Franz Fuchs – Ein Patriot

Warning: Spoilers
Elisabeth Scharang directed and co-wrote this docu-drama about the criminal case of Franz Fuchs. From 1993 to 1997 Fuchs was responsible for a spate of letter bombs and bomb attacks all over Austria, that cost the lives of four people and badly hurt over a dozen people. Fuchs was convicted as a lone attacker, although rumours about accomplices never fell silent. In February of 2000 Fuchs hung himself in his prison cell. Karl Markovics plays Fuchs in this movie, mostly we see him during police questioning, between which re-enacted scenes of his attacks or at his house are cut in. The acted scenes are interspersed with interviews of the people involved in the real cases or acquaintances of him. Scharang gives us a very good insight in the case of Franz Fuchs, she gives you a lot of information. As usual for a TV film, the cinematic aspects are mostly neglected, however, there are scenes in which you can see the director's will to bring them in.
