Happy Birthday Johnny
DKosty1236 January 2010
The longer Johnny Carson is gone, the better he looks. Carson was one of a kind. This show had a couple of great guests & went 90 minutes.

JFK was President, & it wan a whole different world. Skitch Henderson was leading the band as Doc Severinson didn't even get around to getting any of his garish jackets yet. But boy, Johnny getting started on a great run was worth watching.

Most of us were watching this in black & white though NBC was the first network doing color telecasts. Computers were big full rooms of machines hiding in banks & insurance companies. The government had given everyone a social security number & identity theft wasn't a problem because you had to wait in line at the bank for everything & most business was done with cash.

Gasoline was 27.9 cents a gallon. Johnny's monologues were already ahead of the times though as he would be doing them 30 years later, with still the same exact results.

Life was good, & women hadn't even burned their bras yet. The Beatles were still in Liverpool. Carson even predated them. It was so cold in New York this October 15th, how cold was it? It was so cold that Hendersons lips were stuck in a pucker position for 90 minutes this night. The lights were so hot, how hot were they? They were so hot that Rosemary Clooney almost stripped at Johnnys desk.

Was Carson really wearing a Robert Hall suit on this show?
