With all due respect to “America’s Got Talent,” summer is not exactly the time when Nielsen ratings threaten to fall off the charts — at least, not the top of the charts. And when it comes to new series, a summer slot isn’t generally a vote of confidence from the network.
Due to coronavirus-forced production shutdowns, Summer 2020 should be an especially soft season. Click through our gallery to see how each freshman show’s debut on broadcast television fared in total viewers.

NBC’s Blindspot wrapped up its storyline for its fifth and final season Thursday, with the series finale matching a season-best 0.3 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic and 1.70 million viewers.
The episode, the 11th of the season, was shot and completed just before the Covid-19 shutdown of film and TV production. Last night’s finale that revealed the fate of Jaimie Alexander’s Jane Doe also grew a tenth over last week’s penultimate episode, making it on par with last year’s season-ender.
The mystery drama was one of only three originals on the Big 4 and the CW last night, joined by the season finale of Fox’s Celebrity Watch Party, steady in the demo with last week and ticking up in viewers, and CW’s Killer Camp, even and slightly off in viewers compared with its premiere last week.

“Blindspot” aired the final episode of its impressive five-season run last night to unspectacular numbers. Fox’s “Celebrity Watch Party” also failed it impress with its finale.
The last ever edition of “Blindspot” scored a 0.3 rating among adults 18-49, which does represent a slight tick up from the penultimate episode. However, only 1.7 million viewers tuned in to see how Sullivan Stapleton and company’s story would end, which is inn fact slightly down in last week, and represents a viewership low for its fifth and final season. Preceding the finale was a replay of “Ellen’s Game of Games,” which scored a 0.4 rating and 2.7 million viewers. A “Law & Order: Svu” replay closed off the night for NBC with a 0.2 rating and 1.8 million viewers.
Meanwhile on Fox, the season 1 curtain call for “Celebrity Watch Party” came in at a 0.3 rating and 1.4 million total viewers, which is almost exactly even on the previous episode on both metrics.

Univision’s La Rosa de Guadalupe was Thursday’s top-rated show in primetime among adults 18-49 (Live+Same Day), scoring a 0.6 rating in the demo, along with 1.63 million viewers. It helped the Spanish-language network tie with ABC for the overall win in 18-49 on a night that also included NBC’s 30 Rock special and the season finale of Fox’s Labor of Love.
ABC’s game-show trio all suffered slips last night, with Holey Moley and To Tell the Truth both off a tenth and newcomer Don’t dipping two-tenths after it was last week’s top-rated show.
Univision’s night also included Médicos and a Chivas-Club America soccer game.
NBC aired its one-hour 30 Rock: A One-Time Special, which returned the cast from Tina Fey’s acclaimed sitcom that ran on the network from 2016-2013 to promote the launch of new NBCUniversal streamer Peacock.

NBC aired its hour-long reunion special “episode” on Thursday night to un-spectacular numbers.
The special, which doubled as a lengthy ad for NBCUniversal and its new streaming service, Peacock, averaged a 0.4 rating among adults 18-49 and only 2.5 million viewers across its runtime. It’s of course worth nothing that multiple NBC affiliates refused to air the special due to its promotional nature, which likely contributed at least in part to those small numbers, and that the special will probably generate the bulk of its viewership on Peacock when it launches there. The special will also air tonight across a bevy of NBCU networks.
In fact, “30 Rock” was beaten in the 8 p.m. time slot by a new episode of ABC’s “Holey Moley,” which scored a 0.5 rating and 3.4 million total viewers. “Don’t,” the new game show from Ryan Reynolds and Adam Scott, followed that up with the same rating and 2.7 million total viewers.

The CBS series “Broke” aired its last ever episode on the network to its lowest numbers to date.
The Pauley Perrette, Jaime Camil and Natasha Leggero signed off with a 0.4 rating among adults 18-49 and 3.6 million viewers. That represents a series low for the comedy in both metrics. For comparison, the series premiere back in April scored a 0.9 rating and drew 7.1 million viewers. “Broke” was the only original episode to air on CBS on Thursday night, as replays of “Young Sheldon” and “Mom” led the way at a 0.6 and 4.8 million viewers, and a 0.5 and 3.7 million pairs of eyeballs respectively. A replay of “The Unicorn” scored a 0.4 and 3.4 million viewers, while a “S.W.A.T.” rerun rounded things off with a 0.3 and 2.6 million viewers.
“Council of Dads,” which was just canceled by the network after only one season, ticked up week-to-week to a 0.4 rating and 3 million total viewers, its largest audience since the premiere.

Kevin Hart is continuing to put his time at home in quarantine to use.
The comedian is set to host and executive produce a virtual special for E! which will see four celebrity couples go head to head in a series of “outrageous at-home challenges.”
Titled “Celebrity Game Face,” the special features Hart and his wife Eniko, along with couples Terry and Rebecca Crews, Sarah Hyland and her fiancé Wells Adams, and Joel and Sarah McHale.
The Harts will lead the teams through a game night packed with fun, ridiculous physical challenges that viewers can play along with at home.
Some of the challenges involved the couples showing off their teen dance moves in a “tik talk” challenge, feeding each other a messy meal with a twist, attempting to interpret what their partners are saying while their mouths are full, and racing through their homes to find unexpected items to solve riddles.

ABC scored a Thursday win in ratings and total viewers with the Season 2 premiere of “Holey Moley,” a new episode of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” and the return of “To Tell the Truth,” according to preliminary data from Nielsen.
Meanwhile, Fox’s debut of reality dating series “Labor of Love,” which follows “Bachelor” alum Kristy Katzmann on her hunt for her perfect man/sperm donor, combined with weak performer “Celebrity Watch Party” to land the broadcaster in a tie with Spanish-language network Telemundo for fifth place in the key demo.
