Disappointing from start to finish, no wit, no creativity

"Die Liebe ein Traum" is a 2008 romantic comedy set in Austria and it is as cheesy as its name suggests. It's directed by Xaver Schwarzenberger who may be known to German audiences from his work with Otto Waalkes decades earlier. Also he is one of Germany's most prolific and successful cinematographers. The film stars Florian David Fitz as Max, with long hair and before his big breakthrough ("Vincent will Meer") and Stefanie Dvorak (still no breakthrough from her) as Anna. Johann von Bülow is also in the film and he may be known to German cineastes at least.

Two people meet again and reflect about the time when they were a couple. Apparently, everything in their relationship was a mess except the great sex they had. Now they have new partners, but of course they still feel something for the other, so the ending is very predictable. There's lots of dancing in this film, very cheesy dialog and you could maybe call it an extremely poor man's German version of "Runaway Bride". The film dragged occasionally, but still they managed to fit the final reunion of the two into no more than the last 90 seconds of the movie.

Pretty disappointing, not recommended unless you are a huge Fitz fan and curious about his earlier works. Or maybe, if that is the case, you should especially stay away. German romance movies made for television are 99% painfully bad these days. This one is no exception.
