Fundamentally misses the point of Star Trek's vision and Starfleet's mission
theheadlessrabbit30 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This animated short fundamentally misses the point of Star Trek's vision of a world where all life is respected. It also fails to understand Starfleet's mission to seek out new life and new civilizations.

The Enterprise would not have automated systems that seek out lifeforms and eliminate them from the ship.

The animation and sound design is beautiful and well-executed. The pacing is great. This show desperately needs the writing to rise up to the level of the rest of the production.

Far away from Trek
MarsDiamond21 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
While this episode was mildly entertaining, it disrespects not only technological but also scientifical aspects of the now 55 year old Star Trek universe. I don't think the Enterpise was neccessary for the story, any space ship would have suited it better (the Dark Star 1 for example, a perfect match). So what was the point? Having an entertaining ride thru the life of the iconic star ship? That could have been done in a much better and more respectful way. Introducing a new hero, the servicing drone? Also a bunch of options there. If you don't care for the franchise core technology, the way a Starfleet star ship is supposed to work (or was supposed to for the past 50 years), then why let it be the setting for this? I don't get it. If this was not tied to Trek, I would give it a higher rating for sure. The animation, timing, production... all very solid, but prerequisites and continuity in relation to Star Trek, just worthless. How would the ship crush the asteroid with it's deflector, if the deflector's purpose is to prevent such incidents? Would Starfleet program it's robots to harm a potentially unknown lifeform? Are there really piles of laundry on the Enterprise? Is the internal structure of that ship supposed to shift without pattern? I know we could ignore that for the sake of slapstick, but... no. Keep it Trek or just leave it.

A mockery of the continuity of the franchise ... and boooring
mmartinez197031 December 2019
Terrible problems of continuity, lousely narrated. The characters produce more disgust than grace and it is impossible to become fond of them. No wonder it looks like Discovery at all. Zero respect for everything that has already been done on Star Trek for over 40 years.

A cartoon about a Tardigrade..I was expecting it to be about star trek and for it to have a somewhat serious nature...But this bugs bunny thing was not working for me. It wasn't even scientifically correct in the star trek universe...

-I don't care if a series has a source of inspiration from a non-trek game or web series,as long if this is a good source ,but the game TARDIGRADES and the disgusting Youtube series CAPTAIN TARDIGRADE , DEFENDER OF THE MULTIVERSE are not something a normal human being should ever watch, how can you people be so low ,morbid and disgusting..?!?

Totally Confusing
schuzalan28 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I felt like sharing my perspective on this, for one particular reason. Star Trek is very dear to me and watching this Ephraim and Dot Cartoon was a little bit confusing.

I do understand that every franchise needs new blood in order to stand the test of time. If the next generation of fans is not entertained, the franchise dies a slow death and will sooner or later be forgotten.

So it's great you think of the young ones here. But first of all, this cartoon make no sense if you haven't watched Discovery, which is in no way intended for children. And my second and maybe more important point is, that mixing this cartoon in with the rest of the short trek episodes is just wrong.

As a great fan of the the franchise i am left asking myself, who is the target group here? I am confused in terms of what to expect, when i watch Star Trek, seeing something as braindead as this Episode. This is way below sesame street and has almost nothing to do with Star Trek, so i am asking myself: What is this supposed to be? Whom is this intended for? Because it certainly isn't for the usual Short Trek Audience.

Spending a little bit less time rushing everything drowning every episode in action and explosions. And taking a little bit more time writing that story, might be worth a try. Honestly, i am trying hard to like the new star trek, but getting bombarded with childish elements like this cartoon episode, or absolutely incompetent, straight out stupid characters, that make no sense, just makes me cringe.

Try to retain some dignity and don't always go the easy way. This is Star Trek, not Dump and Dumber, or Ren and Stimpy.
