What we have here is the music video for the song "Afterlife" by Hailee Steinfeld. It runs for 3.5 minutes and was directed by Hannah Lux Davis and it feels as if she is really in charge of every female artist's music video these days. Anyway, lets focus on Steinfeld. I really like her a lot as an actress and it's been about a decade now since True Grit, almost 10 years, the film by the Coen Bros that gave her her big breakthrough. As an actress I should add and she was probably in second spot thatg year to win the Supporting Actress Academy Award behind Melissa Leo. But even with Pitch Perfect going on, The Edge of Seventeen and also Bumblebee it feels as if she has been focusing more on her music career for quite a while now than on her acting career, which I find a bit sad. It seems one new film with her is the maximum we are getting these days. But as acting careers usually last longer than music careers, who knows and maybe it is going to change in the next few years. Of course, I wish Hailee good luck in both fields. Now with "Afterlife" I am a bit confused by the spelling. It seems as if it should be written "after life" judging from the way it is used in the song. So yeah me saying this makes it obvious I guess I cannot really say too much about the song. It's okay, mildly catchy, but nothing about it stsnads really out and while Hailee's voice is okay, it makes clear once again that even if maybe she loves music more, her real strength is acting. Like with Jared Leto a bit maybe. Anyway, in this music vido I liked her white dress (the one you see on the photo here on imdb) definitely more than her red dress that was a bit too pompous for me. Also the video I watched had "Dickinson" added to the music video, a recent mini series Steinfeld is starring in, so not sure there is another music video out there. But with millions of views in only 1.5 months, it is certainly the most seen version out there. I don't think that commercially the song is a big hit though or maybe it is also already too early to say. So yeah, all in all I give this one here a thumbs-down, both song and music video are no failures, but still more on the forgettable side. Go for something else instead. I am a big Hailee fan and even for me this did not really make an impact.
