Exclusive: France TV Distribution has unveiled a raft of deals on Andréa Bescond and Éric Métayer’s intergenerational comedy-drama Big Kids.
The film has sold to Brazil (Imovision), Benelux (Cinéart), Spain (Vercine), Switzerland (Agora Films), Poland (Best Film Co), Baltics (Unlimited Media), Central America (Babilla) and Taiwan (Avjet International Media Co.).
Ad Vitam released the film in France in April, achieving a gross of just under $1million.
Inspired by real-life stories in France, the movie revolves around a group of school children who end up spending their lunch breaks at a nearby nursing home while their school cafeteria is being remodelled.
The caretaker, played by Vincent Macaigne, is not happy to see the school children invade his residents’ territory, and an intergenerational clash seems inevitable.
However, shared interests and a series of comical situations foster new friendships between the elderly residents and their young lunchtime guests.

When it was announced five months ago that Gaspard Ulliel — the wolfishly handsome beau of films including “A Very Long Engagement”, “Saint Laurent” and “Sibyl” — died suddenly in a freak skiing accident at 37, peopled mourned the world over for one the most charming actors working in contemporary Gallic cinema. Pulsar Content has boarded Anissa Bonnefont’s erotic drama “La Maison” based on Emma Becker’s controversial bestselling novel chronicling the young author’s two-year undercover experience working as a sex worker at a Berlin brothel.
Now in post-production, “La Maison” is headlined by Ana Girardot, the rising French star of “The Returned,” “Back to Burgundy” and “Escobar: Paradise Lost,” as well as Rossy De Palma and Aure Atika (“10 Days With Dad”). De Palma will also be at Cannes to preside over the jury of the Golden Camera Award.
Pulsar Content has secured worldwide sales and unveiling a first still of the movie (pictured above). The outfit will introduce the project to buyers at Cannes with a promo reel. Rezo will distribute “La Maison” in France.
Radar Films, a Mediawan company whose credits include “Vicky and her Mystery,” “The Deep House” and “Divorce Club” is producing the movie with and Belgian banner uMedia co-producing.

MoviePass plans to relaunch its movie ticketing subscription service and app starting this summer, and the company intends to offer multiple tiered pricing plans as well as new functionality, including the ability to bring friends to movies via your subscription.
The new MoviePass will have a virtual currency called “credits” that aim to create a marketplace for theaters to directly entice consumers to come to their theaters and offer special deals or promotions. MoviePass aims to target independent and art house theater chains and provide users the flexibility to visit multiple theaters through the plan, and they’re offering any theater circuit that wishes to partner with MoviePass the ability to do so for free.
These credits will also be transferable and will rollover between months. No specific price points were unveiled as part of the event, however.

CNN Films has acquired US streaming and broadcast rights to Dionne Warwick: Don’t Make Me Over and will set the documentary as one of the first films to premiere on its upcoming streaming service CNN+ which is scheduled to debut this spring.
Mister Smith handles international sales at the EFM this week on the film, co-directed by Dave Wooley and David Heilbroner, which explores the life of the legendary singer who broke racial and gender barriers to rise from her roots in New Jersey gospel choirs to attain global superstardom and continues to fight discrimination.

Blitz Bazawule’s “The Color Purple” movie musical has found its Celie and Sofia in Fantasia Taylor and Danielle Brooks.
Both actors reprise their respective roles from the stage musical, where Taylor made her Broadway debut as Celie in 2007 following her “American Idol” win, and Brooks earned a Tony Award nomination for her portrayal of Sofia in the 2015 revival.
Taylor and Brooks’ casting was announced on Thursday as part of the ABC News special “Soul of a Nation Presents: Screen Queens Rising.” During the broadcast, “ABC News Live Prime” anchor Linsey Davis interviewed the women about reviving their roles for the film and following the Oscar-nominated big screen performances by Whoopi Goldberg and Oprah Winfrey.

This holiday weekend, Christmas-related older movies accounted for 15 of the 30 slots on the three VOD charts we list. That’s a record share of non-recent titles, underscoring the absence of current films getting early home play. Consider that a sign of a partial return to theater supremacy, at least for the moment.
The weak response for most new releases in theaters so far other than the dominant “Spider-Man: No Way Home” (Sony) and “Sing 2” (Universal) could be further incentive for studios to take care in their length of windows, or even releasing in theaters initially. As always, we have little clue about the revenue raised by popular at-home titles, but the continued appearance from some long-playing films like “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” (Sony/$5.99), “Free Guy” (Disney/$5.99), and “No Time to Die” (United Artists/$5.99) enhance their potential profit.
All three are among the six films that placed on all three lists.
