Better Than Some Movies

Judgement Day and Judgement Day: Part 2 were originally aired one after the other on CBS as the Season 5 finale. They are my favorite NCIS episodes, starting from the pilot, Yankee White, S1, Ep1, all the way to the beginning of Season 11 when Cote de Pablo as Ziva David exited stage left. I like these episodes so much that every few years I watch them again as I just did on Netflix. In addition to reminding me of The X-Files, my favorite TV series of all time, I love everything about these episodes including the story, the music, the locations, the casting (The story could not have been told as well without Muse Watson as Michael Franks, an excellent character actor.), the production values, the cinematography, post-production, the editing, and the writing. The dialog between Michael Weatherly's Anthony DiNozzo and de Pablo's David as well as Lauren Holly's Jenny Shepard and Watson's Franks is snappy, concise, believable, and, when it comes to listening to their conversations, like music to my ears. After de Pablo departed NCIS I stopped watching the series. It's just not the same without her. "Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end," but sadly for this former NCIS fan they did. To de Pablo and Holly I say, best of luck in all your future endeavors. Your acting is sorely missed. Your characters are gone, but not forgotten.

This is great television!

Warning: Spoilers
I found NCIS late - 6 years into its run - while watching reruns on cable. It is not the perfect way to watch a show that connects episodes together as sometime the episodes are out of sequence and seasons are mixed with other seasons.

With that said, Judgement Day episodes 1 and 2 were run back to back and are among the most enjoyable episodes of any series I have ever watched. I had watched long enough to know all the characters at this point so I was invested in their relationships and loved their idiosyncrasies.

So to see the death of a major character, the details related to that death (and the possible reasons for this character putting themselves into this situation) and the richness of the characters surrounding the storyline was just fascinating to watch. The writing is spare and clean. The emotions and reactions to the twists and turns in these episodes are genuinely felt.

Gibbs discovery that a person close to him in NCIS has done something against all he believes followed by the death mentioned above followed by the grieving (or not in Gibb's case) followed by the ending that seems to bring our group of characters to dissolution makes you want to come back for more.

Jenny had too many skeletons
CrimeDrama12 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Good riddance. I may be on an island here but I was tired of Jenny's personal missions and maybe she really did kill the arms dealer. Tony's secret undercover assignment only happened because of Jenny's obsession. Plus, it was pointless because Jeanne knew nothing about her father's business. I call it conduct unbecoming the NCIS Director position. This two-part episode is all about the past but most of the best episodes are current investigations. The writers on all crime dramas tend to get cute too often. It has to make sense to the viewers. Always.
