A far-fetched story with dramatic effects as hypnotic as a Duracell battery with 20% juice left.

There's nothing enjoyable here, nothing to dig claws into, but the hopeless sensation that one is spiraling down with the subject.

Big mistake with all the dirt and an unworthy addition.

Into the Dark - Current Occupant - I watched it for Barry Watson.
bviessman-340606 April 2021
Barry Watson is engaging in this installment of into the Dark. I think the storyline is great! You do wonder what is going on. I felt like it dragged on just a tad. I had to fast word through the last part. It starts to get predictable active of him being caught. The ending is satisfying. Give this one a go, be prepared to be in a loop for a bit.

A worthy installment to the horror series
ten-thousand-marbles5 March 2021
This movie is worth watching but it's not without flaws. The film relies to heavily on the visual aspect and the story suffers as a result. Also, the final escape scene is laughable and really takes away from the effectiveness of the whole film. There are obvious nods to One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and A Clockwork Orange. I'm not sure how I feel about these as they're blatant and add nothing to the story. It's hard to tell if they're done out of tribute or as hacky rip offs. On the positive side, the story is unique and entertaining, the acting is good and the overall production is better than expected.

Ultimately Disappointing
queeroid6 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Long story short: after physically healing from a mysterious significant injury, an amnesiac is forced into a psychiatric hospital to heal mentally as well. It doesn't happen.

I kept waiting for the twist to come, wherein he's _not_ the president (which he believes he is) but is in fact the man who killed the actual president. Instead, they went with the obvious non-twist wherein: nope, he's not the president _or_ an assassin, he really is just a crazy guy in an hospital.

So, the entire point of the story amounts to: psychiatric hospitals aren't fun. It had potential to be a lot more than it ended up being.

The Current Occupant

Warning: Spoilers
Like most episodes it ran for too long and could have accomplished its point in a lot less time.

Still, an intriguing premise and not as preachy politically as we expected given it was dealing with the Presidency.

Starts so strong and ends as a disappointment

The premise of this movie could have worked in cinema too, but if so it would need a better ending. Won't spoiler anything, but it wasted it's whole build-up. Tragic in a way.

Not bad.. not great
wesperkins25 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Like so many of this series this wasn't horrible, but it also wasn't great. Could have been done in a lot less time. It does a good job of keeping you guessing whether The guy is crazy or the president. There are some plot holes.. Why do they go to such elaborate means to treat him, yet never just take him outside or show him the news? He gets an awful lot of personal attention for just being a regular crazy. Why does the secretary of state continually call him the president? Why is there a guy in a suit, Always watching him if he isn't the president. Why Do they try and wipe his memory? Do the staff never take a day off? It's always the same people there. Just seems like there are easier ways to treat him than what they do. Not sure they would go to such elaborate means for a run of the mill politician, But also not sure they would send him to such a crazy hospital, If he was just a politician who lost his memory. But the movie kept me watching and entertained a little bit. It wasn't horrible and keeps you guessing at least.

Creepy thriller

Good performances in this creepy Thriller. Reminded me of an episode of black mirror. If you like this movie you may also like Sublime a film from 2007.

This is not a film
justahunch-7054930 August 2022
I only watched this because I was busy and it was the "next" "film" Hulu was going to show me unless I prevented it, but, again, I was busy. However, when I saw that it was questioning the possibility of the power of a President out of control I thought that it was more current and about the lunacy of you know who. Well, it had nothing to do with him or anything consequential and I then found out here that is was an episode of a four year old Hulu TV series I'd never heard of called Into the Dark, which is no long available and from this, I can see why. It's not terrible, but it's just of a Twilight Zone kind of thing offering nothing special. It mostly held my attention for its 85 minutes. Some of it was repetitively annoying, some of it was almost interesting. I also watched it due to the appearance of Barry Watson, who was in a film I liked long ago called When Strangers Appear. I would have preferred to have watched that.

Um What?
Hard to give a meaningful review without spoilers but it's safe to say that this one was one of the better of the series.

No real point Warning: Spoilers
The whole movie is pointless . It started off pretty good but the ending made the movie pointless. The movie is basically a guy that's in the crazy house and doesn't know who he is . He thinks he the president and the whole movie points in that direction , but at the end of the movie he's not. It has a lot pointless things that happen in the movie since it's basic off of him potentially being the president. The acting is pretty good but the story line is really a waste of time . I first thought it was going to be like the movie madhouse , that's actually a good movie . But ended up like other bad hulu movies . Save your time and skip out.

Very terrifying
adventuresntoto19 August 2020
This only re-infers why I believe psychiatric hospitals should be shut down. I don't know if the writers intend on showing the 'horror' being the delusion (which, as someone who experienced delusions, they are horrific and scary) but the treatment the staff and orderly inflicted on the patients was so terrifying. All the 'treatments' used to sedate and conform Henry was probably the most terrifying thing to witness. The violation he faced, the humility, toying with his delusion, it's really horrifying. I still don't understand the actual intent of the episode, but it surely does make me hate psychiatric wards. I think there are better ways to treat severe mentally ill people without that experience. Like prisons, it's inhumane.

Best of the series
jameszglenn13 September 2020
This film totally blew my mind. I've seen all of the Into the Dark series, and this was the best one by far. It's a serious horror film (unlike the others). The story was incredibly compelling and kept me captivated throughout. It creates a weird but fascinating tone unlike most of the movies that come out these days. It reminded me of a Stanley Kubrick film, and I thought about it for days afterwards. If you're in the mood for a cool head trip that fuses horror and politics, I'd strongly suggest watching it.

I enjoyed this one a lot, I thought they did a great job of keeping you guessing to the end if he was just crazy or not.

This was good.
atwiththestars21 July 2022
This was worthy of shows like the Twilight Zone & the Outer Limits. I didn't know where the story was going and that's what I want from scifi/horror. The production really mirrored what the characters were going through.
