Formulaic Adam & Eve adventure porn, but effective
lor_2 August 2016
Warning: Spoilers
The epic-length "Eden" hearkens back to early Adam & Eve successes portraying romance in exotic settings around the world. Unfortunately hack director Daniel Dakota (far more comfortable with gonzo crap) keeps this from being a classic through sheer lack of any imagination or style.

So we get the romantic, beautiful visuals shot on location in Hawaii, and a plethora of lengthy humping scenes, 10 in fact, way beyond the call of duty. Would it have killed the honchos at A&E, headquartered in North Carolina, to have sent a minion around the world to the set, seen that DD was doing a poor job, canned the clown and had a real director make a real movie?

Contract superstars Carmen Luvana and Ava Rose do a fine job in the lead roles, with Dakota's script essentially a carbon copy of TV's "Fantasy Island" but watered down to utter blandness. Xavier Towers, in non-sex role, is the remote island's host, welcoming five lucky adventurers out of a ton of annual candidates to enjoy the away-from-it-all idyllic retreat for a week. Lack of conflict or events makes for a dull stay, especially at 3-1/2 hours for the Adam & Eve loyalist out in video land.

So we watch various configurations of the cast hump in the open air against scenic backdrops of surf and lush flora. Perhaps the hit Tera Patrick series for Digital Playground "Island Fever" is the model. Bree Olson is uninhibited with anal action, guest star Courtney Cummz offers relief from the parade of fake big tits and exotic Evan/Angel Valentine is quite sexy in a role originated by Herve Villechaize (thank God he didn't show up).

The dialog all sounds post-synced and remote, and our host Xavier never emerges with any sort of personality, not threatening, not benevolent, just there for exposition. Dakota's biggest mistake is abandoning all set-up scenes and dialog for the latter part of the film, just reverting to wall-to-wall sex mode rather disconcertingly.

I checked the spoiler box because the final reel demands comment. Tommy Gunn, as the loose cannon in the motley cast, has been confined to quarters after a nothing skirmish with a threatening native. He decides to wander to the "forbidden" Eastern part of the island and after 3-1/2 hours we get about 2 seconds of a CGI dinosaur confronting Gunn. "The End".

Not a very satisfying ending to a romantic idyll, and evidence of Dakota's lack of pride in his work.

Adam & Eve belatedly returned to the format with an Allie Haze feature shot in Brazil "Adventures in Eden", which I will be reviewing anon.
