By-the-Numbers Version of The Nutcracker
gregberne1110 January 2020
The story is great (The Nutcracker is of course a Christmas classic) but the animation is rudimentary and the voice work is uninspired. Worth watching. Young kids will get bored.

sweet

Faithful to the original story. Seductive for the songs and atmosphere. Just charming as the fair definition of this very sweet and just lovely short adaptation of the classic by E. T. A. Hoffman.

Correct in essence, inspired music and great scene of duel between Nutcracker and mouse king, it has as basic virtue the wake up of nostalgia for childhood, discover of book and, sure, not the last, for 1990 decade.

Indeed, better versions but this animation, in obvious manner, has not the ambition to impress but to say, in honest manner, a familiar story and to seduce in graceful way.

So, correct and sweet - the two words defining this The Nutcracker.

God awful

Warning: Spoilers
Do not watch. Worst thing I have ever watched in my life. From the dialogue, to the songs. It ends abruptly without a conclusion. The animation of the characters is awful too. Are the parents trying to be funny when they kept on checking their watch to see if it's Christmas? Did the cats give out performance ratings out of 10 when the Queen mouse exits with a leap and tumble? Droselmeyer wants to strangle his nephew when he finds out that he's had a nuticheck for 15 years? That's not funny, just disturbing. I'm aware this movie is for children but you're better off watching a different version.

A sweet Christmas classic
TheLittleSongbird1 July 2012
As far as the Jetlag Christmas outings go, I do prefer Magic Gift of the Snowman, but still find it an improvement on A Christmas Carol. The ending is perhaps abrupt and the voice acting is a little too corny at times, however the animation is overall warm and smooth, and Tchaikovsky's music proves to be as timeless as ever. I loved all the obligatory three songs too, Seasons of Love is really one to cherish forever, the dialogue is sweet and not too simplistic and the story has all the heart and charm it should. The characters do engage at least, Marie is very likable, the Nutcracker is dashing and the Mouse King is suitably menacing.

All in all, a classic for the festive season, and one of Jetlag's better animations overall. 9/10 Bethany Cox
