In Jennifer Coolidge’s Variety Actors on Actors conversation with Jeremy Allen White, she proposes that Tanya return to “The White Lotus” as a seagull, so she can poke out the eyes of her evil husband Greg (Jon Gries). Haley Lu Richardson, who played Tanya’s assistant, Portia, weighs in on killing off Greg during this week’s “Just for Variety” podcast.
“Jon and I worked together in the first movie I ever did — when I was 17 — called ‘The Last Survivors,’” she recalls, adding, “I was the hero and he was the villain. I killed him at the end of the movie with a samurai sword.”
She says she’d like to re-create that moment in Season 3 of “The White Lotus,” which takes place in Thailand. “Portia is somewhere in Asia with a samurai sword and kills Greg,” she says, laughing.

Barbie Ferreira, one of the breakouts from HBO’s Euphoria, and Stranger Things actor Dacre Montgomery are set to star in Faces of Death, a reimagining of the 1978 cult horror movie being made by Legendary.
Isa Mazzei and Daniel Goldhaber, the team behind the 2018 psychological thriller Cam and How to Blow Up a Pipeline, are writing and directing, respectively, the reimagining.
Made just as home video was taking off, Faces had the conceit of a pathologist exploring gruesome ways to die via footage purportedly culled from around the world. In reality, most of the death scenes were staged, but the film had the exact effect its producers desired: outrage, revulsion, banning (although not in 52 countries, as hyped by the film’s makers) and, of course, minting money.

In a pre-holiday surprise, megaproducer Greg Berlanti is leaving his longtime reps at WME for a new home at CAA. According to insiders, the decision to make the switch comes as Berlanti takes stock of his career — and as he approaches 50, aims to evolve his domain.
The jump from WME to CAA also coincides with big changes in the worlds that Berlanti is best known for: The CW, where Berlanti has produced countless shows and found some of his biggest success, is undergoing a massive change under its new Nexstar owners and looking to move away from its big budget, major studio series. And while Berlanti has defined a generation of DC TV shows via hits like “Arrow” and “The Flash,” the film side’s DC Studios is now under new leadership (James Gunn and Peter Safran). Both changes are said to have given Berlanti some pause, as the CW...

In one of the biggest TV showrunner agency moves in years, CAA has signed Greg Berlanti for representation in all areas.
A WGA, DGA, PGA and Emmy nominated writer, director, and producer, Berlanti is known for his loyalty; he has only changed agencies once, in the early 2000s, when he left ICM for Endeavor (now WME), where he has been for almost two decades, represented by Ari Greenburg.
The move comes amid sweeping changes at Berlanti’s longtime TV home, Warner Brothers. With his blockbuster overall deal coming up, Berlanti is bringing a new team, led by CAA heavyweights Bryan Lourd and Joe Cohen, to plot his next move.
Following the Discovery merger, there have been executive shakeups and restructurings across all divisions of Warner Bros., including the TV studio, HBO Max and DC...

Haley Lu Richardson is issuing me with a warning. “I’m looking rough!” cries the actor, as she turns her camera on. What appears on the screen is actually very sweet: a rosy-cheeked 27-year-old covered in stickers. There’s a purple star stuck to the right of her nose, and a green one on her forehead. She’s nestled in the centre of a white fluffy beanbag and surrounded by houseplants – standing, hanging, trailing – in various wicker containers. Her screen name reads “h poopy”.
When I ask about the stars, Richardson is dumbfounded. “You don’t know zit stickers?!” she squeals. “Oh my gosh, they’re honestly the coolest thing since sliced bread. You can also get flowers with little rhinestones, Hello Kitty ones, SpongeBob ones, rainbow ones… it’s just amazing because it makes having acne fun!!!” It’s half past eight in the morning for Richardson, who’s in her apartment in California,...

A new trailer for the Netflix black comedy Do Revenge dropped on Tuesday, offering a further glimpse into the bubblegum, sugarcoated world of director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s latest endeavor.
Do Revenge stars Riverdale’s Camila Mendes and Stranger Things’ Maya Hawke as two high school students who’ve had their social lives ruined by their respective loose-lipped exes. Warner Bros. Discovery has been quietly culling content from HBO Max — including several Warner Bros. movies that were exclusively streaming on the service — in what appears to be an effort to cut costs.
Within the past few weeks, at least six Warner Bros. movies have been removed from HBO Max: “Moonshot,” a sci-fi rom-com starring Lana Condor and Cole Sprouse; artificial-intelligence dystopia comedy “Superintelligence,” starring Melissa McCarthy; Robert Zemeckis’ 2020 remake of “The Witches,” starring Anne Hathaway, Octavia Spencer, Stanley Tucci and Chris Rock; comedy “An American Pickle,” starring Seth Rogen as an immigrant who wakes up after being pickled for 100 years; Doug Liman heist pic “Locked Down” with Anne Hathaway and Chiwetel Ejiofor; and drama “Charm City Kings” from director Angel Manuel Soto.

The 27-year-old star of Edge of Seventeen, Columbus and Unpregnant is growing up with indie Montana Story and a role in the next season of The White Lotus
In the last half decade, Haley Lu Richardson has amassed an impressive variety of roles, from slapstick comedies and indie dramas, united in their striking naturalism.
As the popular best friend to Hailee Steinfeld’s misanthrope in teen comedy Edge of Seventeen, a star-crossed lover with cystic fibrosis in Five Feet Apart and an architecture nerd who befriends a grieving older man in Kogonada’s critically acclaimed Columbus, the 27-year-old American actor’s warmth consistently elevates what could be flat or derivative characters into full-blooded people. She is remarkably good at the more casual, throwaway aspects of life that often translate poorly to screen – Googling Planned Parenthood in Unpregnant, shooting a glance in the memories of a techno-sapien robot in After Yang or,...

“The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight,” a new YA romance feature from the producers of “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” franchise is heading to Netflix.
Based on the book of the same name by Jennifer E. Smith, the film follows complete strangers Hadley and Oliver, who find themselves falling for each other on a flight from New York to London, only to get separated when they land. Despite the low probability of reconnecting in a city as big as London, the bond forged on the flight spurs them toward reunion, motivated by the hope that their missed connection is a shot at love. What's better than a rom-com? The upcoming HBO Max movie "Moonshot" seems to think the answer to that question is "a rom-com in space"! Starring Cole Sprouse and Lana Condor, the sci-fi rom-com follows two unlikely allies on a space shuttle to a Mars colony. It definitely sounds like the kind of world that could support a ton of stories, but if you're wondering whether a "Moonshot" sequel is in the works, it might be a while before we get answers.
There are at least a few behind-the-scenes factors that could make a sequel easier. According to Deadline, "Moonshot" is the second movie in a four-movie deal between production company Berlanti/Schechter Films and HBO Max.
The first movie in the deal, "Unpregnant," hit HBO Max in 2020. That still leaves two more movies to go to complete the deal, and there's really no reason one of those couldn't be a "Moonshot" sequel.

LGBTQ characters appeared in a higher percentage of films in 2020 than ever before, according to a new study from GLAAD. The study also found more of those characters were people of color, and more of them than ever had a substantial amount of screen time.
GLAAD’s annual Studio Responsibility Index found that of 44 films from eight major studios released throughout 2020, 10 of them, or 22.7%, had characters who identified as gay, lesbian, bisexual or queer. That percentage is up from 2019, in which only 18.6% had LGBTQ characters.
But for the fourth year in a row, GLAAD found that transgender characters and non-binary characters were completely absent from major studio theatrical releases, with the organization saying that the film industry greatly lags behind TV when it comes to representation in this regard.

Rachel Lee Goldenberg’s Unpregnant has everything you’d expect from a classic road trip buddy comedy with plenty of humor and hijinks — but it’s also about a much more serious and political topic than most. In the HBO Max telefilm, Veronica (Haley Lu Richardson) learns she can’t get an abortion in her home state without parental permission, so she enlists her former best friend Bailey (Barbie Ferreira) to drive her across the country to an abortion clinic. Along the way, the teens encounter myriad unexpected obstacles, from carnival rides to a car chase, all the while finding themselves ...

Exclusive: Mason Gooding, Emily Rudd and Lukas Gage are set to join Lana Condor and Cole Sprouse in New Line’s Max Original feature Moonshot.
Chris Winterbauer is attached to direct from a screenplay by Max Taxe. Sprouse’s Riverdale exec producers Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter will produce through Berlanti/Schechter Films along with Jill McElroy and Jenna Sarkin of Entertainment 360.
The romantic comedy with a sci-fi twist is set in a future where Mars is terraformed and colonized by the best humanity has to offer. Two very different college students end up joining forces and sneak onboard a space shuttle to the red planet in order to be united with their significant others.
Mike McGrath of Berlanti/Schechter Films will executive produce alongside Dana Fox. Moonshot is the second feature collaboration between Berlanti/Schechter Films and HBO Max, where they have a four-picture pact, following their Unpregnant released last year.

For Gen Z, getting birth control should be easier than ever and abortion access is a right, and yet women’s bodily autonomy is still under attack. Last year, there were two films about teens helping each other cross state lines in order to receive the health care they desperately need: Eliza Hittman’s neo-realistic drama “Never Rarely Sometimes Always” and Rachel Lee Goldenberg’s buddy comedy “Unpregnant.” Both films show how access to unfettered health care for teen girls is a state-by-state issue, hitting hardest in rural America.

Universal Pictures has preemptively nabbed a live action project from Phil Lord and Chris Miller, to be produced with Erik Feig’s Picturestart.
Titled “Strays,” the film is an adult comedy and original pitch from writer Dan Perrault (“American Vandal”), about an abandoned dog who teams up with other strays to get revenge on his former owner.
The project will be directed by Josh Greenbaum, who just made his narrative directorial debut with Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo’s “Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar.” Greenbaum is an Emmy winner who hails from the unscripted space.
Picturestart packaged and developed Perrault’s script for Greenbaum, Lord and Miller and their label’s film president Aditya Sood, and producer Louis Leterrier who will join via his Rabbit Hole Productions banner. Feig will produce for Picturestart.
The movie falls under Lord and Miller’s first-look deal with the Donna Langley-led Universal,...
