"Couples Therapy" (2021 release; 9 episodes of about 28 min. Each) is back with Season 2 of this TV documentary series. As Episode 1 opens, we are introduced to Michael and Micah, who have been married 11 years. They are in session with couples therapist Orna Guralnik, and they start telling their story. Micah in particular is restless: "I want to be pregnant yesterday!", and later "I feel so exhausted by this marriage." Next up are Tashira and Dru, who have been together two years, and have a baby (Tashira has another boy from a previous relationship). At this time we are less than 15 min. Into Episode 1.
Couple of comments: The original Showtime series "Couples Therapy" (not to be confused with the subpar series of the same name that aired on VH1 from 2012 t0 2015) aired in the Fall of 2019, and it was an immediate critical and ratings success and a new season 2 was greenlighted upon its conclusion. We now finally get that new season, and not a moment too soon. If you have seen Season 1, you know what you are in for: couple discuss their problems in an open and emotional way, and really leave it all out there. In season 2, we follow 3 couple: in addition to the two already mentioned, there is Gianni and Matthew, the latter being a recovering alcoholic and frankly a mess. Couples therapist Orna Guralnik returns from Season 1 and she consults once again with her clinical advisor to make sure she keep going in the right direction with these couples. I have seen the first 2 episodes of the new season, and ominously episode 2 ends with the coronavirus taking over New York (and the pandemic), which will present additional challenges for the couples and the therapist (among them, surely, the fact that future meetings will need to be done remotely). Can't wait to see how the remaining episodes will play out!
Season 2 of "Couples Therapy" premiered this weekend on Showtime with episodes 1 and 2, which now are available on Showtime On Demand, Amazon Instant Video and other streaming services. New episodes are Sunday evenings at 10 om Easter. If you saw Season 1 and liked it, you are in for a treat with this new season. If you are new to "Couples Therapy", welcome, welcome, welcome! (And be sure to binge on Season 1 at some point.) "Couples Therapy" is must-see TV, period.
