George Lucas’ Star Wars became a worldwide phenomenon upon release. The sci-fi epic was set in a galaxy far, far away and followed Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo in their journey to vanquish the Empire led by Darth Vader. The original film released in 1977 was known for its groundbreaking special effects and experience.
Though the films were meant largely for children, the second film of the original trilogy Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back was notably darker than the rest. The leading characters face significant losses, which is not traditional for an epic film of this scale. However, the makers reportedly felt one scene was too intense for their younger viewers and left it on the floor.

‘Joker’ (2019) was initially meant to be a standalone film without sequels. However, Warner Bros. planned for it to inaugurate DC Black, a series of darker, more experimental films separate from the DC Extended Universe. Director Todd Phillips expressed interest in a sequel despite the original intention.
By November of 2019, the sequel was confirmed in development, and in 2023 Gunn confirmed that ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ will not be a part of the mainline Dcu, it will instead be released under ‘Elseworlds’ label, consistent with Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’ franchise.
The cast of the upcoming ‘Joker’ is clear. Joaquin Phoenix portrays Arthur Fleck, also known as The Joker, a mentally troubled criminal with a clown-inspired persona. Lady Gaga stars as Harleen Quinzel, aka Harley Quinn, an asylum inmate who becomes obsessed with Arthur. Zazie Beetz plays Sophie Dumond, Arthur’s former neighbor, and a single mother. There are a lot of stages a development house goes through when making a video game, and not following each one of them perfectly can ultimately result in the title becoming a failure. This is something that Gearbox Software, the makers of the Borderlands series has always kept in mind, and is also the reason why they have a dedicated “Truth Team” assigned to make sure one particular step is being followed to the tooth

Farmer Wants A Wife cast member Brandon Rogers recently spilled some tea ahead of the Season 2 finale on Fox, including an intimate scene that happened which he would love to redo. So, what did Brandon have to say?
Farmer Wants A Wife Season 2 Has Been Leading Up To The Final Choices
The final episode of Farmer Wants A Wife Season 2 is all about the farmers making their final choices. Each farmer has narrowed down the potential candidates to two remaining women. However, the hard part isn’t over yet. Along with Brandon Rogers, the rest of the farmers must ultimately decide on the one woman they want to give their all to.
At the end of the day, by this point in the season, each farmer has gathered as much information as they possibly can. They have spent weeks narrowing down their choices. On top of that, they have also...

The dichotomy of One Piece can make anyone balk. On the one hand, you have the World Government, fraught with Celestial Dragons, the most corrupt and ruthless people alive. And on the other hand, you have pirates, some of whom are trustworthy, but the others are no less evil than the nobles.
So, who do you choose as the rulers of the world? When no side has the correct answer, you simply have to choose the lesser of the two evils. This explains why even a corrupt body like the World Government has some morally upright people working for it: Garp, Sengoku, Kuzan, and Kuma are some examples.
But who draws the line between bearable and unbearable evil? How could Garp let Ace die in front of his eyes by the very government he serves? According to a theory, he, too, was forced to choose the lesser of the two evils.

"Oh, they've encased him in carbonite. He should be quite well protected, if he survived the freezing process, that is," quips C-3Po after Han Solo (Harrison Ford) is frozen alive in a slab of carbonite in "The Empire Strikes Back." It is a memorable scene, as it is preceded by Leia's (Carrie Fisher) declaration of love for Han, to which he replies with the characteristically suave, brilliantly ad-libbed "I know." The frozen Han is eventually handed over to Jabba the Hutt, whose lair is later infiltrated by Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and gang to rescue their friend from his frozen state in "Return of the Jedi."
This is not the only instance of a person being carbon-frozen in the "Star Wars" universe. Although the process was widely used to encase and preserve transport materials (such as gaseous substances), it was often utilized to transfer sentient beings. Even Anakin Skywalker...

At the beginning of David Lynch's 1984 adaptation of "Dune," Princess Irulan (Virginia Madsen) narrates directly to the camera, laying out the mythology of Frank Herbert's psychedelic universe as concisely as she can. She talks about the Pashisah Emperor Shaddam IV, the valuable spice Melange, the planet Arrakis, the Fremen, and the foretold coming of a Messiah. "A beginning," she says, "is a very delicate time." Her sentiment is reflected by the filmmakers, who have their work cut out for them visualizing everything Irulan talks about.
In Denis Villeneueve's 2024 adaptation of the same text -- "Dune: Part Two" -- Princess Irulan is played by Florence Pugh, and she, too, finds a beginning to be a very delicate time. One of the first times audiences see Irulan in Villeneueve's version, she is likewise dictating the events of the film, this time into a strange cylindrical dictaphone. You don’t have to go too far into the biographies of bad boy New Hollywood directors to find examples of impropriety. William Friedkin tossing around poor Linda Blair for The Exorcist. Francis Ford Coppola going full Kurtz for Apocalypse Now. Paul Schrader doing… well, Paul Schrader things. But there’s one guy who doesn’t fit the bill, despite palling around with the others: George Lucas.
For better or worse, the soft-spoken and intellectual Lucas doesn’t seem to push his actors to extremes. And yet, that’s exactly what had to happen for perhaps the most upsetting scene in Lucas’s oeuvre, the slaughter of the Jedi younglings in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.

Sherlock Holmes is a character that has been iterated and reiterated for every living generation and a few dead ones as well. The character has been written in short stories, novels, films, TV, video games, and even comic books. No matter which direction you kick a can, you will likely hit someone who knows Sherlock Holmes and has their own version of them as “Their Sherlock.” For me, Guy Richie’s take on the pipe-smoking sleuth is the one that gets me the most excited about solving mysteries.
In particular, the first installment in the two-part series (with a long-delayed third potentially on the way) is a work of film that I rewatch often and am endlessly impressed by. Welcome to the Scene 2 Seen Podcast. I am Valerie Complex, an associate editor and film writer at Deadline.
As schedules go, they could not record together, so we’re having another double episode today, but this time with Origin director Ava DuVernay and the film’s star Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor.
Origin is based on Isabel Wilkerson’s 2020 bestseller Caste: The Origin of Our Discontents and tracks the Pulitzer Prize winner’s creative and personal journey over several continents through grief, revelation and the evils of historical stratification. The film draws parallels between historical and modern-day oppression and persecution across the world. By weaving global threads of cruelty and dehumanization together, it underscores the timeless – and timely – dangers of extremist ideology and leaders who exploit prejudice.
King Richard Oscar nominee Ellis-Taylor plays Wilkerson, and she’ll also be featured in Netflix/Lee Daniels’ film The Deliverance opposite Andra Day and Glenn Close,...

During the spring of 2023, comedian and actor Rickey Smiley appeared on Pro Football Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe's show "Club Shay Shay" to talk about his career, and shocked comedy film fans everywhere when he claimed that he was originally cast as the pimp Money Mike in the final film of the "Friday" trilogy, "Friday After Next." The film was his feature acting debut, but Smiley would eventually play the role of the robber Santa Claus with Katt Williams portraying Money Mike. Williams had been an established comic since the 1990s, but "Friday After Next" was his breakthrough acting role that helped put him on the map before "Wild 'n Out" made him a household name.
A wholly original comedic voice with an untouchable ability to bring honesty to even the most flamboyant characters, when Katt Williams is cast in a role ... it feels like it was written for him.

Hello, and welcome to the Scene 2 Seen Podcast. I am Valerie Complex, an associate editor and film writer at Deadline.
Today, for the final episode of 2023 (!), we’re talking to director-writer Cord Jefferson and producer Jermaine Johnson about their latest project American Fiction, which won the TIFF Audience Award. The film stars Jeffrey Wright, Tracee Ellis Ross, Issa Rae, Sterling K. Brown, Erika Alexander and John Ortiz.
American Fiction follows Thelonious “Monk” Ellison (Wright), a respected author and professor of English literature. But his impatience with his students’ cultural sensitivities is threatening his academic standing, while his latest novel is failing to attract publishers; they claim Monk’s writing “isn’t Black enough.” One night, in a fit of spite, Monk concocts a pseudonymous novel embodying every Black cliché he can imagine. His agent submits it to a major publisher who immediately offers the biggest advance Monk’s ever seen.

"Star Trek: The Next Generation" was a pretty unusual job for classically trained theater performer Patrick Stewart, but it was one that he took very seriously from the beginning. By the time he got around to season 6 and had really gotten to know and love the world of "Star Trek," he took his performance even more seriously, but there was one season 6 episode that required even more dedication and some pretty dark research. In the second part of the two-part episode "Chain of Command," Picard is taken captive by the Cardassians and is tortured by Gul Madred (David Warner). Stewart was already pretty focused on the episode because of his lifelong appreciation for Warner's work, but as a member of Amnesty International for years before coming to "Star Trek," he was even more concerned about making sure the torture aspects of the episode were accurate and respectful to torture survivors.

The "Star Trek" movie franchise was almost a one-and-done fiasco. Paramount had the highest of hopes when they released "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" on December 7, 1979, and, at first, it appeared as though their commercial expectations would be exceeded. The film scored the biggest opening of the year with a gross of $11.9 million (slightly better than the openings for "Alien" and "Moonraker"), but mixed reviews and ho-hum word of mouth (particularly from non-fans) kept it from being the runaway blockbuster it needed to be given its then exorbitant $44 million budget. It wound up being the fourth highest grossing film of 1979 behind "Kramer vs. Kramer," "The Amityville Horror" and "Rocky II").
The film's primary problem was its length and lack of action. At 132 minutes, Robert Wise's movie kind of lumbered; there are long, reverent shots of the U.S.S. Enterprise that, for many in the audience, quickly went from awe-inspiring to tedious.

It's almost Halloween, so of course we here at Scariest Scene Ever have to go back to the Og, the one that started it all, John Carpenter's immortal classic, "Halloween." This might sound like hyperbole, but I firmly believe "Halloween" is a perfect movie, from top to bottom. Carpenter and company were able to conjure up some sort of dark magic with that film, creating the ultimate experience in horror. While years of sequels and reboots have altered the shape of Michael Myers, the original incarnation of the character — a soulless, motiveless being who kills for seemingly no reason at all — remains terrifying. In 2022, "Prey" rejuvenated the long-suffering Predator franchise, becoming the best-reviewed in the series since the original all the way back in 1987. Set in the Comanche Nation around 300 years prior to the first "Predator," the film follows Naru (Amber Midthunder) as she battles a Yautja in the forests of the Great Plains in which she was raised. And frankly, it made for one hell of a hunter vs. hunter showdown.
Following decades of lackluster and often abject "Predator" movies, director Dan Trachtenberg delivered a fresh take on the source material with "Prey." This time, the technically advanced extraterrestrial faced off against a warrior armed merely with a hatchet and a comprehensive knowledge of her homeland's topography. Its tense action and visceral tone made the film a hit when it debuted on Hulu. But there was one action sequence that, as Trachtenberg told /Film at the time, never made it into the final cut.

Zack Snyder’s Dceu was one of the most polarizing film franchises ever. Some audiences adored
Snyder’s dark and mythological take on these iconic characters, while other audiences found the films
to be much more style than substance. However, no matter which side of the divide you’re on, two
things remain true for many of us:
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is not the best movie in the franchise. The Batman warehouse fight scene is iconic.
While Snyder’s DC movies didn’t work for everyone, it’s obvious that Zack Snyder had a clear vision and
style in mind for his films, and that sometimes yielded stunning splash page shots that look like the
comic panels coming to life. This version of Batman is famously played by Ben Affleck, who faced serious
blowback from the announcement that he’d be taking on the cape and cowl.

Sunday’s episode of “Succession,” titled “America Decides,” offered a heart-pounding hour of television as Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Roman (Kieran Culkin), Shiv (Sarah Snook) and Tom Wambsgans (Matthew Macfadyen) oversee Atn’s first election coverage since the shocking death of Logan (Brian Cox) – and the stakes couldn’t be higher.

It serves as an iconic introduction for one of the greatest action heroes of all time, Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones.
In our new show, Scene Breakdown, our host Kier Gomes, takes us through the iconic opening beat-for-beat. He explains everything from how Spielberg and George Lucas crafted the sequence as an iconic introduction to how it provided an early role for the great Alfred Molina. We also dig into how Harrison Ford came close to not playing the part, with only the 11th-hour green lighting of Magnum P.I. keeping original star Tom Selleck from wearing the fedora. We also break down John Williams’s score,...
