Not Much To It
Yaeko Mizutani is married to army officer Den Ohinata, and they are very sweet together. She falls ill, and while Ohinata is adamant that she not be moved, once he is called to duty in Shanghai, his mother ships her back to her mother and father.
It's relative unadorned, although director Eizo Tanaka tries a few editing sequences to establish tone; an early one of champagne glasses clinking is fairly typical. This early sound film tries for its audience in being a sound film, with a lot of the issues of early sound films: set the camera up, let it run for a bit, then cut for the next set-up. Although the performers seem competent, there isn't much it it, and the company did not make another film. The writer, Iwao Mori, wound up at Toho, where he had a big success producing GODZILLA.
