Another successful fairytale adaptation

It is really going on for a long long time now that fairytales get adapted into one-hour movies for German television and this one here is actually among the most recent additions. It was shown for the first time during the 2019 holidays and if the quality is as good as with this one here, i hope they keep going for a while and still come up with new stuff. This one here is in the original by Wolf and (the famous Wilhelm) Busch, but the director is Frank Stoye, in his 50s now and this is certainly not his first fairytale movie adaptation. The cast makes obvious that these films still attract big names because German film buffs will probably know everybody in here. Sonsee Neu is easy to identify as always, same is true about Akin regular Bousdoukos who plays her man. The main antagonist is Greek-born actress Adele Neuhauser and I generally don't like her too much, but as all she does in this film is despicable made it really easy to dislike her (character) for me this time. Also in it is Florian Stetter, another established actor, and Rüdiger Vogler (Wenders' lead actor back in the day) and I have seen him in several small screen productions in recent years now that he is moving closer to his 80th birthday and many of them were sadly not good at all, so nice to see him in something better for once again. He plays the main antagonist's servant, who is a good guy though as he decides to not kill the babies as instructed by the evil queen, but just takes them away hoping somebody finds them. And it happens and they are brought up by two loving foster parents.

This does not sound too fantastic yet (like in the fairytale sense), but it becomes fantastic quickly. The evil queen finds out they are alive more than a decade later and makes a plan to make sure they never meet their father, her son. This is because she despises the children's mother so much and thinks he deserves somebody better. So indirectly she turned everybody into stone. But she does not expect the girl's kindness and dedication being enough to pass all the challenges and so of course she manages to make her brothers human again and in a bit of a super happy epilogue (after the evil queen is put in prison), even the children's mother (and king's one love) is brought back to live. It's true what he says on one occasion: His mother robbed him of his love, his children and his happiness. So of course, all is good at the end again as it is most often the case in these fairytales and the kids now even have 4 loving parents. The scenes on the road to the clever bird were nicely done, also thhe invisible wall and it had some entertainment value to see Bousdoukos try so hard to get through it, but magic didn't let him. My guess, by the way, was that the cat is their real mother, but nope. Anyway, this film also promotes kindness to animals and that is always a win for me. I liked the watch here. I think many people here in Germany where this fairytale is from of course have heard the name, but the real story in detail is not known to too many, so it is nice once again that these films manage to remember us what happens and do so while still delivering a successful modern adaptation that is entertaining from beginning to end. Hedda Erlebach was also not really stunning, but also played her part well, soo yeah i must correct myself, the child actors you probably will not know, but this is almost always the case for these 1-hour fairytales and who knows maybe if you watch this film 12 years from now, she is a big star here in my country. I wouldn't be surprised. Her effort here (and everybody else's) is a convincing film from beginning to end. I suggest you check it out, with your grandmother, with your children, with everybody else. It is for all ages. Thumbs up!
