (review) was a sensation ever since its first mention. Stephen Colbert even talked about it at the 2010 Emmys Awards broadcast! The premise cannot be simpler. Two pretty American girls are on a road trip through Europe.

It's a long standing tradition in Hollywood of course to play it safe rather than risk making something completely original. Sequels? Remakes? Movies based on old TV shows or even toys? Yeah, you know what I'm talking about. Many is the time we've all rolled our eyes at the notion of a favorite film being needlessly sequelized but the very bottom of the sequel barrel is the straight-to-dvd kind.
Over at Moviefone Kevin Polowy has assembled a list of 15 Ludicrous Straight-to-dvd Sequels That Actually Exist. Some aren't all that surprising. The kids' video market seems to have lots of these so Lady and the Tramp 2: Scamp's Adventure and Dr. Doolittle: Million Dollar Mutts (actually the fifth in the series) don't completely blindside me. On the other hand, did the world really need National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation 2: Cousin Eddie's Island Adventure with Randy Quaid boosted to headliner? The biggest...

Who here remembers the 1986 metal-driven horror classic Trick or Treat starring Gene Simmons, Ozzy Osborne, and Skippy from "Family Ties"? Anyone? Pulse 2 and 3 director Joel Soisson remembers it well. In fact, he can't forget it because ... well ... he was the writer/producer of it! There's been bit of talk about a potential remake, and Soisson spoke a little about it today.
Moviehole caught up with Joel to get a quick update after one of their readers asked editor-in-chief Clint Morris if there was any news.
"I'm amazed how many contacts, emails and letters I get from that movie. More than all my other films combined," Soisson tells the site. "At the time we all wrote it off as a fun little confection that wouldn't be remembered past its first Halloween weekend. Strange business we're in. So yeah, I am actually kind of interested in a remake. Problem is, like...

**Note: This will be at the top for a bit; new stories will appear below!** It was the best of times, it was the worst of times; it was the age of remakes -- also known as the age of foolishness; it was the epoch of bad, it was the epoch of incredible; it was the season of fright, it was the season of dumb; it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair -- and man, did we have a lot of it; we had everything before us, we had nothing before us; some flicks took us directly to heaven, others took us the other way. The year was 2008, and it was pretty memorable.

DVD Links: Release Dates | New Dvds | Reviews | RSS Feed Iron Man Obviously the release of the week is Paramount's Iron Man, which hits DVD, 2-Disc DVD and Blu-ray today. It seems like so long ago that I reviewed the Blu-ray version but I keep to my high marks and I actually found the film more enjoyable at home and was able to find the second half slightly more entertaining as is usually the case when I find something relatively dumb in theaters, dumb is just easier to swallow at home and the climax of Iron Man, come on, let's face it, is pretty dumb. The Blu-ray comes with a decent handful of special features, most of which can also be found on the 2-Disc DVD. I will warn you of one thing though, I have heard folks have been having trouble with their Blu-ray review copies...

It's almost that time again, and this week we have one of our personal favorites here at Qe dropping. It's The Vanguard and you've probably seen our interview with writer/director Matthew Hope and our review, and we can't recommend this one enough. It's post apocalyptic, well shot, and has a great little storyline. Next is another Pa flick, Pulse 2, which doesn't actually look very good, but regardless, it'll still be watched. Then we have Chapter 27, the Jared Leto starrer about the killing of John Lennon. I know agentorange is looking forward too this one, The Mindscape of Alan Moore. Lastly, a group of UK teens deals with a crazy drifter in Summer Scars. Trailers, synopsis, and amazon links after the break.

It's Street Scene weekend here in San Diego, which means this Woman is out dancing in the streets to an eclectic mix of music with an even more diverse crowd of people, so this Weekly Wrap-up for September 13-19, 2008, is going to be a tad abbreviated. But, after looking over the stories of what transpired during that period, there doesn't seem to be a very large quantity of stuff to rehash anyway.

"Pulse 2: Afterlife", a direct-to-video sequel to "Pulse", is just around the corner as it is scheduled to be outed in DVD on September 30, 2008. To be distributed by Dimension Extreme, the horror thriller movie picks up its sequel story right where the first film left off.
In the follow-up film, it will be seen that the world has been changed forever by the invading ghosts coming via wireless Internet. Mankind is on the brink of extinction, many cities are now deserted by its citizen and technology involving anything electrical has been destroyed to stop the spirits from taking over the world. When all hope seem to be lost, two divorced parents are forced to go inside this chaotic world to find their missing daughter.
Giving a preview to how the terror comes to be this time, a series of images from the Phil Joanou-scripted film has also been put forward.

After Comic-Con we know what's on every horror fan's mind: When will we see more from the Pulse franchise?!
Today Dimension Extreme released this clip from the upcoming direct-to-video sequel, and I am pleased to say it's a bit creepy. Well ... at least this quick clip wasn't beating the message of technologically spawned isolation into our heads over and over.
Pulse 2: Afterlife, directed by Joel Soisson (Maniac Cop 3), picks up where the first film left off. Cities and technology have been abandoned, but some survivors are still willing to risk metallic tasting death to find lost loved ones. This first Pulse sequel will be in stores on September 30th with a third film following sometime next year.

This afternoon Dimension Extreme sent over the first batch of stills from Pulse 2: Afterlife, which make me think that Venom might be making a cameo in the film. Directed by Joel Soisson, the film is slated to hit retailers everywhere on September 30th. The world has been reshaped by the invasion of ghosts via the wireless internet. Cities are deserted, technology has been destroyed and the few remaining human beings eschew anything electrical in order to avoid a confrontation with the soulless ghosts that now wander the planet. Most of the ghosts are doomed to a repetitive loop of something they did while they were still despairing humans (a man repeatedly hangs himself, for example), but there are some ghosts so locked in denial, they do not know they are dead. They continue to haunt their homes, wrapped in fear that their souls will soon be torn from them.

The American remake of Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Kairo was one of the hardest of the Japanese remakes to sit through. It was akin to being stuck in a dark, grey room while listening to a dull lecture on how technology was isolating people. All the while someone would be flashing pictures of people on their cellphones at you and repeating the phrase "death would taste like metal."
While Pulse (review) was heavy-handed, it never really expanded on what life would be like without all of the technology we've come to love and depend on today. That's where Pulse: Afterlife comes into play!
