Marvel’s “The Punisher” might be set within the New York universe that features Daredevil, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage, but it has almost nothing to do with superheroes themselves. You don’t need to have binge-watched this new Netflix series this weekend in its entirety to know – the fact is evident from minute one. The Punisher is a ruthless vigilante, with a code of honor, albeit a very distorted one.

Toronto – There is a theory I have about interviewing famous people which I probably tell too much. It tends to come up in conversation when someone asks about such and such a well known actress or actor. As a journalist for some time and having interviewed literally hundreds of industry talent (perhaps over 1,000 different subjects) I’ve recognized there are three different types of people you tend to meet.
The first is someone who doesn’t forget that you’ve interviewed them five or six times before.

The loss of a parent is hard no matter how old you are. These are the people that brought you into this world, raised you when you needed someone 24/7, and it’s something everyone can relate to. Regardless of if your parent was an active part of your life or not, there’s always something the pulls us towards that parent. A connection that is unlike any other. Liam Cunningham tells us why we should all be more like Davos Seaworth, and what tore Kit Harington’s soul apart on the show…
A policy of honesty and bravery has taken Ser Davos, the Onion Knight, a surprisingly long way in the game of thrones. He’s a loyal follower, and a rare thing in Westeros - a man concerned with doing the right thing.

In Cult Of Chucky, the murderous doll returns to wreak more havoc, but is the seventh film in the franchise anything to get excited about?
It might sound like a very silly thing to say, but the Child's Play franchise has always remained fairly grounded.

Director and stars reveal their motivations for taking on Nocturnal Animals during Venice press conference.
Director Tom Ford and actors Jake Gyllenhaal, Amy Adams and Aaron Taylor-Johnson revealed their motivations for collaborating on buzzed-about Venice premiere Nocturnal Animals, during a press conference on the Lido today (Sept 2).
In the “gleaming” and “audacious” movie, liberally adapted by Ford from Austin Wright’s novel, Adams plays an art gallery owner who is haunted by her ex-husband’s (Jake Gyllenhaal) novel, a violent thriller whose intricacies serve as symbolic reminders of their relationship and of lost opportunity.
Ford, making his anticipated return to the director’s chair following well-received 2009 debut A Single Man, said of the film: “I’m someone who really loves loyalty. Loyalty is very important to me. When you find those people you really like, you don’t let go of them. This is a cautionary tale.”

Teenage angst, bad hair and portals to another dimension in 70s Australia. Here's the new trailer for the great-looking Girl Asleep...
Ever had a dream that was so thoroughly improbable and weird that you often wondered whether you’d actually gone to sleep or fallen through a portal?
Girl Asleep is a Pretty in Pink meets Where The Wild Things Are anti-fairy tale that explores the bizarre and fantastical corners of one teen’s overactive imagination. Rosemary Myers’ quirky retro film is adapted from a screenplay by Matthew Whittet (who first wrote it as a stage production) and stars Whittet, Bethan Whitmore, Tilly Cobham-Hervy, Imogen Archer, Harrison Feldman, Amber McMahon, Eamon Farren, Maiah Stewardston.
Seventies-era Australia is just as awkward a time and place as any to go through an adolescent crisis. As if high school isn’t enough of a horror, 14-year-old Greta Driscoll has to...

I was new to the school, and I didn’t know anyone. When you’re a kid, moving is hard. But moving when you have the last name “McWeeny” was next-level difficult, and it taught me to live by prison rules early. The first person to come at me with jokes about the last name had to be destroyed, and then I could settle into my new life. When I showed up for my first day in the fourth grade at Ooltewah Elementary School, I was coming from a fairly disastrous stay in Texas that came to a Biblical conclusion, the flooding of our neighborhood complete with an entire bridge being washed away. I had a chip on my shoulder about the entire time in Texas, and I wasn’t sure what to make of Chattanooga yet. I didn’t feel like I fit into the South, and I knew...

A few days ago I had the chance to speak to Veronica Sixtos about her new project Hostile Border.
The film follows Claudia (22) who is raised in the U.S., but is an undocumented illegal immigrant living beyond her means in a twisted version of the American dream. When she's arrested by the FBI for credit card fraud, Claudia is quickly deported to Mexico.
Speaking no Spanish and lost in her foreign "homeland," she reluctantly takes refuge at her estranged father's cattle ranch. As she clashes with her unyielding father, she her attempts to return to the U.S. thrust her into a dangerous bond with a foreign smuggler, Ricky. Caught between her father's sermons, Ricky's promises, and the encroaching military, Claudia must navigate a tightrope of impossible choices.
Here is what Veronica Sixtos had to say about the film.

Is Khloé Kardashian finally ready to put her marriage to Lamar Odom behind her?
Though the two remain legally wed since Kardashian called off their protracted divorce following Odom's near-fatal overdose last October, a source tells People that the reality star is "ready to move on" and plans to pick up their divorce proceedings.
"She doesn't agree with some of Lamar's choices in the past few weeks," says the source. "She plans on refiling for divorce soon. She and Lamar are just figuring out the finances first."

Khloé Kardashian is expressing herself on social media - but don't read too much into it. The reality star "went deep on insta", Sunday, sharing a quote with a lengthy personal note in the place of a caption. She later addressed speculation over her message's meaning on Twitter, insisting that "not everything is a subliminal." Kardashian, 31, first shared some wisdom about life and love alongside an image that read, "It doesn't matter how loyal you are to someone. You can't change someone's heart and bad habits unless they want to themselves." "Letting go doesn't mean that you don't care about someone anymore,...

More and more it seems that the doctors of Chicago Med have to make hard decisions in regards to their patients’ care. Dr. Charles remarks on how the Hippocratic Oath tells them to first do no harm, and everyone has to figure out if that means taking action or not. Dr. Halstead has to face his lawsuit head on. He’s a good doctor, and he does a lot of good work, but let’s face it, he screwed up big time. It doesn’t seem like he grasps the enormity of the situation. He still tries to connect with the patient

This is a reprint of our review from the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival. "I want to befriend my former enemies. And get them on my side… change the picture and be seen as a man of peace, even if you are not. The game of politics is pretending."— Paul Mangwana If dictatorial power corrupts absolutely, imagine what happens when a dictatorship tries to transition its way into democracy. Letting go is never easy, and expecting a despot to give up complete authoritarian control is an even greater challenge. This is essentially the backdrop of “Democrats,” a captivating documentary chronicling the corrupt political environment in Zimbabwe as its current leader, President Robert Mugabe — who has ruled over the country in some form or another since 1987 — attempts to cede control and open up the country to draft a new constitution. Of course, his decision to relinquish some power only comes in the wake...

Bollywood is famously known as being escapist.
True, there are heroes who can lift cars, women who can change into 7 different sari’s during a 4 minute song and indeed dance in these saris amidst snowy mountains.
However, Bollywood can be non-escapist too as it deals with real life issues that are deep and sometimes that are at the core of us all.
As we live our lives we find that sometimes we tumble through, sometimes we swim and sometimes we sink. Or rather, we feel that we sink. It is certainly in those challenging moments of feeling utterly lost and betrayed by life that transformation occurs – if we choose.
Life is full of ups and downs and we cannot control the seasons that come.
Nevertheless, choosing to see bewildering times as transformation is in our power.
And films can serve as an inspiration to do that.
For some, films help to understand the world.

Of all the categories at Sunday's Emmy Awards ceremony, Jeffrey Tambor is one of the biggest favorites to win with overwhelming 2/11 odds as Best Comedy Actor for his role on Amazon's freshman series "Transparent." Now on "Transparent," he plays Maura Pfefferman, a transgender woman in Los Angeles discovering her new life. I have too much stuff. Having moved last year has brought this fact into sharper focus, and during my illness I’ve had a lot of time to think about what possessions really matter to me. Letting go isn’t easy for a compulsive collector, all the more so because my wife and daughter have the same mindset. But at this weekend’s Heritage Movie Poster Auction we’re saying goodbye to some posters that haven’t ever found a place on our walls. What’s the point of holding onto movie artwork you can’t ever display? Don’t misunderstand: I’m not emptying the closet completely. But I’d be foolish if I didn’t try to prune the collection. After much thought I started weeding out my...

Last week’s episode of The Walking Dead was all about remembering the past. This week’s instalment in the epic serialised zombie series, meanwhile, is all about forgetting. Letting go of what you thought you knew, what you had gotten used to, and there’s probably a deleted scene where Eugene loses some car keys or something, before deciding they’re in Washington.
Memory has been an important theme running throughout this fifth season, with the Rick Grimes Brigade mostly doing their best to suppress any dwellings on the past, bad or good: deaths of major characters like Tyresse and Beth were skipped over, they seem nonplussed about nearly being eaten by cannibals, all that stuff.
It was just being taken as a given in this brave new world, where survival is the most important thing and if you distract yourself with silly things like feelings you’re liable to get hurt.

No one would disagree with Kanye West that the most memorable part of his 2010 song “Monster,” more so than himself or Jay Z or Rick Ross, is Nicki Minaj. The way he said it though...
“The fact that she kicked my ass, on my own song,” Kanye said during a lecture at Oxford University (via The Tab Oxford). “On one of the best albums, the best album -- I’m just saying what the critics said -- of the last 25 years. The best album of the past 25 years that I spent a year and a half making.”
“To come back and deliver my magnum opus of a work, and to be outshined,” he said. “To be beat by a girl, basically.” We guess that’s a compliment. But “beat by a girl,” Kanye? In 2015, Kanye? C’mon, Kanye.

Banshee, Season 3: Episode 6 – “We Were All Someone Else Yesterday”
Written by Adam Targum
Directed by Oc Madsen
Airs Friday nights at 10 on Cinemax
A question that doesn’t neatly fit into any of the five stages of grief under the Kubler-Ross model (denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance) is “What could I have done differently?” There are certainly elements of denial and bargaining within that, but the question on its own isn’t any one kind of reaction to losing someone; if anything, it comes from curiosity or doubt. Banshee has asked the question before. Season two’s “The Truth About Unicorns” asked how life might have been different if Carrie and Hood had had their planned future together. And like that episode, “We Were All Someone Else Yesterday” represents an alternate timeline of events through its black-and-white lens.
There are so many different questions Hood can ask himself that result in Siobhan living.
