Very low budget but I honestly liked it .
nicktusk-9559115 February 2024
This reminds me of a bee movie in the 80s lol. Some of the parts are very cheesy and you could tell it's a low production but I know the actor from the sopranos and that's the reason why I'm here. I respect him for his efforts in doing an independent project And it's on Amazon in Tubi TV. Which is pretty much the reason why I watch this show I'm not saying it sucks either. There's some cool stuff in here. I like the 80s stuff but it would've been better and today's age especially being compared to the Sopranos this this show doesn't even Register on the radar but like I said, I do like the DeMayo for doing this project and some of the actors who are big names obviously. I definitely think there is room for another great series like a Sopranos but obviously on the platform that William DeMayo did it, it would have to be a different thing entirely. This is based on Bensonhurst Brooklyn I believe where he grew up in the time of mafia wars, which in Brooklyn was abundant source of. Anyways, like I said, I don't wanna say this film sucks cause it doesn't but obviously if it was a major production company like HBO it would've been way better.

Wrong series

Should consider doing a Bowery boys remake. William demeo would make a great Sach and Joseph D onofrio Is perfect as slip Mahoney and Leo Rossi could play Louie Dumbrowsky.

The Sopranos It's NOT!
rickbell195 March 2021
I struggled though 3 episodes and couldn't do more. The acting is pathetic! Story lines terrible. Maybe the new season will be better. I will give it a try, but so far it's dismal!

Cheesy wanna be Sopranos show with bad acting
NickCAuthor15 August 2021
Being from Brooklyn, being around show business and acting I have to be honest. It's all bad. Where do I start? I looked at the movies credits and it shows Chelsey Vento did the music. Chelsey Vento is a terrible music producer. The music was form the 1990's and they say the show sis from the the 1980's. The overall arc is confusing and the though line is non-existent to the point that you could transpose most of the scenes, and it wouldn't really matter. The dialogue is heavy handed, forced, and devoid of any wit. Story lines start and go nowhere. It's like "The Room " of Mafia shows. Terrible acting by (especially) the main character who I understand wrote and produced it as well. Clichés abound. No storyline or running/theme/plot to speak of. I'm sure the viewers who are intimate and know the streets in Brooklyn will be happy to see their old haunts but for those of us that have never been there, it won't make up for what feels like an amateur production put on by first year cinema students. Who ever invested in this show must need a tax loss. From what I see none of willie demeo's movies ever make any money and they are all horrible. I would give william demeo a Golden Raspberry Award.

Stealing From David Chase
briancoffey-0358112 October 2021
Possibly the worst acting ever put onto film since Mariah Carey filmed "Glitter". What an embarassing disservice to Italian Americans in Brooklyn. They were all made to look like knuckle dragging idiots with limited vocabulary and the I. Q. of a doorknob. The acting was high school play calibre at best. My wife and I burst out laughing several times at this unintentional comedy. It garnered more laughs than Seinfeld's recent stand up special. This was a true slap in the face to hard working, educated Italians in this country. Acting was horrible. Props (except for the cars) were horrible. An entire one sided conversation with a Saint Anthony statue ? People that let out an audible "ugh" when they are shot ? "Blood" that looks like it came from a paintball gun ? And the script ... horrendous. I could go on and on, but I might vomit. Jeff Bezos should be ashamed of himself for allowing this monstrosity to air. Is David Chase going to sue william demeo for plagiarism? Who are the idiot sponosrs and investors?

I really wanted to like and support this, but no.
gorgonzatronic10 April 2021
As an Italian -American from South Brooklyn who is the same age as William DeMeo, I really want to support a local guy and wish him success, but this is not it. I also know how hard it is to conceive, write, direst, raise funds, cast, and get a movie produced -- so I give him a lot of credit. But everything here is really unwatchable: from the opening credits (the low-budget value is cringy) to the acting to the story line. Well directed in my opinion, so I give him credit for that, but really not much else of value here. I wish William luck in his future endeavors, but this is not the one to break his career.

A work in progress

I think this show has lots of potential. Give it a chance. Don't make a final judgement after four episodes. Nothing can match the Soprano's. I'm looking forward to season 2.

I Have Some Questions
johnmcnamarav5 October 2021
I was born in 1990 and have never stepped foot in Brooklyn snd I am 100% positive I could have delivered a better final product.

What was that? What did I just watch?

How were multiple people involved in the process of creating this series and not one of them thought this was a bad idea? Is William DeMeo actually proud of this? He can't possibly be that narcissistic can he? He thought he was the best choice to play the lead? Has he watched anything he's been in before?

How is there going to be a season 2? Who seriously watched that and wants more Gravesend?

Who rated this a 10? Why are they not locked up or at the very least some sort of watch list? Who compared this to The Sopranos? Is that a federal crime? Can David Chase sue for libel?

How did it end up on Amazon? How does William DeMeo keep putting films and shows out? Why are the same people in everything that he does? Do they owe him money?

Does Paul Ben-Victor need a paycheck that bad? What is Leo Rossi? Is that the guy from Instagram?

Is there anything more pathetic than being a wannabe gangster? Sadly, there is. Being a wannabe gangster actor. How is that a thing? Ask William DeMeo.

Very impressed
kcutie-8995814 May 2021
Watching this from start to finish, from the direction the series started to the way it left everyone hanging on in the church scene to wanting more, I have to say this was amazing. I've been a fan of many series but very few hold my attention to the point where I am intrigued by every character and story line. This one captivated it from the music to the cars to the plot of Benny and his crew and the way times were back then. I am looking forward to season 2 and job well done to all involved!

From foreign eyes; William DeMeo is one man army
bforv29 August 2023
Great series, well enjoyed. Great script, I like the fact that they didn't use just any imaginary story, I value they used the reality from times. Great music, great sites, great acting. I truly admire the fact that one man did all this beautiful work on his own and he did fantastic job, you don't find this in the industry, I truly admire it. I believe all the characters did great work. I can see an amazing future for Cris DeMeo also. And I love those cars!!! I suggest you watch the series, you will want more. I think William DeMeo and Cris DeMeo are notable for foreign screen also. Times will tell. Good luck.

Good mafioso series.
billgreencontracting25 July 2022
Considering that this guy pretty created this show totally by himself, I think he did a fantastic Job. I recommend reinvesting everything into this series. It can become as big as Sopranos. Very nice settings. Good story lines. I enjoy this series very much and eagerly anticipate new shows.

Actor Victor Colicchio has 30 years of bad experience
speechny27 July 2023
Gravesend Season 2 is worst than season 1. First I can see that the review written by Victor C is inflated and fake because actor Victoe Colicchio worked with William Demeo on a movie called Sarah Q. Victor also worked with Joe D'Onofrio and Paul Borghese who appeared in Sarah Q and Gravesend. Let's start with Amazon Prime. The reviews on Amazon can easily be inflated by friends and family. Gravesend season one receives so many bad reviews that the people who gave it a one star rating refuse to watch season two. Gravesend season two specifically charges for each episode so let's think about it for a second if people did not like season one, then the only people who are going to watch season two are family and friends. Second actor Victor Colicchio brags about having 30 years of experience but fails to disclose that he Victor Colicchio has 30 years of Bad experience since he never won an award, and none of his projects are known. Next Actor Victor Colicchio criticizes people who have one liners in their reviews not realizing that the reason they gave one-liners in there, one star reviews is because there's nothing much to say about Gravesend. Now for my review. Gravesend season 1 and 2 is a compilation of plagiarism because it's a vanity project that copies, both script, lines and scenes from shows such as the soprano and for movies like Scarface, Donnie Brasco, good fellas and more. The acting was horrible by William Demeo Who is also the screen, writer, producer and Director. One can only imagine that he holds onto all these roles so he can itemize a payment in the movies budget and pay himself for every role that he holds in these projects that he self produces. Next Gravesend does not capture how mobsters behaved in the 1980's. Having grown up in that area, I could tell you that there were a lot of hard-working people who are not connected with the mob and stayed away from all the neighborhood drama. With this in mind, the only positive reviews are coming from friends, family people connected with the show or people like Victor Colicchio, who worked with all those actors in the film Sarah Q. Just saying.

I don't understand the bad reviews
Ww555520 April 2024
I get it, the acting is a little suspect in places, and there doesn't appear to be a huge budget available for making this series. With all that stated, this is a very good show, interesting, and well worth the time to watch it. The best thing about all of this to me is the interesting characters and the interesting stories. I have no idea if it is authentic or not, because I'm not from Brooklyn, nor am I Italian. But as an outsider just observing it all, it's good enough. Maybe as the seasons keep going, there will be more money to shoot with? Again, if you are expecting a high budgeted Hollywood series, you will be disappointed. But if you see it for it is, it's definitely good enough.

Great Series!!!
eddiebenitez-993316 March 2024
Just finished watching the seasons im not italian but love to see italian mob series!! This was great i dont get why the negativity from new york viewers. The direction was good the art direction amazing good acting from everyone and it does make sense. Needs a little more storyline but to be independent ITS AMAZING!!! Keep more episodes coming! The cinematography is Great! By the looks of it Benny has a lot of haters maybe because they were not casted in this series so they come here and bash the show and give it a negative review but in reality the show is good and also i think the sound score can be a little better.

What a Joke!
meredithavitucci10 November 2021
I was interested in watching this for a few reasons. I'm from Brooklyn, I grew up around guys like this, it was filmed in my neighborhood, and I remember Brooklyn in the 80s. Just two episodes in, and I'm already frustrated.

1. If you are going to do a period piece, make it accurate. Punk was not immensely popular in 1986. Hairbands had taken over and grunge was ready to kick it's ass. Coney Island DID NOT look like that in the 80s, and neither did the bus stops.

2. The acting is TERRIBLE. I feel like I'm watching an AU Sopranos, where James Gandolfini looks like Quagmire, and it's a bad high school production of Goodfellas.

3. It makes Brooklyn Italians look like a bunch of thugs.

The only thing accurate about it is the racism that constantly spews out of the mouths of these "gangsters". Garbage like this makes me ashamed to be Italian.

A Disaster In Progress
Crusin86Street30 June 2023
Do not waste your time. Gravesend season 1 and 2 is horrible. Both scenes copy script lines and scenes from the sopranos as William demeo continues to copy from other movies. The acting is atrocious especially from Cristian Demeo who plays a 26 year old man who still lives at home with his dad and depends on his dad for work. Justina Valentine is vulgar. The script is the worst. This was a waste of money and time. The scenes were not professional and William demeo makes good actors look bad. This is a vanity project that copies from other shows and movies. This is a very bad show and the worst actors.

Worse Than COVID and Ebola
WeComeFromBrooklyn20 October 2021
This is possibly the worst gangster show/movie that's ever been created. I've seen better acting in an elementary school play and better action scenes for that matter. My Brooklyn born and raised wife was particularly appalled. I forced myself through the entirety of the first episode. I couldn't bring myself to watch the second. This is the type of show that copies from other shows. No originality. To even compare this show to the Sopranos is a crime against humanity. William demeo your F list acting career is over. I think the lead actor's narcissism and vanity is what allows the lead actor to ignore his bad acting. My goodness the guy has a picture of a Grand National over his bed. Not to mention the lead actor , william demeo, looked 20 years older then the guy playing his father.

Not Authentic....
clydepearlwillis12 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
As a Sicilian American, born in Queens to a Brooklyn father, I find four elements missing in this series:

1. Guys in the life do not disrespect the Catholic church. Benny constantly talks in the church, out loud - cursing. Virginia says she needs to go back to church and they show her taking communion before confession. She's not eligible while not in a state of grace. And of course, they have a gun fight in the church. WTF?

2. They overuse f bombs, and more. Guys in the life generally don't drop f bombs, at least while they are dating, saving rough language after a few years of marriage.

3. Gangsters have a great sense of humor. They laugh a lot. These acting rejects and reject of a script writer have these guys scowling and constantly angry. Trust me, there are high and lows but mafiosos have a blast most of the time. Yep, they can get angry but usually things go nicely.

4. Brooklyn accent....omg, talk about overboard, laying it on way too thick - even the actors/actresses who are from the city.

My pet peeve was DeMeo's nose was crazy long. It's hard not to focus on it, and maybe he could get a minor surgery. He really looked the part when he disguised himself as a hasidic Jewish guy, if ya catch my drift.

If you are from Wisconsin, Nebraska, Iowa, etc, you will like the series because if you haven't had contact with these type of people you will think this is authentic.

Was this a high school play?
meeshkadog9 July 2023
What on earth? How the hell did this ridiculous, cheaply-made catastrophe get on the screen. Did William DeMeo tell all the actors how to deliver their lines? Chopped up sentences, poorly executed imitation of Sopranos. (It's a sacrilege to even put them in the same review) but you can clearly see how DeMeo tried. By the way, he should not be acting, writing or directing. I was surprised to see Vinny Pastore in this disaster of a show. I only watched the whole thing to see Vic DiBitetto, one of my favorite comedians. He probably was the best actor with Vinny Pastore. So this boring high school play was extremely hard to watch. It's a mockery.
