Rocking it out
My love for "Dude, We're Getting the Band Back Together" means more to me than nostalgic value. Something that may be thought by some when hearing that it was one of my first 'Phineas and Ferb' episodes and one of the episodes that made me fall in love with the show. Just loved that it is music-related, which immediately connected with me with music being such a huge part of my life, while having all of the things that makes the show so great.
Do have to agree with everybody that acclaimed "Dude, We're Getting the Band Back Together". It is not at all hard to see why it is widely considered a fan favourite, even Dan Povenmire holds it in very high regard, and if anybody says that it is one of their favourite 'Phineas and Ferb' episodes they can be assured that it is one of mine as well. Some consider it the show's best episode, to me it is absolutely a very strong contender. Everything here in "Dude, We're Getting the Band Back Together" is brilliant and what 'Phineas and Ferb' is all about. It has much more to it than its Emmy-nominated song "Ain't Got Rhythm".
The animation is great as usual. Full of rich vibrant colour and the attention to detail in the backgrounds showed a lot of care and effort, this is all especially apparent at the end. The music has been widely lauded among fans and for very good reason, it is truly amazing with some of the best music for any 'Phineas and Ferb' episode (and the show always hit when it came to its music). The absolute triumph that is "Ain't Got Rhythm", extremely catchy with very clever lyrics, deserved its Emmy nomination (the show's second in the category). "Music Makes Us Better" is truly inspiring.
Absolutely loved the writing, it is typically smart while also striking the right balance of hilarious humour and heart-warming emotion. It's always an immensely entertaining episode while also having a lot of heart. Story-wise, "Dude, We're Getting the Band Back Together" stands out. Not just for that it is more emotionally complex than most but it is also different to usual. Really appreciated seeing more development for Linda and Lawrence, although their story is not an original one it is full of energy and is emotionally investable, and the Perry and Doofenschmirtz subplot is also different in that Doofenschmirtz actually has good intentions this time.
Cannot not mention the ending, which is incredibly heart-warming and touching. All the characters are incredibly well written and easy to connect with. No issues to be had with the voice acting all round either.
In conclusion, brilliant and a show high point. 10/10
