Add Showtime’s On Becoming a God in Central Florida to the list of scripted series that have been canceled because of the pandemic.
The ViacomCBS-owned premium cable network has reversed course on doing a second season of the Kirsten Dunst dark comedy, citing scheduling issues relating to the novel coronavirus.

Despite having the Oscar-winning Reversal of Fortune made from his book of the same name, it seems Alan Dershowitz this week had to have the difference between fact and fiction painstakingly explained to him by one of ViacomCBS’ top lawyers over Jeffrey Epstein.
“If we understand your letter correctly, you are complaining about a line spoken by a fictional character, in an episode of the fictional series The Good Fight,” wrote the company’s Jonathan Anschell to Dershowitz’s attorney Imran Ansari on July 28 (read it here).
The company’s response comes after a letter sent by Ansari to seemingly everyone associated with the production of The Good Fight — including creators Robert and Michelle King and producers Scott Free — alleged that the line in the Fred Murphy-directed and Laura Marks-penned season finale that aired May 28 was defamatory and could lead to further legal action.

Exclusive: Damián Alcázar and Tamara Vallarta (Paquita la del Barrio) are heading the cast of upcoming original drama Tijuana, a co-production of Netflix and Univision-owned Story House Entertainment.
The show is billed as an unvarnished look at what journalists in Mexico face every day in the pursuit of the truth. As with other series in the companies’ long-term partnership, Tijuana will premiere in the U.S. on Univision later this year, followed by its global rollout on Netflix.
Alcázar plays Antonio Borja, co-founder and director of the renowned newspaper Frente Tijuana, and Vallarta plays Gabriela Cisneros, an idealistic young reporter fighting her way into his newsroom.
When the gubernatorial front-runner is shot in the street, the reporters of Frente Tijuana race to cover the story, but the facts they uncover run much deeper than the assassination—insidious corruption has been allowed to grow in the shadows.

Revenge thriller comes to Blu-ray from Scream Factory. It would be easy to over think a film like Bound To Vengeance, to politicize it and to lard it in with the glut of rape-revenge horror films that academics have slavishly dissected and, ultimately, given more credence to than most of them warrant. The typical rape-revenge…

Bound to Vengeance doesnt break any new ground. If youre perusing a site like Bhm youve probably seen quite a few films that operate under a very similar (even identicle) premise. But Jos Manuel Cravioto is careful to at least deliver a polished and engaging piece of work that will no doubt open more doors in the future. There are a number of redeemable qualities within the production and in truth had Cravioto approached a topic that presents more in the way of originality but still nailed the execution as he has here hed have a picture that borders on genuinely masterful. As it stands youre not going to lose anything by seeking out Bound to Vengeance. Its an entertaining picture that unnerves in moments and does offer two...

Park City - Sundance saw the debut of not one but two films that both fit the broad definition of a "horror film," each with decidedly strong ideas about gender politics, but only one of the two seems to me to be genuinely worthwhile. Eli Roth has become defined largely by the excesses of his films, and I'm sure that's perfectly fine with him. Like many life-long gorehounds, when finally given a chance to make his own films, he happily ladled on buckets of blood. What I found interesting about Eli's films is how he seemed to be working one theme repeatedly, constantly exploring the fear that people have of the unknown in the world around them. "Cabin Fever," "Hostel," "Hostel II," and "The Green Inferno" all feature characters leaving their homes, the places where they are comfortable, and heading out to some corner of the world where they are...

There’s some misguided notion floating around out there that rape revenge flicks are in some way feminist. That’s not to say that one can’t be feminist, but it must tread the most delicate of lines and be incredibly smart to pull that off. “Reversal” is not that film. It tries very hard to present its protagonist as a badass victim-turned-heroine, but it is not in the least bit cool or fun or awesome. It’s just further victimization and victim-blaming. And the rub is that the movie isn’t even scary or entertaining enough to justify being a horror movie. It’s just a really violent film about the horrors of sex-trafficking, and there are plenty of news articles I can read to be horrified by that particular topic. Eve (Really? Going that obvious with the metaphors, huh?), played by the actually rather good Tina Ivlev, is...

Director J.M Cravioto has produced a low-budget thriller aimed at making its leading woman hellbent on revenge and restitution. Reversal is a blood-fueled grindhouse revenge film that starts off with all the right elements, but, unfortunately, quickly loses its momentum and ended in a way that that left me thinking, "Wtf?"
Chained to a wall and barely alive, Eve (Tina Ivlev) quietly waits for her brooding and malevolent kidnapper Phil (Richard Tyson) to walk into the room. With quick thinking and a massive brick, this rambunctious shitstorm of a situation begins.
Starting in a way that you would personally want most disturbing kidnapping genre movies to end, Eve takes hold of a horrible situation and quickly reverses the tides, going from helpless captive to a gun-toting blonde chick on a rampage! Failing in an attempt to escape the situation, she comes across pictures of other girls in similar circumstances.

It seems that every year there is at least one film that makes you wonder, “what got passed over in favor of this film?” It’s simple logic that not every film at Sundance is going to change lives and trailblaze filmmaking, but sometimes you get a film that is just awful. You just sit there wondering – how did this get into the festival, and were other entries really so bad that this got in over them? That film of this year is Reversal.
The logline of José Manuel Cravioto’s film is intriguing on it’s own, following a young woman (Tina Ivlev) who escapes her captor (Richard Tyson) only to force him to lead her to where other girls are being held captive to free them. It gives the title of the film a certain amount of cleverness,...

Representing Latin American, U.S. Latino, and non-Latino artists who explore multicultural relationships from singular perspectives, the films at this year's Sundance Film Festival include an array of stories that showcase the diverse creative voices that exist within the Latino filmmaking community.
This list includes both films that have been created fully or partially by Latin American or U.S. Latino filmmakers, as well as those that deal with themes and ideas relevant to the Latino experience in or outside the Unites States, even if these were not created by Latino artists. The increasing interest in these stories testifies to how rapidly Latinos are becoming constant and strong voices in all areas of the film industry.
In order to highlight as many of these talented creators and films as possible, we’ve created a list that includes all the films at the festival that are helmed by or that incorporate Latino talent and those that focus on a specific aspect pertinent to the Latino community. Some are obvious standouts like Argentina's acclaimed dark comedy "Wild Tales" or Colombia's "Liveforever" from Carlos Moreno.
Then there are those who at first sight might not fit the parameters of what one could think is a Latino film. This is the case of films like Eli Roth's "Knock Knock," which is an English-language horror film whose co-writers, producers, and part of the cast are originally from Chile. There is also " Aloft," a drama in the Spotlight section, which is set between Canada and Minnesota and stars Jennifer Connelly. It was written and directed by Academy Award nominated Peruvian filmmaker Claudia Llosa.
The third case includes those films that deal with subjects that have Latino elements or that explore diversity in the U.S in some way. Examples of these are "The Strongest Man" from Kenny Riches, a film narrated in Spanish by its protagonist "Beef," a charming, yet lost Cuban-American man in Miami; or "Cartel Land" by Matthew Heineman, which focuses on the violence shared between Mexico and U.S due to the drug-fueled chaos that afflicts the region. On a lighter note, there are films like “City of Gold” by Laura Gabbert, in which Los Angeles is seen through its ethnic food and local idiosyncrasies.
In an effort to give exposure to those films in the program that don’t get as much attention, the list below starts with the Shorts Programs and ends with the Dramatic Premieres. Each title is linked to its page on the Sundance website where screening times and locations can be found. Regardless of what films you watch at the festival, it is likely that your eyes will be expose to the work of some amazingly talented Latino filmmaker, writer or actor, or those who appreciate our stories as much as we do.

99 Homes
Following yesterday’s announcement of the 2015 Sundance Film Festival’s In-Competition films, the festival has released its lineup of Spotlight, Park City At Midnight and New Frontier Films.
Among the lineup is 99 Homes, Ramin Bahrani’s Middle-America drama on foreclosures starring Michael Shannon and Andrew Garfield. The film premiered at Toronto and Venice earlier this year and will finally get a release early in 2015. Joining it are the British Independent Film Award-nominated ’71, and the much hyped Eden from Mia Hansen-Løve and Girlhood from Céline Sciamma.

Also included in this announcement is a lineup of New Frontier art installations that will be visible across Park City, including one called Way to Go by artist Vincent Morisset, a big collaborator with Arcade Fire.

It’s less than two months until the streets and theaters of Park City are going to be packed with filmmakers, film fans and buyers attending the 2015 Sundance Film Festival from January 22 to February 1. Yesterday the Robert Redford-founded fest announced its U.S. and World Cinema dramatic and documentary competition selections along with the pics in its Next section. Today, with some Andrew Garfield, Keanu Reeves, Greta Gerwig, Kevin Bacon and Charlotte Rampling starrers among them, Sundance revealed its non-competitive Spotlight and Park City At Midnight slates along with the films and installations of the New Frontier category - see the full list below.
Like yesterday’s slate announcements there are some big, big screen names appearing at Sundance this year. Garfield, who has that other gig as certain webslinger, is in the Ramin Bahrani-directed 99 Homes with Michael Shannon and Laura Dern. Having played at Tiff and Venice,...

Each year, the midnight shift at Sundance belongs to me, and that's the way I like it. I've had some of my most memorable experiences at the festival happen as part of the midnight screenings, and I look forward to this announcement every year. I'm surprised to see "It Follows" there. That's been playing festivals since Cannes, and while it's good, I wouldn't expect to see Sundance use one of the slots for a film that's been seen as much as this one has already. The hottest ticket will most likely be "Knock Knock," with Eli Roth directing Keanu Reeves. I like that Eli has fallen in with Nicolas Lopez and Guillermo Amoedo as his new constant collaborators, and this one sounds like it could be nasty fun, which is Eli's sweet spot. I'm excited about the Kevin Bacon movie, which sounds like a darker, actual-real-world-repercussions version of "Let's Be Cops,...

Topher Grace’s backstage musical comedy One Shot is getting a Broadway vet in Taye Diggs. The singer-actor has joined the cast of the indie film, about a failed star turned stage manager (Grace) who must wrangle the eccentric cast and crew of a new production to save the show’s opening night. Isaac Rentz is directing from a script by Gerry De Leon and Greg Lisi; Grace, who’s currently in theaters in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, is also producing.
Diggs will play Malcolm, a flamboyant member of the production. Diggs of course got his start originating the character of Benny in 1996′s Tony-winning Rent, a role he reprised in 2005 when the musical was adapted into a film by Sony and Chris Columbus. By then he was well into a film and TV career with How Stella Got Her Groove Back, The Wood, The Best Man, and a run...

There’s also a plan to transfer popular web series Yes Boss! and Miss Puff, Tia says. Alibaba is the most recent Chinese company to add film production to its portfolio.
