The cold sea and the melancholic wind.
hnzyyh11 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
7/10 2022 Beijing Greek Film Festival. Eating and drinking men and women, the great desire of man, finding memories and reconstructing the past. Talassa Tavern, the cold sea and melancholic wind, the rich emotions and the warm fire. Paintings and movies go hand in hand, recording the warmth scattered in the corners of life.

What is impressive is not the food, but the meeting and parting of diners, the dance, embracing, kissing, touching and comforting of sad souls...

---

2022 Beijing Greek Film Festival, I participated in a film "marathon" and saw four Greek films in two days.

"Green Sea" is the cold sea and melancholy wind, "Her Job" is the strength and struggle of tired people under social turmoil, "All The Pretty Little Horses" is the unknown and lost path of the anxious colt living in the room, and "Little Men" is the warm, beautiful, calm and moving gorgeous and colorful youth.

The four films have different themes, but in tandem they present a kind of hazy soft poetry, which is perhaps the artistic temperament bred by the unique cultural soil of Greek cinema, with a hint of salty sea breeze smell lingering between the nose and breath.

A Search for Self in 'The Green Sea': A Poignant Tale of Lost Happiness
andrejsboka25 December 2023
"The Green Sea," a compelling Greek film, delves into the intricate journey of self-discovery and the elusive nature of happiness. The story revolves around a female protagonist who, in her pursuit of happiness, realizes that she was more content during her quest than when she believed she had found herself. This poignant revelation upon her return underscores the film's exploration of self and satisfaction.

Conversely, the male lead spends much of the film convinced that his happiness lies buried in the past. However, in a fleeting moment of clarity, he discovers that true happiness resides within the present, within oneself. But this realization comes too late, adding a layer of tragic irony to his journey.

At the heart of "The Green Sea" is the theme of searching for happiness. A critical moment occurs when the main character reads a book and comes across a line suggesting that unfulfilled, suppressed desires might someday manifest themselves. This moment encapsulates the film's central thesis: the complexity of understanding where one's happiness truly lies.

"The Green Sea" is a thought-provoking film that beautifully captures the human condition's complexities. It is a narrative that resonates deeply, reminding viewers that the pursuit of happiness is often more about the journey than the destination. This film is a reflective exploration of the paths we take in life, the choices we make, and the unexpected places where we find or lose our sense of joy.

Boring movie
lastmohican-117-32661329 March 2022
Most of the actors in the film play in all Greek films. It becomes boring to constantly see the same actors and in fact they almost always play a specific character !!! For the first 20 minutes it was as if I was watching a mix of other movies starring these actors. Aren't there really other talented people?

Profound, beautiful, melancholic

Loved this film - it is a slice of life far from glossy romantic comedies. The characters are complex and interesting and the plot is curiously realistic even if the premise is odd. I could almost the food, the raki and the cigarettes.

The setting is perfect - the Greece not shown in tourist brochures or on Instagram. I feel I know this place - even the taverna - and the people, with all their quirks.

The two negative reviews say more about the reviewers than the film (the critic of Greece is breathtaking in its arrogance and ignorance and tells you nothing about the film).

Definitely worth watching (though perhaps not if you only like action movies, thrillers or romcoms).

Very peculiar and intriguing

I like the movie very much. It's very quiet but full of inner power. Good actors and feels like the real person. It is an super intriguing story and with nice and special scenes. I kept wondering what would be the next, so definitely the opposite of being boring. Speaking of that, I didn't fully get the ending. Checked the internet but couldn't not find an explanation. The ending is a bit too sudden, the light is on and then the end. Are they together? Would love to see it and know it for certain. As family or as lovers? Don't know. I would definitely recommend it. Perhaps someone can even help to interpret the ending?

A breeze from the sea.

A great movie.

A beautiful story, excellent implementation.

Very strong characters.

The director created the ideal micro world for a miserable but sincere world. A crystal clear narrate of a world between flotsam and jetsam. The fatigue of working, achieving, hunting a dream and on the contrary the satisfaction of what we really are. The loneliness of a long distance runner and the isolation of success against solidarity and human relationships.

There is also some splendid acting. Both leading actors bring to life two solid characters. The rest of cast is also very good.

It's definitely not a Holywood movie, with fast paced plot and plot twists. This is pure art given straight forward.
