Colourful and poignant

"I'm nobody" Carmen Rupe speaks in this short film - but this film celebrates her and takes a glimpse at 1970s reality for this Maori transgender woman. Producer Mika combines drama, music and comedy plus sparkle to provide a small window into Carmens life - we await a full feature film. Well worth seeing and 'experiencing'

Blast from the past

GURL is an amazing 20 minute short film that was a true blast from the past taking you back to the 1970s. This short film is based off true events in the life of Carmen Rupe, the famous Maori Transgender women. We saw what it was like to walk in her shoes one evening as a sex worker on K road and a love affair between herself and a famous All Black which in real life will be forever unknown. Director Mika X outdid himself with not just an amazing short film but spectacular small details from cigarette lighters, to clothes and even cars. All the music in the film were original pieces that Mika created himself along side Penny Dodd, Mark Dennison and Alan Jansson. Overall the Short film brought Comedy, Drama, Fantasy and Music which was such a joy to watch.
