In a casual chat with Shaheen Raaj in a Bollywoodian Bash the traditionally conservative turned hep and peppy Gujju lass Ayesha Takia Azmi muses about her taste for music routing more deeply for the Indian milieu rather than having a pensive ear for Western fare. Time to lend your musical ears in solitude!

Recognize this lad from the recent fiasco Paathshaala? We wouldn’t blame you if you don’t. Former child artist, Sunny Singh, for whom this movie was supposed to be a launch vehicle as a solo lead, found that his character of Vicky barely had any screen time.
Sunny, who is remembered for his roles in the Shah Rukh Khan starrer English Babu Desi Mem and the popular tele-serial Dekh Bhai Dekh, was supposed to be the lead in Paathshaala (as promised by his childhood friend, producer Ahmed Khan) with Shahid Kapoor playing a guest role. However, he soon found his role reduced to a side-kick with Shahid having more screen time. Learning a lesson, he has now taken care to see that this bitter experience is not repeated. Sunny had earlier signed a 3-film deal with Ahmed Khan but has now decided to break the contract and instead do Priyadarshan’s next.

Three flops, Dil Bole Hadippa, Chance Pe Dance and Paathshaala, and people were quick to dismiss Shahid Kapoor's latest film Badmaash Company. True there was not much hype for the movie despite some very good publicity (Seemingly Yash Raj have learnt from their previous mistakes of keeping their films under wraps!), and there were many reasons for that. First of all Yash Raj are no longer a force to reckon with, as they were in the past. Secondly the director Parmeet Sethi is...

After Housefull opened to an excellent start last week, it was the turn of Badmaash Company to open to a heartening start at the box-office. Shahid Kapoor's last major release Chance Pe Dance (not counting Paathshaala) had fetched a below average start, so it was imperative that Badmaash Company fetch a good start at the ticket window. The opening numbers of Badmaash Company were an impressive 80% to 90% at places, while at places it ranged from 45% to 75%, which only improved towards the evening shows.
Badmaash Company grossed a decent 13.50 crore nett over its first weekend. The film did around 5 crore nett in Mumbai and around 3 crore nett in Delhi/Up. East Punjab added another 1 crore nett approx. The business on saturday and Sunday was better than Friday but jump was not huge.
The first week is looking to finish in the 19-21 crore nett depending on the how well the weekdays perform.

May 07, 2010: Shahid Kapoor’s Badmaash Company has arrived this week and a lot is being said and heard about this Yash Raj film being an all important release for the Kaminey star. Let’s pause for a second and re-look at the situation. Should one really be making a big deal about the failure of Paathshaala? Not really, because this was a two year old release which just happened to arrive now as an end of Shahid’s backlog. Moreover, the film isn’t quite a disaster as it is being made out to be and would eventually just about manage to be a coverage affair taking into account mediums other than.

Is Badmaash Company a film on scam jobs?
At the face of it, it may seem to be a film on a con job scam, where the protagonists do wrong things in the right way, but in effect it is actually a journey of four different friends. It is about their coming of age, their relationship, their understanding of life etc. A lot happen to them fast and the impact it has on their lives forms the crux of the subject. It is a film which has an emotional.

Those averse to Ricky Gervais's "white-man overbite" will see surprisingly little of it in his second co-directed movie. An extremely choosy actor Shahid Kapoor after giving big hits like Vivaah, Jab We Met and Kaminey has been giving duds like Dil Bole Hadippa (Yash Raj Films), Chance Pe Dance (Utv) and an equally bad follow up.

The film is low key, restrained and often too laid back. Yet it works because it is intensely topical and has an uncluttered charm to it. Set in the precincts of an old world school, it traces the battle of a handful of sincere and committed teachers and students against a newage management that wants to transform the centre of education into a commercial venture.
