Macintosh is easily the most consistent character in this show. She doesn't have the constant drama that Jimmy deals with, and doesn't make silly mistakes like Sandy does every season. Tosh is at her best in this time around and I enjoyed every scene with her in it.
While overall it was a great season... much better than the last two IMHO (not saying they were bad!), my main criticism was the sub-plot with a character from season 4; it just fell flat for me because it makes Duncan out to be a complete sap, and that felt out of character. Also, and this may be accurate for Scottish law, but I highly doubt what went down with that would lead to an arrest. A suspension while an investigation ensues, sure absolutely, but not slapping on cuffs for dramatic effect.
Having said all that, I really wish the show would stop doing the season-long story arcs; it makes for too much filler and too many red herrings that forces the pacing to jump around unnaturally. Two, maybe three episodes to tell one story, that's fine, but not all six.
