Watch Müller's stand-up instead

Warning: Spoilers
This 2008 film stars Holger Müller in his most known role as Ausbilder Schmidt, a tough army drill sergeant who is in fact pretty incompetent. I saw him quite a while ago for the first time and I believe he has some comedic talent. However, he is not a great actor and his shtick just wears down to quickly to seem interesting for a film that runs for almost 90 minutes. And another problem is that the two main supporting actors Collien Fernandes (really cringeworthy at times) and Axel Stein (before his Jonah Hill-like transformation when he lost lots of weight) are not particularly gifted either. The film includes some music too, like the main character's version of "Ich will Spaß. Ich geb Gas." but none of it really wowed me. The story is fairly simple. An exotic princess comes to Germany and Ausbilder Schmidt has to protect her from evil terrorists including her man's identical twin brother.

In smaller roles, you will find quite a few known names to German audiences: Ingo Appelt, Bernhard Hoecker, Hans Meiser, Carolin Kebekus, Fahri Yardim, Elyas M'Barek and of course easily the most talented actor from the cast Horst Krause. However, he only has one scene really and that is not enough to save the film, especially as his character is not particularly well-written either. It was funny to see how Ausbilder Schmidt acted like the big boss everywhere at his job, but during one phone call we see how his wife is the real boss between the two. What I did like on the other hand was that they did not include a cheesy love story between the main character and the princess as both are already off the market.

As a whole, the movie simply did not offer enough funny parts that I would recommend it to you. And as I wrote earlier already, it also suffers from sub-par acting. The ending had lots of drama and action, well sort-of for a comedic film, but it did not feel convincing to me either. You will probably only enjoy this movie if you are a huge fan of any of the lead trio actors. Final mention to the trailer, which is probably much better than the film as it scored a nomination at the movie trailer Oscars that year.

Underrated silly fun.
German silly comedies are a hit and miss.

Either they are brilliant or dumb as hell.

This one is surprisingly good, despite its cartoonishness, mostly because of the performances of the actors, who seemed to have a lot of fun.

Ausbilder Schmidt is one of the funniest German comedic figures alone, but the story built around the character is decent enough to entertain.

You can find it on youtube, obviously the company doesn't care about any copyright violation and hopes people will appreciate the movie.

It's a comedy, the rank is underrated.

The film is not a good one, I agree on that with the votes, but 3.6 is definitely way lower. It's a comedy, and has to be taken so. It's true they jump from a mountain inside a car, which first doesn't fall, to a town and it just creates some dust and zero injuries. Nonetheless the film is full of jokes which made me really laugh, with the stupid lucky behaviour of the main character, the new cadet and probably my favourite character, his grandfather. It is not worth 10, but it is severely underrated. I do recommend it, as a comedy is really funny, but it won't make sense for you all time.
