Huckleberry Finn : Tom, what's 'manners'?

Tom Sawyer : Manners is something that, eh, parents thought up to keep us from havin' fun.
Tom Sawyer : Well, highwaymen are the best type of robbers, so I guess we'll be highwaymen. We'll stop stages, kill the people and take the money.

Ben Rogers : Do we have to kill the people?

Tom Sawyer : Didn't I tell you? That's the way it's in the book. 'Course we do! 'Cept the ones we want for ransom.

Huckleberry Finn : Ransom? What's that?

Tom Sawyer : Well, I don't know, exactly, but that's what all the books says, so we gotta do it. We'll take some, and hold 'em for ransom. I reckon it means, tie 'em up and wait till their dead.

Sam Davis : Sounds like a lot of bother to me, means they'd have to be guarded and fed and stuff. Why can't we take a club and ransom them straight off?

Tom Sawyer : Because it's not in the books, that's why!
Huckleberry Finn : Tom, what about the women, do we kill them too?

Tom Sawyer : 'Course not! We take them captive. The women are always beautiful and they fall in love with us and never wanna leave.

Huckleberry Finn : Ugh, I don't like that part, Tom.

Tom Sawyer : Oh, it's not that bad, we keep 'em around to cook and clean for us.

Huckleberry Finn : Oh, I reckon we can make some use of them, then.
Tom Sawyer : [to Huck] You know they've been lookin' for ya, the widow's powerful sad.
