- At the distant temple, the clerics of the Everlight try to help Pike Trickfoot regain her connection with their goddess. Every attempt so far has failed, and Pike is growing desperate. In Whitestone, Cassandra is bleeding out in Percy's arms. Keyleth and Vax find them, and Anders watches in amusement as Keyleth hurriedly prepares a healing spell. While the half-elves tend to Cass, Percy goes after Anders. The Professor proves more agile and cunning than anticipated, and tells him that the Briarwoods recognized his genius, and have rewarded his service with great power. He uses his silver tongue to animate massive suits of armor to attack Percy. Vax steps in to defend him, and calls out for reinforcements as Vex and Grog finish off the guards downstairs. Their weapons are useless on the steel bodies. Keyleth manages to heal Cassandra just in time, and joins the fight. Percy finds that they can disable the golems by cutting the straps holding the armor together, and after dealing with the rest, they turn their attention to Professor Anders himself. He uses his silver tongue to mind control Grog into attacking Vax and the others.
At the temple, Pike once again enters the ethereal plane to find the Everlight. The same dark energy from before nearly consumes her, but the Everlight finally shows herself and saves her. She questions her follower as to why she feels she needs to atone, and is unsatisfied with Pike's floundering answers.
Grog goes on a rampage against his companions, and its all they can do to avoid him. Their attempts as stopping him fail, but Anders grows impatient. One by one, he takes over all of Vox Machina but Percy, and through them the Professor prepares to kill his former pupil. Percy however has caught on to the source of Anders' power, and as the smoke consumes him, he shoots a bullet that ricochets and blows apart Anders' lower jaw, severing the silver tongue, and freeing his friends from his influence. He approaches the defeated professor and dons the black mask, and condemns him for his betrayal of their trust, before shooting the rest of Anders head to pieces as his name too fades from the Pepperbox. He goes to Cassandra, apologizing for leaving her behind, as he thought she was dead. She is cold towards him, but tells him that while the Briarwoods used her as a posterchild for their rule, she fed intelligence to the resistance as best she could. The party search the house for anything useful, finding only a star chart indicating the solstice, which will begin in five days. To signal the resistance that they have completed their mission, Keyleth uses a spell to form the de Rolo crest in the clouds above Whitestone, which gives hope to the townsfolk and angers Delilah Brairwood. Desperate to defend her husband, she kills her steward and uses his body in a ritual to raise the dead of Whitestone to quell the insurgents.
The head cleric finds Pike convulsing in the temple, but says there is nothing they can do to help. Pike will either find her own way home, or she will be lost forever. In the ethereal plane, flames surround the gnomish cleric. The Everlight demands Pike tell be honest, not with her, but with herself. Pike tells her deity that she has left her path. Since she has joined her friends she has become violent and participates in depravity and knows it is wrong. She feels that is why the Everlight cut off her connection. The Everlight confronts this, and Pike realizes that she cut herself off from her goddess. The Everlight tells her that she doesn't have to choose between the Light or her friends, but whatever she decides to do with her life, she must be honest with her intentions.
