Simple and complex at the same time

It is nice that there is no need to 'explain things' to be good... the kind of movie that plays with the imagination of the spectator and it will depend on spectator's unsterdanding about Brazil. It picture well some issues the country is facing right now with completely different types of characters saying that do not like to live or to be in it. The movie is very contemporany if you look the way technology is introduced, including a podcast which has a key role.

Even with cinema industry suffering attacks, it is possible to make art that at least try to break the status quo.

Could have been much better

This is an innovative way to develop a murder mistery thriller, and Irandhir Costa, being certainly one of the most skilled and versatile actors in Brazil, is able to give his character the depth and atmosphere is has in the script. However, several parallel issues, instead of simply enriching the script, simply open paths which lead nowhere and do not compose a whole together. The son and daughter and their carnival orgy partners have a lot of new generation freedom speeches, which do not really add anything to the story itself, and so are their recurrently naked bodies. The past of Irandhir Costa's character and his relationship with the children and ex wife are undevelopped, although seemed at some moment to be something that would be crucial to the development of the plot. The solution for the crime has been found in a hurry, being a too small part of the film. Any metaphorical contrast between the party (carnival, sex, joy) and the violent death, if intended, has not been successfully made by Hilton Lacerda. By the way, I hated those boring monologues by a narrator in different moments of the movie. Anyway, it is an interesting movie which make obvious director's skills. It simply did not reach its own high potential, in my opinion.
