Meh...Good Premise, Poor Execution
AudioFileZ11 August 2019
This series started out with the Great Pyramid and I thought it might really a great question. I really didn't get too much out of it however and it was the best of the next two. By number 3 about the Coliseum I must say I thought it all a wasted premise. I want to know exactly how the same structures (i.e. no changes) would be built today and these folks always wanted to change the original. It is a waste I'd say.

Disappointed

I was eagerly anticipating this show. But as with the previous poster am quite disappointed in the execution. Have seen almost all of the shows but found them all irrelevant to the premise. There are plenty of construction shows. I would like to see the cost and effort involved in a total recreation. I don't want to see a modern sports coliseum or a new brooklyn Bridge. After the war, Europe recreated many iconic buildings. That's what I want to see.

Boring, old-fashioned style documentary

I could only watch one of this series - the Brooklyn Bridge one. Very poorly made with no imagination and boring, repetitive dialogue.

An excellent example of how NOT to make a documentary.

Sloppy assumptions

I watched the episodes on high speed railroads. The amount of tunneling between Denver and Salt Lake City was way overstated because big swaths of western Colorado and eastern Utah are basically flat.

Also, there are minimal flights between Denver and SLC. SLC isn't a big enough of a city to worry about for high speed rail. Would make more sense for the route to be most direct to Vegas on the way to LA.

That building it today would mean a transcontinental railroad to LA, not to Northern California.

Turn on closed captions and mute the narrator
a-ross1-941-92707816 February 2023
This looked like it might be an interesting anthology of all the monuments, bridges and other structures. It's a shame there was very little new information but the thing that makes it unwatchable .or maybe listenable s a better word, is the presentation style of the narrator.

Our narrator is "over-emoting" and seems to believe he s disclosing the most shocking incredible details of virtually every step of every project, and after all it's just history.

Maybe he is trying to interject a "wow" factor into what is after all middle school history stuff. If the objective of the series s to rerun it in classrooms when the substitute teacher doesn't have any other content available it might keep a few kids awake.

It's all about Italy
dannyrevolution18 March 2023
I wanted to give this show a chance because I love architecture and history, but it's so biased. Every other episode is something related to Italy. Maybe there are more episodes that include Aztec/Mayan architecture. It doesn't sway me enough to keep watching. The aqueduct episode annoyed me because one of the guests said art is useless and only the Romans built useful things. Also, what's with the wall episode??? They kept it as "some people may not agree." Yeah, go ahead and build the wall and imagine there's going to be a huge concert turnout celebrating on the 4th of July. That with the Noah's arc episode makes me think the white Christian producers can't read the room. Some of the experts say it best, "what would be the point?" Don't waste your time on this show.
